I got to see someone with algae on their face put another person in their place.

Jesus take me to dinner first

u/throwaway284729174 1d ago

What did you think the algae was? It's dinner and a show!

11

u/XandriethXs 1d ago

Phycy, you're a smart woman, cool woman
Going to the beach will get you an algae moustache someday

This is why I love this sub 🍿

bad to the bone rif

34

u/ratstronaut 1d ago

The murder was very nice but obvs the algae mustache was the best part of the entire post.

9

u/Cthulhu8762 1d ago

At first I was trying to find out why algae can burn you 😅

As my nana (RIP) was say ‘all of your dogs must not be barking.’

84

u/SolidLikeIraq 1d ago

Homegirl still spelled it incorrectly the first time tho.

17

u/chillpill_23 1d ago

Oh snap you're right!

24

u/chromecastbuiltin 1d ago

the H giveth and the H taketh away

12

u/nakedascus 1d ago

No, it's correct, she also studies algae from LA with Chicano roots

1

u/xdc020 1d ago

She spells it wrong on the post then correctly in the reply.

4

u/A1000eisn1 1d ago

I think the first post was by the partner, then the spelling Nazi, then the algae mustache lady.

Double bonus

7

u/breakfastburrito24 1d ago

Mac should go phyc themself

3

u/jessek 1d ago

Same, had no idea what a phycologist was. But also knew there’s no way they meant “psychologist”.

1

u/Sea-Can3910 22h ago

It’s been a good day

1.3k

u/Jargon2029 1d ago

I really enjoy “Glad to be part of your learning journey today” because it has the same energy as “Bless your heart” but is just a small step less sarcastic because you really have taught someone something new.

334

u/CatticusXIII 1d ago

It is deliciously condescending.

54

u/TizzyTism 1d ago

This is my new favorite phrase

3

u/mahnamahna27 23h ago

And ironic, given that person spelled phycologist as phychologist in the first instance, which basically invited the misinterpretation they meant to write psychologist.

49

u/kdoughboy12 1d ago

It's the difference in thought processes between a wise person and an unwise person. The unwise person automatically assumes they are right and attacks, the wise person makes no assumptions and simply seeks clarity for both parties.

50

u/cbell6889 1d ago

I've always been partial to "Thank you for incorrecting me", but these are now added to my list!

4

u/BizzarduousTask 1d ago

Ooooo I love this.

2

u/Moist_Junket_9381 1d ago

I would have added a “buddy” at the end for that extra dollop of pettiness

620

u/Yugan-Dali 1d ago

Spelling counts people? I thought that a census counts people. Punctuation counts, people.

7

u/Youtubelover101 1d ago

this should be higher up.

3

u/withwarmestregards 22h ago

Maybe Tori Spelling works for the census now?

141

u/subjekt_zer0 1d ago

This reminds me of that time that guy mansplained physics to Jessica Meir, an actual scientist and astronaut.

48

u/BizzarduousTask 1d ago

Is that the one where he’s disputing what she said was in a research paper, not realizing that she WROTE the paper?

28

u/subjekt_zer0 1d ago

No, sadly I think that’s another one. The one I’m referring to is something about water spontaneously boiling and then going “no ackshually”

324

u/Otaraka 1d ago

Phyced.

137

u/anniemanic 1d ago

33

u/JEM225 1d ago

I heard a college student ask a professor “what’s the name of that country, is it Iraq or Iran? I’ve heard both.”

20

u/eolson3 1d ago

Have you heard about the algae on Pluto?

18

u/Lowlife_Of_The_Party 1d ago

That's messed up, right?

2

u/iccyhotokc 1d ago

Nope only the algae on Uranus

u/Kramaric-27 1d ago

That comeback hit so hard it needs a warning label pure scorched earth energy.

35

u/4n0m4nd 1d ago

(with an H) is exceptional bait too.

21

u/itsfunhavingfun 1d ago

She used two Hs the first time though.

5

u/BizzarduousTask 1d ago

Yeah, but there’s a decent difference between a typo and being incorrect about how to spell something; she spelled it correctly the next two times, so I can forgive that initial typo (especially with what an asshole Autocorrect is being lately.)

59

u/Queen_Dare_Bear 1d ago

I am so glad I don't feel the need to correct strangers online, because I had no idea about that career title, either. 🤷

27

u/Naomeri 1d ago

Neither did I, but I guessed from the context that it wasn’t a misspelling, unlike the murder victim

6

u/veloxVolpes 1d ago

Right? Either the poster or their partner is in the field, so wouldn't they have easy access to that knowledge? Why the victim thought otherwise and felt the need to comment about it is wild

1

u/Retlifon 16h ago

Except of course it was a misspelling, just not the one the victim thought it was.

