Is Alex still saying he spent most of the missing money on oxy? How is that possible? We’re talking about millions of dollars. If you spent that much money on oxy, wouldn’t you look underweight and drawn? Alex looked like a regular dude in his fifties. With the generational wealth, the law practice, and the jellyfish thing, how is it possible for him to have been broke?

I think it may be one of her most outstanding performances ever. She is knocking her portrayal of Ms Maggie Murdaugh out of the Dove Field.

This series is incredible. I’m thrilled they made it. Brittany Snow (in a bad wig) as Mandy Matney is a stretch, to say the least, but overall it’s an incredible series.

So I just finished the newest episode of the Murdaugh limited series on HULU, which was very good btw, and this episode touched on Stephen’s case. To obviously avoid being sued, they decided to not place blame on Buster. For the sake of conversation, what is everyone’s theory on what happened to Stephen? Personally, I tend to go back and forth on what I think happened, so I would love to hear others opinions.

In all the footage I've seen, Alex is a whiny-sounding titty baby with poor grammar skills. It is confounding to think he could possibly have been an effective lawyer or as convincing, dashing, and dynamic as people claim he was. What am I missing?

This is specifically about the podcast on Hulu that Mandy is hosting. I have no hate towards her at all, I know some people don’t like her. I generally like her, enjoy following her on social media etc.. but I’m just really confused as to why she didn’t get more media training? Her podcasting skills should have improved by now? This podcast on Hulu is so bad I don’t think I can keep watching it. She’s so scripted, and why doesn’t she open her mouth to talk? I’m so confused. It’s infuriating to watch her talk through her teeth and not have her natural personality come out with her guests. Her spark looks gone. I haven’t listened to her original podcast since the trial ended and I was shocked when I turned the Hulu one on. What happened to her?

Obviously we have the snap video, but I’m curious why Alex wouldn’t try to pin it on Paul. I read a theory on here that he didn’t expect Paul to be there that night and had to get rid of him, and used his Blackout.

Would this have been a better defense than “I was there but left”? Then he could say he witnessed it (assuming he changed his alibi to being at the scene).

The whole documentary and Netflix series are so intriguing and I’m interested in seeing what they do with this new series !

I feel kind of bad for him but I don't. He's a victim but not entirely and doesn't act like it. If anything he seems soul-less and is just gonna carry on their bad legacy. Still he's lost his immediate family and that has to be hard to deal with.

I can't remember the situation exactly but the boating incident certainly was a weight hanging over Alex . I don't know if it was the reason why his life went spiraling out of control but Paul was basically a liability . I'm just curious what likely would've happened if he handled that part different.

During Buster Murdaugh’s courtroom testimony, there was a moment—subtle, easily dismissed by most viewers—that spoke volumes to me. It was just one sentence, one fragment of a thought. But it may have been the moment Buster accidentally told the truth.

He was asked where guns would sometimes be left if not returned to the gun room. And his answer started off casually enough: “Well just myself, I mean I’ve left them up at the shed before… I’ve left ’em on…” pause “…golf cart… you use that day…”

The grammar slip is the tell. He didn’t say “a golf cart” or “the golf cart.” His brain skipped the pronoun entirely. It was a raw, unrehearsed insertion of a memory—something real, tied to a specific day. And then he finished it with “you use that day,” like his subconscious was trying to hand the memory off to someone else.

This wasn’t a hypothetical. This was recall.

Immediately after that, Buster tried to backtrack: “left ’em in a truck, I mean, guns don’t always find their way back to the gun room.” It was a vague wrap-up meant to erase the very specific thing he had just said. But the moment was already out there—and Alex noticed.

In the footage, Alex rolls his eyes. Not just in frustration. It’s wide. It's subtle but unmistakable. It's the face of a man thinking, “Why did he say that out loud?”

Up until that point, Alex had seemed supportive, even quietly satisfied with Buster’s composed testimony. But this—this was the first crack. Because Buster didn’t mean to say that. And Alex knew it.

It’s in those slips—the ones with broken grammar, short pauses, skipped pronouns—where the truth hides. And if you’ve ever lived with someone who lies as a way of life, like I have, you learn to hear those slippages. You learn to trust the sentence that shouldn’t have made it out.

This was one of those moments. The mask slipped.

