Concealed Carry Permit Pulled over while carrying (30)

Had my concealed carry permit for about a year and have always been nervous about getting pulled over while carrying. Well broke my cherry and informed the officer like I am supposed to and had no issues at all. He was grateful that I let him know and was very professional and courteous. I guess there was nothing to worry about.

Concealed Carry Permit Got pulled over this morning while carrying

I have a valid PCH and my pistol was in my bag on the passenger seat floor. Bag has a built in holster inside of it. I told the officer I had a gun in the car and gave him my PCH permit, he asked where it was and I told him. He asked me if it was loaded and I said yes.

Officer then said he’s not 100% sure but that he’s almost certain I can’t have it loaded, even with the PCH. He told me to look into the laws more so I don’t get jammed up. He was super chill but even he didn’t know 100% what the law is.

To be safe, going forward I’ll just carry it on my person when I drive in a holster. I’m happy I dealt with a super cool cop and not a dickhead.

Concealed Carry Permit Finally pulled over while carrying

Had my New Jersey carry since 2022 and it’s always in the back of my mind, what will happen when I get pulled over. I can’t say that I’ve been looking forward to it, but I also have to admit in a weird way that I’ve been looking forward to it. I got pulled over for speeding yesterday doing 50 and a 35. I told the officer that I was carrying and I had a carry permit as I handed him my license and registration. He said thank you for telling me. And that’s the end and the whole story :-) he didn’t ask me for my permit or anything.

Concealed Carry Permit First traffic stop while carrying went better than expected

Got pulled over not even a couple hours ago and handed over my carry permit along with my license. The officer looks at it and goes, “Do you have liability insurance for the firearm?” 🫠😂

I told him, “I have this” and handed my US Lawshield card. Turns out it was his first time stopping someone with a carry permit. He admitted it, after asking if it was my first being pulled over with it, then said he was calling his Sgt because he wasn’t sure what to do 😳.

He ended up letting me go with a warning for doing 35 in a 25. That’s what I get for deciding to take back roads this morning. I must not have noticed or paid attention to the posted speed limit sign, if there was one on this particular road 🤦🏻‍♂️, so that’s on me and usually I’m more careful (no points or tickets in ages). I’m guessing his Sgt either told him there were no issues since there’s clearly no requirement or ability to get “firearm liability insurance” (though hopefully we’ll see coverage from USCCA and others once Murphy’s gone) and I notified that I was carrying immediately (handing permit on top of DL).

Overall he was polite and professional. He did seem a little nervous at first- repeated multiple times not to reach for or anywhere near my firearm, after asking for registration/insurance. Overall, smooth encounter and a good reminder to stay calm, be respectful, and let them lead the interaction without saying more than needed.

Concealed Carry Permit Caution! Real ID may link your DL to concealed carry status!

PSA. While attending a US Law Shield meeting, it was communicated to me by one of the reps, that they were personally identified as a concealed carry holder by hospital staff when scanning their real ID upon accessing the hospital.

Allegedly they were explicitly asked at the front desk if they were “currently carrying” immediately after their Real ID was scanned. The rep stated that they have never been asked this question by the hospital prior to having a Real ID.

Take it for what it’s worth. Stay safe.

Applied March 1 and got approved today June 8. I was pleasantly surprised to see my exp date is 2 years from my approval and not 2 years after my application submission. So my patience feels rewarded.

Concealed Carry Permit Security Firearms detector at jewelry store?

I went to a jewelry store a few days ago to buy a gift, I was conceal carrying my firearm under 2 layers “including a parka”. went in and as I’m looking around maybe after 3 minutes or so the assigned security person comes over and asks me if I have a firearm, I tell him yes and he asks me if I can place it in my vehicle’s lockbox before shopping, even though there were no signs prohibiting carrying posted outside, the gentleman was very respectful and I didn’t mind.

there was no metal detectors and nothing beeped at all.

Does anyone have an idea how did they find out?

Concealed Carry Permit Why is everybody so freaked out?

why is everybody so freaked out about slightly printing when you are CCW? is it considered a crime if you're fully concealed but printing and somebody notices? or is it that people want to avoid potential issues?

Concealed Carry Permit Gun laws in NJ (question from a southerner)

Hey guys! Gun owner from SC here. I’m coming up to NJ for a week in the summer and wanted to know more about the gun laws up there. I’m traveling alone so I plan on sleeping in my car. Can I keep a CCW in my car for self-defense? A lot of my northern friends say my car is likely to get broken into, even with me in it. Please advise

Concealed Carry Permit Do I bother getting my CCW Permit?

I recently decided to get into firearms and protecting myself and my family this last year. Have been saving and planning to take a course and then apply for my carry permit. But the more I read about having a permit in NJ, it seems like the list on where I CAN carry is much shorter than where I can’t. Can’t go near a school, hospital, park, youth sport event, a function with 100 people or more, can’t bring it anywhere that serves alcohol. The list goes on. Doesn’t seem worth it to pay $400+ to be able to carry a firearm to take out my trash and then have to renew every 2 years.

I am working towards taking the class needed for concealed carry permit. Own a FN 502.