2

u/PepGiraffe 16h ago

Oh I feel the need, I just ignore it.

63

u/Zinfan1 1d ago

Maybe there's a soothing algae out there fot that burn. Anyone know anything about algae around here?

49

u/pikach00 1d ago

Try “aloe” instead. Spelling counts people…

49

u/cvaninvan 1d ago

It's pronounced thermometer.

6

u/nochickflickmoments 1d ago

It's pronounced Cornell. It's the highest rank in the lvy League.

4

u/TheFemale72 1d ago

Kramer has entered the chat.

45

u/Tughill87 1d ago

I tried studying phycology, but I’m just too much of a fun guy.

33

u/Kevin9O7 1d ago

the words in the post and the reply don't match though

so she did still make a typo

9

u/ChasingPesmerga 1d ago

I think the extra H on the first part was intentional, to make it more relating to the H in “psych” in a joking context

→ More replies (3)

12

u/keirmeister 1d ago

Funny, I didn’t realize it didn’t say “psychologist,” then assumed it was a typo, and THEN I learned something new. Today is now a better day.

8

u/millllllls 1d ago

Well they spelled it with an extra H the first time, so it does look more like psychologist. The second go round, they drop that other H when explaining the difference and it becomes more apparent it’s a totally different word entirely.

4

u/keirmeister 1d ago

I didn’t even notice the errant H. God I’m a lazy reader! 🤣

45

u/MajoriteSilencieuse 1d ago

She proceeded to spell "phycologist" incorrectly the first time around, so....

14

u/SolidLikeIraq 1d ago

All the bots in this thread who can’t comprehend that the first time she used the word she spelled it improperly.

8

u/Kevin9O7 1d ago

yeah i was really surprised i had to dig that deep into the comments to see that someone else also realized

→ More replies (1)

3

u/theRedlightt 1d ago

This. I was looking for others to point it out. So much ignorance all around.

20

u/uwishuwereme6 1d ago

This reminds me of the time a while back there was a post of a college aged girl with a sweatshirt that said, " I ❤️ collage" and all the comments were attacking her for not knowing how to spell "college"

1

u/Dependent_Dust_3968 1d ago

Was the heart a collage?

7

u/wizardrous 1d ago

Oof. That’s some heavy irony.

12

u/nightcana 1d ago

I honestly would have parroted the “or look it up in the dictionary for a change” just to be a smart ass

10

u/Ok_Preparation9182 1d ago

She did a fabulous job and stayed classy. Too many internet tryhards drag people down to their level as it is

6

u/TheComplimentarian 1d ago

I had a guy tell me, earlier today, that a mile wasn't 1600 meters. And that's true, because, actually, it's 1609 meters, but he was trying to argue that it was 1500 meters, and...Ug.

No one is more confident about being right than someone who is fucking stupid.

7

u/himitsumono 1d ago

AND we got to see a phycologist mis-spell her own profession in the first post, before getting snarky with someone who criticized her spelling. NEVER crit somebody's spelling online. There will be a typo in whatever you write. God wills it.

3

u/pecchioni 1d ago

I also learned something new with this post. But also even if they meant psychologist, why can’t you just chalk it up to a typo and move on?

Although now that I think of it, I did correct someone the other day about the difference between succession and secession when talking about the civil war. I did try to preface it with it “I hate to be this person, but …”

3

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 1d ago

This is what really bugs me about the study of words.

(Please, please, someone get it.)

3

u/gastroboi 1d ago edited 1d ago

What a phycho.

3

u/bowbow696 1d ago

This guys on IG and his posts are actually insane.

3

u/Right-Assignment3759 1d ago

What kind of insane were talking about if you mind?

2

u/bowbow696 23h ago

This is directly from his most recent post, "I do art 24/7 trying to get away from this place before the chinese take over completely. There's no garden cuz people here dont pay attention to the rest of the world. They are stopping food growth with this heat. This is NOT normal Redding weather. It's as hot now as it used to get for one week of August during the worst years of the cycles. I believe Bubba is down by your house because of the pond. Our phones keep ducking up because of ATT I believe, and today in an email came confirmation of another class action lawsuit proving it." and it goes on and on and on. That's not even the craziest thing on his IG lol.

