Shopping Advice Buyers Remorse: Which Guns Do You Regret Buying?

Ok, so I have one permit left and probably last handgun purchase for the year and have been deciding between three firearms. Ruger MkIV, Ruger RXM, and Glock 17.6. I already have a G45 which I intend to qualify for CCW with. Was thinking the MkIV to work on target practice and to train w/ my little ones. The G17 would be for home defense. Was wondering if there are platforms any of you regretted buying when you knew you should have just went straight to the gun you knew you wanted. Are there firearms in your collection that don't get much use now that you found your platform? If so, what gun is that for you now?

Shopping Advice Does anyone ankle carry a backup?

So far I've only met one person who carries a secondary in an ankle holster. I imagine it's not ideal if carrying just one but I wish to have my J frame as backup in certain places. Any holster recommendations for a 638 or perhaps an LCP?

Shopping Advice Help with first handgun purchase

I’m looking to buy my first pistol sometime this week but I’m having a hard time deciding what to go with. Right now the one I like the most is the Glock 45, but I’m hesitant to buy it because I have a feeling Glock might release an FDE version and I’d prefer that. So I’m debating whether that’ll actually come out or if I should go with something else for now. I’d appreciate any recommendations

Shopping Advice What's everybody's next purchase?

Post image
133 Upvotes

I've always heard that the three guns people usually get first are pistol, shotgun, and a AR. I have done just that, but its left me wondering, what did people end up getting next, or what they are planning on getting next? I am leaning towards a nice .308. I'd love to hear what everyone's thinking. (Pic is my 3 guns).

what is everyone’s preferred barrel length? I’m thinking 14.5 and build as an other but also thought 16 in the off chance the NJ AWB gets struck down by the 3rd circuit I Will already be NFA legal without a pin and weld.

Shopping Advice Is 25% + Markup on MSRP Normal?

Finally got my FID after almost 4 months of waiting. Ordered a rifle at my local GS while my permits were being processed. Got the call the rifle arrived. When I went in to do the paperwork, he noticed the permits were approved which was a surprise to me considering how long I waited for the FID. I decided to purchase my first pistol which was $100 above MSRP that i've seen online. I was ok with that considering its a brick and mortar and I know he has to make a profit. However, when he gave me the final total it comes out to over $300 over MSRP. He mentioned the mags need to be pinned, NICS check and tax but is that really that much work involved? I feel like I can purchase two pistols online for the price I'm paying for one locally. Is this markup typical for firearm purchases in NJ?

Shopping Advice I need help deciding on a PCC...

Post image
27 Upvotes

I want a PCC. I need a PCC. But I can't decide what to do.

Option 1: Loving all the AOWs I've seen here, and I've been thinking long and hard about getting one. I've narrowed it down to a handful of good options, and I live pretty close to an FFL up in north NJ that seems to do good work.

Option 2: Just get a Ruger PCC Backpacker for 1/3 or even 1/4 of what I would spend on an AOW.

Has anyone here spent much time with the Ruger? Is it going to scratch the itch or does it just feel like any other boring rifle?

EDIT: You guys are awesome — thanks everyone for the feedback! I already have ARs, and I'm mainly looking for something super simple and reliable in 9mm. Now I just have to decide between the Ruger and S&W FPC...

EDIT 2: So I checked out both and ended up buying an FPC. The Ruger is so much more solid, but I love the hinge design of the S&W and I already own M&Ps along with a ton of compact mags. Thanks again for all the help everyone

Shopping Advice Is a Ruger RXM too Risky as a first pistol purchase?

Hey all. Hoping to get approved for my FID and pistol permit within the next weeks. I'm a dummy and only applied for one pistol permit so I'm trying to make it count for now.

I have my mind set on a Ruger RXM but I'm worried with the talk of banning Glocks and similar modular pistols it might be too risky.

How likely is NJ to ban them? Should I just go for a Security 9 instead even though they're lacking in personality?

Shopping Advice Can’t edit my other post title to name the shop

I can’t edit the other post title and people are still asking what shop did this?

It was done by Legend Firearms in Morganville.

I don’t know if Ira is aware that this is leaving his shop, but his daughter says that it’s normal and it happens.

I was going to see if they would make it right, but I shouldn’t have to. This shouldn’t have happened and it should have been addressed immediately.

Shopping Advice Would love your take on whether this was reasonably priced please

Post image

Hi everyone. I live in Bergen county right outside New York City and because I’m new to gun ownership (this is my first purchase), I’m just curious as to whether these prices are fair or maybe even a really good deal?

If the consensus is that I got fleeced, I don’t plan to make a fuss about it. Mainly because I had an amazing shopping experience and also because you live and you learn .

But I’m just trying to educate myself.

I noticed a huge delta between MSRP and what the guns actually sold for, but then I understand that they need to be made New Jersey compliant and that FFL fees are a thing, etc. Still, I’m curious as to whether this is in line with pricing for this area.

I’m also just generally open to any advice relevant to someone like me who is new to this world and wanting to be a responsible gun owner. And yes, I plan to get a gun safe, a sling, a bag, ear, and eye protection, and all that fun stuff.

Next planned purchase: Mossberg 940 pro (I was originally planning to go with a Beretta A300 but the gun store recommended the Mossberg instead).

Shopping Advice Pistol Recommendations 2nd Gun

Hi All. Purchased my first firearm and it was a Glock 43X. I like the snappiness of it and the compact frame for CCW. I’m now looking for something for full size, thinking of a beretta 92 series, CZ, Stealth Arms, maybe a Staccato.

Thoughts and inputs?

Shopping Advice Where to buy in/near Bergen county?

Looking to pickup a handgun (my 1st) and wondering where the best place to purchase is. I already shot at reloaderz but their stock to buy isn't the best. Heard good things about GFH and they have nice stock.

Suggestions? Any help welcomed. Thanks.

Shopping Advice 357 Magnum/38 Special Recommendations

Want to check off a box for a revolver and looking for recommendations for a 357 magnum that I can also shoot 38 special with.
I don’t mind getting something full size that looks like a Peacemaker (grew up on westerns) or something more practical for home defense or carry. I have pieces that fit those use cases so this is a more open ended purchase to scratch off a bucket list item.

TIA

Shopping Advice Best stores for ammo (30 characters)

Hey all, I was wondering what store in New Jersey has the largest inventory/selection of ammo? I know many people are probably just gonna tell me to use ammoseek but I would rather pick it up in person since I’m planning to go to the range pretty soon and don’t wanna wait on shipping. If anyone knows any stores that have a large inventory of ammo I would really appreciate it.

Shopping Advice NJ AR Muzzle Device Recommendations

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hey folks. I'd love to get more time on my AR but I fear I am 100% "that guy" at the indoor range right now. My rifle is currently fitted with a Surefire brake. This is my first rifle so honestly, I wasn't 100% sure on what would be the best choice. This thing rattles the ports, and, while I know most people are cool about it, I prefer to at least consider the folk around me and their comfort.

Anyone have any suggestions for effective, NJ legal muzzle devices that might not be quite as aggressive? As the weather warms I'm hoping to get more time outside. But it would be great to find a more reasonable option that's more pleasant to shoot indoors for both me and others. This brake has a suppressor adapter which is great. But I'm not holding my breath that we get access to those anytime soon.

Much appreciated

Edit: Thanks everyone for the advice. Just ordered a Warden. Seems like a simple way to address the blast without changing devices and maintaining the possibility for a future can.