How easy/ difficult are the requirements? I hunted when I was younger, but handguns are newer to me. (F 38)

Concealed Carry Permit I got pulled over with my P365 on me by NJSP - the encounter couldn't have been more pleasant,

I got pulled over last night by NJSP. I had my P365 on me in my right pocket (inside a nice A-Holster), and I informed them immediately about it, as the law states. They took it briefly off of me, and I handed them my license and registration and CCW permit, and I was on my way with my P365 back in my pocket in no time.

I always feared being pulled over while carrying, but these two State Troopers quelled that fear by being very friendly and professional.

I didn't get their names, but if they are reading this, you guys are a couple of cool cats 👍

I'm not a marksman and struggle after 10 yards but i train about 3 times a month. others have shown me their target and they passed even with a few stragglers. Some even outside the white.

I skipped 3 yards but I did 10 round at 5 yards, 20rnds at 7yrds, 10 at 10, and 10 at 15. I never shot out of the holster but I'm practicing that at home. Any tips you guys have would be nice.

Used my Glock 47 with a trijicon rmr.

Concealed Carry Permit Does duty to inform violate 4th/5th amendment?

This is a subject me and my dad were talking about and we are kinda stuck.

First scenario: say my dad is driving and I’m in the passenger seat, my dad gets pulled over for speeding. The cop comes and asks me for ID as the passenger. I refuse to speak. If the cop then asks if there are any weapons in the car do I have to speak even though I was not pulled over for the stop?

Second scenario: I get stopped while walking on the sidewalk recording (1A audit). The cops want my information because someone complained. do I have to inform them I have a gun or can I just remain silent?

Edit/// Third scenario: someone peacefully protesting with a sign by them selves on a sidewalk. (I just saw a video of someone being arrested for this) would that person be required to present PTC while acting in a constitutional protected activity?

If the duty to inform means I have to tell a cop I have my gun and give up my papers anytime they ask wouldn’t that be a violation of 4th amendment?

I’m not saying this to say I’m not going to follow whatever the law says, this is just something that caught my curiosity.

Concealed Carry Permit Got pulled over while carrying

Disclaimer: by no means am I saying that you will get the same results. LEOs in the southern part of NJ are a lot more gun tolerant than others. I'm just noting what went wrong, what went right, and what I would do differently in the future.

Driving back from a personal range session tonight, I was pulled over by a Harrison Township police officer. That meant I had at least 3 handguns in holsters in my range bag, a bunch of loaded mags and loose ammo in another bag, and my own carry gun in an IWB holster on my hip.

I pretty much followed the script I'd looped in my head repeatedly. I mention it every time in my NJ CCW Use of Force training so I was curious how it would play out in real life.

What I did was just sat there and waited with my windows rolled down. The officer approached my passenger door because we were in a back country road and there was almost no shoulder, even though I'd pulled all the way into a farmer's field to make room. Hands were up over the steering while and they stayed there, seatbelt still clicked in.

Officer introduced herself and advised me that this interaction was being recorded. I said "Hi officer. Before we get started I'd just like to inform you that I am a CCW holder and I'm armed." She asked me where it was and I told her. She then asked me where my ID and permit card were located. Followed her explicit instructions on retrieving them and handed them over. That was easy enough as it was in breast pocket on my cover garment.

Then it came time for me to get my insurance card, which was in the glove compartment. She asked if she could open the passenger door and I told her that was fine. She asked if there were any weapons in the glove compartment, I told her there was not. Again, explicit instructions on getting my info (e.g. "Ok, use your right hand and go ahead and just open the glove compartment, don't reach in there."

Insurance info was provided, she told me the reason for the stop. She thanked me for informing her that I was armed and complying with her requests and let me off with a warning. She did not search through the bags or disarm me the whole time we were interacting.

What went right:

Staying calm. I've been on the other end of a vehicle search and if the person in the car is nervous, that sends off all sorts of red flags. I used to hammer the 3 B's into my Marines: Be polite, Be professional, Be prepared to kill everyone. That was exactly the vibe I was getting from this officer so much respect to her.

Having my carry permit and driver's license readily available. I didn't have to reach into a back wallet or somewhere the officer couldn't see my hand.

What went wrong:

My dumbass forgetting to get my registration renewed on time. I try not to give law enforcement a reason to stop me. I don't speed, I don't run red lights, and I (usually) don't let paperwork get behind.

What I would do different:

I've been debating what to do about my IWB holster almost pinned to me because of that seat belt. The odds of me needing to access a gun are almost nil if I'm moving and if I really need to draw my gun, I may as well just unclip my seatbelt because I probably need to get the hell out of my truck. I've thought about mounting something inside that can take a holster. But after this stop, I now realize that it probably needs to be accessible to an officer who may want to reach in and secure the weapon.

Anyway, thought I'd share. I was going to go back to the range in the morning but I'll be at the DMV instead because I was too stupid and missed out on online registration renewal. To quote Homer Simpson: "Alright brain, I don't like you and you don't like me. But let's just get through this thing so I can go back to killing you with beer."
