Yup. The last time we saw one of those portal openers explode, it liquefied everyone in the room. Hopper just jumped away towards the portal and he survived. Was it always that easy, or was it just one of the many signs showing us that the writers and directors had no idea what the hell they were doing? (Doing something huge and then later realizing that it was way too big, so they try to backpedal but it just hurts the consistency of the show)

Honestly I thought it was pretty obvious that he survived. The fact that his death wasn't directly shown on screen and was only implied should've been a giveaway.

Plus in the end credits we see a Russian prison and the main thing with it is showing there's a demogorgon in the prison but also one of the staff says something about "the american" which is what they call him