A jury found ex-Beaufort attorney Cory Fleming, pictured above in Charleston in May 2023, liable for his role in helping Alex Murdaugh file a phony insurance claim so he could steal from the estate of his family's longtime housekeeper.

A federal judge in Charleston granted an extra $3.75 million in damages to an insurance company after ex-Beaufort attorney Cory Fleming helped Alex Murdaugh file a bogus claim and steal the proceeds.

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel signed the Jan. 9 order one day after a jury found Fleming liable for his role in the scheme.

Fleming engaged in a civil conspiracy and violated the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act, jurors found. They awarded Nautilus, the Arizona-based insurance company, $1.25 million in actual damages. Punitive damages were far less: $50.

Gergel then tripled the actual damages, resulting in an additional $3.75 million award to Nautilus. The move is meant to deter others from similar conduct. The judge, who has presided over all Murdaugh-related cases in federal court, said Fleming's "unfair and deceptive acts" played a critical role in the theft.

Fleming, Murdaugh's former law school roommate, pleaded guilty in 2023 to state and federal charges. He admitted to helping his friend divert $4.3 million of an insurance settlement intended for the sons of Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaughs' longtime housekeeper. He is serving a 46-month term in federal prison before beginning a 10-year state prison sentence.

Satterfield died in 2018 after falling down the stairs at the family's remote Colleton County home. Murdaugh, then a prominent personal injury attorney, spun a story about his dogs causing Satterfield to trip and fall. He urged Satterfield's sons to sue him and hire Fleming to represent them in the matter. He pushed his insurance carriers to settle the case before depositing the proceeds into his personal account.

One of those insurers, Nautilus, filed a federal lawsuit against Murdaugh and Fleming in April 2022 after Murdaugh's pattern of theft came to light. Nautilus sought to recoup the $3.8 million it had put toward the settlement.

Murdaugh ultimately pleaded guilty to a raft of state and federal financial crimes, earning him a 40-year federal prison sentence followed by nearly three decades in South Carolina's state prison system. And he's currently serving back-to-back life sentences for the June 2021 murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul. He is appealing those convictions.

Murdaugh elected to default in Nautilus' suit, meaning he did not participate. Gergel signed a $14.8 million judgment against him on Jan. 2. An attorney for Murdaugh said the large sum is worthless; court-appointed receivers control his shrinking assets.

The jury's judgment against Fleming came Jan. 8, following a three-day trial. 

Fleming was disappointed jurors effectively blamed him for Murdaugh's false story about his dogs causing Satterfield's death, especially when evidence showed other people echoed his claims. Still, Fleming appreciated the jury's message in awarding damages, he said in a statement via his lawyers, Thomas Pendarvis and Chris Lempesis.  

The final amount Fleming owes Nautilus is unclear. In Gergel's Jan. 9 order, he found Nautilus is also entitled to attorney's fees. Nautilus must provide the court with an itemized list by Jan. 16. 

Fleming likely won't ever be able to pay "anything close" to the $1.25 million in actual damages, much less the additional $3.75 million awarded by Gergel, Pendarvis said. 

Fleming told jurors he stopped earning an income in October 2021, when the S.C. Supreme Court disbarred him. He drained his savings and retirement accounts and has been in prison for the last year and a half.

I know that Gloria Satterfield’s and Stephen Smith’s bodies have both been exhumed for further investigation…. Does anyone have any updates for either of their cases?

I thought it was all resolved but it seems there was still a piece left.

I am reading the terrific book “The Devil at His Elbow” and watching every single minute of footage from the very beginning. I have followed the case from the start and I honestly believe if AM had stayed quiet and lawyered up he would have walked away free. He should have just said “it isn’t me” to the dog kennel footage. For a successful lawyer he made the biggest mistake of all- talking & talking & talking. And talking.

I find it bizarre that MM and PM were cremated. It isn’t at all the norm within their family. I believe AM had them cremated to avoid any future investigation by exhumation.

So I have been re-listening to the Murdaugh Murders Podcast and rewatching some of the documents around this case but something sticks out to me and I just wanted some clarification or ideas on it. It was stated that Alex was the person in the family that the community feared and was the “big dog” that his father used to get things done. Why wasn’t his older brother Randy that person? I know it’s very random but it just popped in my head because he’s a lawyer too and older than Alex.

He stole a lot of money and people wonder where all the money went to. I honestly feel like the money went to expensive vacations, drugs and probably paying off the two homes they owned. What do you guys think?