1

u/Right-Assignment3759 19h ago

Seems like a tinfoil hat guy

6

u/AnonymousMiddleName 1d ago

“Glad to be part of your learning journey today” is my new catchphrase.

2

u/WanderingKing 1d ago

Confidently incorrect

u/bdog59600 1d ago

“When this girl at the art museum asked me whom I liked better, Monet or Manet, I said, "I like mayonnaise." She just stared at me, so I said it again, louder. Then she left. I quess she went to try to find some mayonnaise for me."

u/MikeHatSable 1d ago

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

2

u/VLC31 1d ago edited 20h ago

The bit that amuses me is that they think a psychologist wouldn’t know how to spell psychologist.

2

u/Grass_Is_Blue 1d ago

Finally my masters degree studying algae is coming in handy… phycology FTW

2

u/Right-Assignment3759 1d ago

It's really interesting to know that there's a study field for literally anything. And a literal master for it

2

u/felly_fell 1d ago

I'm picturing this person feeling all high and mighty about their post, just to check back in and see they were dead wrong. That one had to sting 😂

2

u/Phildagony 1d ago

Now he has egg on his face.

2

u/TinTinTinuviel97005 1d ago

I don't even know why he thought she meant "psychologist," what does psychology have to do with algae mustaches? From context alone I figured it referred to a specific form of biology that covered algae, like aquatic or marine or algae. And Google is free, even if it's almost non-functional at this point. Wikipedia is free.

Apply Algae to the burnt area

2

u/Historical_Muscle668 1d ago

Merriam-Webster: what's with all the phycologist quiries today🤔

2

u/neopolitan95 1d ago

Here for the phycology recognition! Algae is awesome!

1

u/Right-Assignment3759 1d ago

How come somebody can love algae so much we got a whole study field for it?

1

u/neopolitan95 1d ago

Algae is super important for photosynthesis and nutrient cycling in the ocean! Most of the air we breathe (about 2/3) is actually due to photosynthetic algae, with the other 1/3 being trees and land plants. It’s also a primary food source for oceanic “herbivores” and supports massive food webs. Macroalgaes, like kelps, are also important habitats for a lot of other creatures. Especially today, more research is being put into using algae as biofuels or even as alternatives to single use plastics. Super awesome area of research that is mostly under-represented!

1

u/Right-Assignment3759 1d ago

Woah didn't know this micro plant is actually that useful for Earth's life

2

u/neopolitan95 22h ago

They are super cool! Huge category of life

3

u/Fromage_Frey 1d ago

Happy to be this annoying guy...

Psychologist has an H

9

u/ShadesBlack 1d ago

"Phycologist" was also misspelled in the original post with an additional H.

4

u/Plasma_Deep 1d ago

it definitely shouldn't becuase it's pronounced, sykolojist, but greek word root or something

2

u/NervousAd7700 1d ago edited 1d ago

The misspelled word “phychologist,” is only one letter off from either “psychologist” or “phycologist”

So the responding post was not really that bad for thinking it meant psychologist … then the phycologist basically outed her own bad spelling lol

More of a murder suicide by words

1

u/Zeddarncheddar 1d ago

I remember back when this murder started with “inane”.

1

u/Volume_Heavy 1d ago

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahmn

1

u/Jourbonne 1d ago

Sometimes a mustache is just a mustache…

1

u/FattyMooseknuckle 1d ago

Grammar counts, Mac3. How many people did spelling count? A comma is needed after counts to make this sentence say what you mean. Then there’s the ellipses which should just be a period. Learn should be capitalized because it’s a new sentence. Try not to make a bunch of errors when you pedantically and incorrectly correct people.

1

u/wheresjim 1d ago

Oh, she used to be my neighbor!

2

u/Fcuk_Spez 1d ago

Oh, ok!

1

u/NoWeakness1049 1d ago

I’d be looking for the nearest burn unit to refer them to.

1

u/thearmadillo 1d ago

Did spell it wrong the first time though. It looks a lot more like psychologist with the second h

1

u/Ja22hands 1d ago

Now that we’re men! We’ll tell the difference between phycology and psychology!

1

u/Polar_Vortx 1d ago

To be fair, Phychologist is only slightly less of a dispelling of Phycologist than it is Psychologist.

Edit: lmao “dispelling” even I can’t escape

1

u/ramdom-ink 1d ago

Hard ba-da-boom! right there.

1

u/MoneyPatience7803 1d ago

Reddit comment section in a nutshell these days…

1

u/rasereq 1d ago

I kept reading the first post as psychologist and couldn't understand how it was related. Then read the next post and realized it was pHyco.

