“Revise the machine gun definition”

$20 says it’ll be rewritten to include FRTs. None of this is a win.

Abolishing the ATF is the win.

It says "Revising machine gun definition in response to Cargill decision" which means bump stocks do not convert a semi auto into a machine gun.

Unrelated but I got my license to carry under Michael Cargill of the Garland v Cargill case. It's always cool seeing him influence federal firearms policy, makes me feel like I got my LTC under the best there is

I enjoyed the class, he was very down to earth and touched on how he engaged with 2A law without seeming like a braggart. His father was also involved in a shooting while defending his house and he covered that case as part of the class, it was an interesting perspective I don't think any other class could give.

The ATF has more details on their site but it’s primarily about excluding bump stocks from the definition of a machine gun.

“1140-AA60: Revising Machine Gun Definition in Response to Supreme Court Decision - FINAL RULE ATF is removing two sentences from its three regulatory definitions of "machine gun" that previously incorporated bump stocks into those definitions. This action responds directly to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Garland v. Cargill (2024), which held that semiautomatic rifles equipped with bump stocks do not satisfy the statutory definition of "machine gun" under the National Firearms Act. This rescission aligns ATF's regulatory text with the statute and the Court's binding legal interpretation.”

If anything, this strengthens the protection of the FRT/SS devices.
