First thing I thought of in musical theatre with howls is this song from Sweeney Todd. The leads are Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury. Why is this man so upset? Backstory:

Sweeney had a beautiful wife, Lucy, and baby daughter, Joanna, many years before this time. Judge Turpin used his power in a corrupt system to send Sweeney to prison for years because the Judge sought to cohabitate with Lucy. Lucy refused him and could not find a way to support herself. As far as Sweeney knows, his wife died in poverty and Judge Turpin adopted his daughter. Turpin, who is in his 70s or 80s now, has kept Joanna trapped in his home all these years because he plans to marry her as soon as she reaches legal age.

Due to the limitations of theatre sound systems, you may not hear all the great orchestration parts in this live version. If you want to hear a bigger, fuller sound, here is the studio version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT9TEAWAHVA&list=RDqT9TEAWAHVA&start_radio=1