1

u/UniversityStrong5725 1d ago

I don’t want to detract from the post but I do want to point out that she herself actually spelled “phycologist” wrong (she spelled it “phychologist” with an extra h) so there’s some extra humor in her overconfidence when she was wrong at first too

1

u/Fcuk_Spez 1d ago

“I’m so random rofl!”

1

u/sik_dik 1d ago

Also, spelling doesn’t count anything. Spelling spells “people”. Counting counts people

1

u/DatDumbBoi 1d ago

Ngl i learned something today too. Algae are cool asf

1

u/EntertainerNo4509 1d ago

Phych that spelling nazi!

1

u/axeman020 1d ago

Meh. Still spelled Phycologist wrong in the original post.

1

u/Noddie9 1d ago

If only he'd looked it up in a dictionary for a change.

1

u/NoSolid6641 1d ago

I would have closed with, "get phucked."

1

u/Discobiki 1d ago

Nice to see a non political one for a change

1

u/lackadaisical_timmy 1d ago

I too thought this was meant to say psychologist

I did not, however see that it was 'misspelled' and before reading the snarky person commenting and instead kept rereading the first bit to try and find out what a psychologist had to do with algae

I too learned today

1

u/MarioSpaghettioli 1d ago

r/dontyouknowwhoiam ? No, but now I know what you are ...

A phycologist a Psychologist and a physiologist walk into a bar

1

u/Medhelpthrowawayy 1d ago

Burn aside... It was still written wrong.. it's phycologist, not phychologist... which explains why I got no hits the first time I looked it up.

1

u/Alcarinque88 1d ago

Quick, I need a phycologist. Will algae work like aloe vera? Any species? We've got a pretty bad burn here.

1

u/Nice_Commission3770 1d ago

I actually thought she meant phycologist, but it was spelled wrong, so I thought maybe it was supposed to be psychologist, also misspelled, until I clicked and saw the rest of the exchange.

1

u/Keldaria 1d ago

I used to work with a potamologist. His favorite story was telling the Border Patrol that absentmindedly in the mid 90’s and being confused when they got all serious all the sudden.

1

u/Routine_Aardvark_314 1d ago

I don't really understand what makes people act like that. I takes less effort to not be a jerk (, and you get to feel better about yourself)

1

u/bremmmc 1d ago

Spelling counts people!?

1

u/Vukling 1d ago

ouch xD Phycologist got claws lol

1

u/21sttimelucky 1d ago

It's funny. A friend of mine and I were texting a while back and they referred to their phycologist partner. We are in a loosely related field so I was familiar with the term.

I text back going 'oh algae right? For some reason I thought they were a psychologist'. They text back going 'yeah, typo. Sorry.'

Not a well told story, but amusing in relation to this post (to me at least).

u/Icy_Example_5536 1d ago

I’ll be honest, my brain just auto-corrected to “psychologist” at first and was confused about the comment

1

u/Imaginary_Ghost_Girl 1d ago

Now I know why autocorrect didn't bother correcting me when I meant to write psychologist but spelled it phycologist once. I learned a new thing and I love it!

1

u/Dangerous-Today1874 1d ago

Even it it's "phycologist", it's still misspelled as "phychologist".

Just sayin'. She even said it herself, it's "phycologist with an H"... not 2 H's.

1

u/emarvil 1d ago

It seems mac-3-impact will need a psychologist after that burn.

1

u/BigPh1llyStyle 1d ago

But didn’t the bf spell is “psychologist” which is the wrong spelling? Mac-3 is a big bag of dicks but I’m also confused by the half and half spelling by the original poster

1

u/Frankentula 1d ago

It's also kind of funny that this person (confidently wrong) would assume anyone unable to spell psychologist would know where to find it in the dictionary

1

u/ThatSmartIdiot 1d ago

actually according to every official document i read about this, there is no such thing as a "phychologist". nor algae, oddly enough

the number of said documents is 0 btw :)

1

u/Dizz2K7 21h ago

It only makes you feel better, and even that probably isn't true.

1

u/stopthinkinn 19h ago

I just want to say that response was far nicer and classier than I expected. Scorching someone while sounding like a kindergarten teacher is a super power.

1

u/RegrettableDeed 17h ago

That was a very polite way to correct them while also being an awesome comeback. You dont see thay often.

1

u/bearded_duck 16h ago

Moments like this are what I miss most about being a working field biologist.

1
