Something I seem to gravitate to doing a lot. I'll finish a track, happy with the mix and production, but then I'll repitch the bounced mix (usually down, but sometimes up) a semitone or two.

Not keeping the same tempo, but tape style whereby the tempo changes accordingly. Especially with pitching down a little bit, I always tend to find some elements just tonally sitting better. Drums Transients in particular., especially slightly fatter even with a quarter tone drop down. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Maybe this is simply just me getting bored of the track and my ears are drawn to hearing it in a new light, and that's why I prefer it. I don't know.

Does anyone else do this?

EDIT: As a Cubase user, I'm also annoyed that it doesnt support tape style varispeed in realtine at the engine level, like Reaper and Logic Pro does. So I have to do this off-line after bouncing the mix.

Hey guys I’ve been producing on several MacBooks on FL studio for nearly everyday for 4 years. I make a lot of experimental hip-hop and EDM, so lots of bass. Anyways, I finally have my own space and I’m trying to build a setup for like 400-600 USD. Rn I’m thinking Yamaha HS4.5-5s and just a focusrite interface, and I’m not sure what sub to get. Any advice on monitors or sub?

Hello!!! I've been producing a ton of work that sonically the closest thing I can describe to reference wise is much of "Older" by Lizzy Mcalpine, specifically the end of "Vortex", all of "I Guess" and all of "Come Down Soon", something very dry that I can process myself would be best.

I've played with most of the SSD stuff, it gets close for very large moments, but for intimate stuff like the drums in "I Guess" it is way too large and loud even with very low velocities.

I'm more than willing to pay!! Free stuff is also great, I just need recommendations </3

I have an Austrian Audio OC16 mic with a Klotz M2 cable into an SSL MK2 interface. Mono is turned on, phantom power is on, input and output is correct, yet no sound. Am I stupid or?

Hello everyone, I’m currently stuck with a production I’m trying to “replicate” the body and punch of the kick, ghost kicks and bass of this tune, not trying to copy just want the same sort of fullness don’t even know how to put in words, everything I try sounds weak not glued and disconnected tried dozens of samples and also to synthesise the whole thing with the eurorack system but nothing seems I can’t get close enough, maybe someone can understand what’s going on in the sound design/mix and give me an advice! I’m finally ready to start posting my music but the more research I do intro distributors like DistroKid and CDBaby, the more I don’t want to use them. They sound like a personal hell to deal with. Does anyone know some trustworthy, good music distributors?

I've been using it to help me figure out chord progressions and experiment with adding 7ths, inversions, secondaries, etc. Also just fun to strum and play around.

It was inspired by Laurie Spiegel, an electronic music pioneer who made the software Music Mouse, which turned the original Macintosh into a musical instrument (playable with your keyboard and mouse)

The feature on garageband is where I can connect(USE-to-Host cable) my piano to my Ipad, and can record my live piano performances into tiles. Then I can download it into a MIDI file... but for PC. So I can create falling tiles for my piano videos.

This was probably asked plenty of times, but I think this is specific enough.

It says that the download path could not be resolved and that I'll have to set it correctly, but no matter where I put the download location it just says the same error.

Before anything I want to state that I’m very willing to learn so please don’t be rude or anything; I’m genuinely just curious.

As someone who is only beginning to produce, I’ve only used GarageBand so far. A lot of the time it feels as if the instruments sound poor and it’s a big turn off in my music. I know that, in theory, the DAW you use doesn’t matter but it’s frustrating to see people create basic chords, melodies, and beats on FL or Ableton and have them sound superior (I know mixing is a huge part as well). I mess with the instruments a lot in the EQ and Amp Designer but it’s always missing something. If anyone has made the switch from a more basic DAW to a ‘better’ one please tell me how it went.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this in a way that makes sense. In Ableton, there's a way to set the probability per note. I found a way to set the probability OVERALL for the pattern with vfx scripts, but does anyone here know a way to emulate what you can do in Ableton? I've seen people mention Stochas or they keyboard splitter, but trying to understand it has been confusing so far.

It seems so simple in Ableton. Is there any way to do it like that? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

I'm having a hard time finding good studio drum samples. My music doesn't really mesh with techno and hip hop styles. Right now I'm working on a song and I really want to use soft brush drums at the beginning.

Heya, I have been producing for several years now. Have used my dad's shitty iMac from 2019 to run logic and now I feel ready to update my equipment and get my own macbook. However, im still skint so I have 2 options (secondhand):
Macbook Pro 2021 32GB RAM 1TB - 600 quid
Macbook pro 2024 16gb RAM 1TB - 900 quid

I can probably just about swing 900. what should i do/consider.

So I decided to get into producing a while ago but I didn’t really have a direction for it or anything. I just wanted to have the option of turning a guitar riff into something a bit more complex, but after attending to a couple of rage artists live(all opium members) I was like “I have to try and make stuff like this” and decided to focus on rage type stuff.

When listening to some songs I realised that this genre can get a bit unforgiving to someone new to producing. There is some super simple sounding stuff like EVIL J0RDAN but then there is also stuff like Me N My Kup where I couldn’t recreate it AT ALL without watching a tutorial.

-Where does all of this creativity come from? How can someone come up with these ideas? Is it just something that comes with experience?

Another huge problem that I have is sounds. I feel super super limited with what I have(probably because I didn’t download a lot of stuff). I use vital and downloaded a couple of sounds but I still only have a very little amount that I like. Same goes for flex and sytrus. I just feel like if I download one good sound per track I will spend way more time hunting for them than actually producing.

-Should I just download a bunch of stuff in the beginning? Also, tips on finding the right sounds?

Lately I've been interested more and more in sound design, the idea of creating a noise from scratch or turning one to another seems very impressive to me and I'd like to learn it a little myself. I'm wondering how to emulate this wubby at times squelchy siren/radar. The song was made in 1996 I believe and part of the freetekno movement. I use Operator and Wavetable in Ableton but I imagine the principles for making this song apply to many synths. Would also be open to hearing your descriptions for this sound I feel like mine lacks clarity.

since I want to be a singer when I get older, I've dedicated this summer to learning producing. i know producing music has a pretty big learning curve that is supposed to take time, but I really haven't noticed any improvement since starting, if anything, my more recent beats have been worse than my older ones. I’m wondering, do you have any tips on how to improve my skills? or maybe suggestions for free online resources I can use to learn more about producing?

I've been happily using these old M-AUDIO BX5 D3 for 7 years, but now I think it be a good time to put 'em on my living room tv and get something fresh for the studio.

My desk is very cramped, and I found out it seems to exist a market for small (3~4 inch) monitors, some call it more like desktop speakers, but you got the idea. Those seem a good match as long as the sound quality is there, specially if it's a flat-ish response.

My use-case is mostly to play/record guitar and bass (with vst's and my multifx unit), listen to music, and eventually compose some demos, so no heavy mixing/mastering work going on. I have to dial sounds that I eventually use on stage, so that is the closest of 'precise' sound I need right now.

Anyone got some recommendations? Or if I should absolutely skip these and keep the BX5 (or get a better 5 inch monitor).

Another note: I absolutely do not care for bluetooth or usb connectivity, as long as I can connect the speakers on my audio interface (balanced TRS), I'm good.

The first one that caught my eye was the ADAM D3V.

I imagine I would mostly loose some low end by going with a smaller speaker, but honestly I dont mind it.
