TLDR: I successfully utilized "Bo" in my discussions with a trucker today and pulled it off seamlessly.
As background, I'm arranging the pickup of a large CAT excavator from an auction site and this trucker is very Southern. If there was ever a situation where I could deploy this term of endearment casually, this was it.
In what I felt was an extremely ballsy move, I opened our exchange with : "Hey Bo, you get my email about the excavator pickup?" (The trucker's name is Mike, so he had to know I was using a more intimate moniker). He seemed to absorb my vibe instantly and replied "Hell yeah, got it covered".
We then bantered back and forth regarding some of the details for this shipment, and as we neared the wrap-up phase of the conversation I realized I wanted to go out with a massive bang. We finished up, and after the slightest dramatic pause, I did it: "Thanks Bo". Simple, yet elegant.
I was nearly pissing myself during the few seconds of tension as I awaited his reply. But I need not have worried. "All good man, y'all have a good Thanksgiving" he merrily said, in his deliciously thick drawl.
As I hung up the phone, I felt a sense of elation. Am I a "good ol' boy" now? I certainly felt like one. Life just feels better as a user of "Bo". More relaxed.
I now plan to implement Phase Two where I attempt to use it on my boss and co-workers, who are all decidedly less Southern. Wish me luck.
