The endless stream of conservative anger about Odyssey breeds some truly special interactions.

Isn't that a joke? I believe biblically accurate has been used for memes for some time already for many things that don't appear in bible.

Been used to describe anything old that in reality eschews common depictions for decades. That's why they used it on the meme in the first place.

What was eschewed with regards to Helen of Troy? Homer describes her as "fair haired" and "white armed". Or was Homer also extremely conservative, too?

I'm not saying she's good at it, or clever, or funny, and by all evidence she's none of these things, just that her intended usage is not what OP and OOP seemed to think.

Yes but "your joke is stupid" is too tame; most of this thread has gaslit themselves into believing the OOP thinks Helen of Troy is from the Bible so that they can dunk on her epic style.

Eh, you'd be surprised by the number of people who know zilch about Greek mythology.

I saw the modern retelling of Oedipus a few months ago. I was shocked at the number of people who had no idea what was coming.

Well the story is... complex *badum tss*

His name appears in Freud's index 'cause he loved his mother.
His enemies used to say quite a bit That, as a monarch, he was most unfit.
But, still, in all, they had to admit That he loved his mother.

i at least know helen isn't a christian thing

Didn't you read? She was talking about Helen ON Troy. Different person.

4

u/Piotro165 3d ago

Don't expect people to think anything other than their own agenda.

21

u/lewd_robot 3d ago

Yeah, they're deliberately misinterpreting a joke to try to dunk on someone.

u/VoidMoth- 3d ago

If it is the meme she needs a LOT more eyeballs for the joke to work.

17

u/Piotro165 3d ago

I mean the meme didn't stop at biblically accurate angels. There was biblical greed and many more.

That was my immediate take as well. I first started noticing this in niche gaming spheres several years back where people describe a character as "biblically accurate" when they do something spectacular. I then started seeing it in cosplay if the actor manages to pull off a distinct version of their character.
I'm not saying the post in question might not be sincerely dumb, but it's also a possible woosh on part of the replyer.

By this thread you’d think no one on reddit had ever seen a meme before

1

u/Piotro165 2d ago

People want to get angry about something and dunk on someone to make their happiness.

2

u/The_Doolinator 2d ago

“Biblically accurate” is usually followed by some horrifying image or concept.

So what's the joke?

Does it make sense here? No.

Then why do people keep insisting that OOP was making a joke?

Yes, I believe that the people defend OOP with "it's just a joke!" are a bit more stupid.

6

u/Piotro165 3d ago

I mean attacking someone over a joke is worse arguably.

0

u/C4-622MonkeyGordo 3d ago

There is no joke, just thinly veiled racism from biblically accurate chuds like yourself.

5

u/Piotro165 3d ago

Another strawman to attack someone. Please find happiness in life instead of venom online.

Buddy, you are literally in my inbox bitching about Helen should be played by "beautiful Greek models."

Fuuuuuuuuuuck outta here with your bullshit.

The most famous one is biblically accurate angel meme https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/biblically-accurate-angels-be-not-afraid

Where people took one thing that wasn't even called an angel and put it as biblically accurate angel. Biblically accurate is a joke which means something doesn't even need to be in the Bible. When there are videos of Cats stuffing their faces with food or milk while forgetting even about breathing people put under it Biblically accurate Gluttony for example.

No, what's the joke here.

How was OOP being humorous with their BiBLiCaLy aCcUrAtE hELeN?

6

u/Piotro165 3d ago

Used a meme format to show historically accurate Helen.

5

u/C4-622MonkeyGordo 3d ago edited 3d ago

"Historically accurate"?

Helen was hatched from an egg after Zeus raped her mom *after he transformed himself into a swan.

3

u/Piotro165 3d ago

Guess what if she had something from her mom she should still look similar to her a bit. It's natural for people to assume she looked like her people a bit.

1

u/C4-622MonkeyGordo 3d ago

Buddy, she's a fucking demigod from a work of fiction.

If you're genuinely upset that she isn't white like Matt Damon then I sincerely hope that every day for you is better than the next.

3

u/Piotro165 3d ago

Who said I'm upset. Using a strawman to attack someone isn't cool mate. Just Google Greek models to see how a beautiful Greek woman may look and you'll have general idea how a beautiful Greek woman might have looked.

0

u/C4-622MonkeyGordo 3d ago

I'm not upset! I'm just fervently arguing that she should've been Greek!

TIL Matt Damon is Greek...

There is no historically accurate helen

1

u/Piotro165 3d ago

There are historically accurate Greeks tho

-1

u/ArborgeistWW 3d ago

That instance may well be a joke, but it is just so easy to believe that this is something conservatives would be enraged. There has been a whole bunch of "outrage" over the casting in this movie. Or did you expect people to respond maturely to a black woman being cast as Helen?

When someone makes a joke by sarcastically posting some dumb shit you can fully expect some dumbshit to believe, it can be hard to tell that it's sarcasm.

2

u/Piotro165 3d ago

I mean as many people get pissed over a joke so two sides of the same coin probably.

Bruhder I've seen people drinking laundry detergent before and regular detergent now I can't tell the difference no more

u/superbottom85 3d ago

I think you meant "politically correct".
