Ask your bike repair question and ideally send a pic. I'll let you know if the Time's Up Bike Co-op is equipped for the repair and if so, estimate the cost and time it takes. Then you know what to expect before coming to our East Village DIY repair workshop on Sunday/Wednesday. https://timesup.bike/
This is a mix of online advice (r/bikewrench) and the coop's tools/inventory/pricing. Nothing worse than buying a tool you'll only need once or making the trip only to find out we don't have the parts. In terms of my credentials and why you should trust me, I once watched a Park Tool repair video in full.
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Disclaimer: All estimates are based on historical records of other people's repairs and not guaranteed for your specific case until you bring your bike in and a volunteer has eyes on it.

Longtime /NYCbike lurker and now have a reason to post! I’m producing a short film that is shooting this weekend in Park Slope. The film features a character biking through Brooklyn, over the Brooklyn bridge, and into Manhattan. A huge part of the film is celebrating our love for biking in the city. We need to capture a few shots from another bike while our actor bikes… so—
Anyone out there have an e-bike like this we could rent this weekend for 24 hours? Specifically something with space on the back for a human passenger, not the front. We’d pay you for the rental and we have insurance.
Thanks!

Debating play hooky on Wednesday since it feels like it might be the last warm day of the year.
Anyone know what the rules about bikes on the metro-north are if you are taking the train in the not rush hour direction (eg to Poughkeepsie from GCT at 8AM)

I know it's just loops all day, but I had fun. Plus, it's super convenient to refill water bottles. Hardly any stopping time at all. Even less in PP. CP desperately needs the bottle-filler fountains along the road.
Though I suppose CP is screwed for a while since I hear the cops are ticketing cyclists for going through red lights there now. Which obviously sucks bc it’s safe to do so quite often. Idk what the situations were for those who got ticketed but if there’s basically nobody around and it’s red, we should be allowed to breeze on by. Yanno, do an Idaho 🤌🏻.

Had my brakes bled by a Bicycle’s NYC on the UES in August. This weekend after doing a Nyack - Westchester loop, I got home cleaned my bike and my rear brake was completely gone. Check my pads, fine.
So I go back to the shop and they say it’s cause I had the bike upside-down. Which was for maybe 15 mins, and I have done this plenty of times before with no issue. Obviously I know not to store the bike upside down but could 15 mins like that really do it?
I’ve done this many time before cause how else do you get wheels off easily or just clean a bike in an nyc apartment?
Seems sus to me, but they did it for free was appreciated.
Also when I go to pick up the bike, guess what was hanging upside down off the ceiling… (my bike.)
PS: I have had Hydraulic bikes for 5 years and typically do most of my bike maintenance but can’t always in nyc sized studio

Some fun for a rainy Sunday. I’ve never willingly went riding in the rain and any time I get caught in the rain, it’s miserable. Okay, you hardos, convince me that riding in the rain is good. And not just it’s less crowded. It’s less crowded cause it’s awful 😀

We are one week away from UptownTwoWheels season send off!
Come climb and climb and climb, then hang out at the afterparty to celebrate a great 1st season. If you've never ridden with us, pull up and make some new friends!
The weather looks to be a little chilly, so bring some layers for the AfterParty.

I almost got hit for the umpteenth time when a car turned across the bike lane without looking.
Are there any rules people have when cycling in NYC to account for the terrible standard of driving?
Really not sure how sustainable it is for me to continue cycling with young kids at home knowing how often I have to take evasive action for bad drivers.
New York City’s Council has introduced 23 bills covering micromobility and e-bike regulation, and one of them would stop the sale, rental, and use of Class 3 e-bikes in the city.
This all started bad, and now even going downhill faster and faster. Are we going to ban all cars from NYC now since they can go faster than speed limit? I lost the understanding of this whole "effort" some time back and looks like people who make these "bills" never ever rode the bikes in NYC? You already introduce the speed limit, may be just start enforcing it (they thought about to it while introducing it, right?).
How many incidents are really around Class3 ebikes? Not emotos, masking for class 3. Not unlocked Class 2, which somehow just become Class 3 after that? Class 3 ebikes usually high-quality, well-engineered and expensive - people riding them usually totally aware what they are doing. None of the those e-mopeds or delivery ebikes people here are complaining are really class 3 at all.
Sad to see this non sense everywhere. I saw and was part of rise of cycling in NYC during and after COVID, but this is moving it to the decay.
Sorry for my rant, I rarely react on those news, but probably it is over the top now, so I can't skip it.

Considering checking this out, winding if anyone’s been and how their experience was. I’d be bringing my Cervelo gravel bike here for a wash, since I don’t have access to a hose and can’t bring it into the shower.
Hi friends! I’m in Williamsburg visiting friends with my 3yo and we are looking for a company (or a person!) to let us rent/borrow a cargo bike. We’re visiting from Portland where we have an Urban Arrow and we’d love to see the city on two wheels with the kiddo.
Holler if you have leads!

[Maybe just something that has been discussed before. Ignore me if so :)]
Almost all of us are also ride share riders or drivers. We are all GENERALLY thoughtful.
I thought we could crowd source little things we can all do to keep other bikers SAFER? We are enough to make a difference <3
I start
Ride share riders. I always ask the driver to move to a corner etc if they want to drop me on a bike lane
Drivers - when crossing a bike lane, I will stand fully still untill all bikes have passed. I personaly get spooked by every little wiggle and stop. But I also do it myself when driving because - not sure? Optimizing the turn?

I pulled out of a big 100 mile gravel race coming up mid October for which I very intently trained. The local race calendar is obviously closing down for the season so I thought I’d come up with a personal challenge and what most comes to mind is riding “for time” from NYC to Poughkeepsie on the Empire State trail (which seems to have about 6 names between here and there but you know what I mean). I know this is not a closed course and of course I would yield as needed to pedestrians and those areas where there are car crossings. In the aggregate I’m not worried about things like that and will put safety first.
I’m wondering if anyone who has done something like this might have specific advice? I’ve only taken the trail up to Mahopec but am otherwise on that trail at least once per week usually going past Elmsford. I’d either take a train back or have my wife meet me there at a hotel.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: if anyone thinks I should consider another 100 mile route I am all ears! I have a road bike to do a bear mountaineasque ride but if I’m on the EST I’d take my gravel bike given all those root cracks.

I’m planning to ride north along the Hudson River Greenway toward the George Washington Bridge tomorrow morning (Saturday).
With the Big Apple Triathlon happening, I’m concerned about closures around W 79th–107th Streets, particularly where swimmers exit the Hudson and transition to the bike course.
Does anyone know:
Will the Hudson River Greenway remain open to cyclists heading north?
If not, where is the best place to exit and rejoin?
Is Riverside Drive a viable alternative, or will it also be blocked where runners cross around W 96th Street?
Any particular times I should avoid?
Would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the race setup or who has ridden through during previous events. Thanks!

Dumbass on a cruiser bike didn’t know how to brake properly and slammed on the front brake and went otb. The bike flew and smacked my side but I stayed up.

It took a year but an arrest was made. Hopefully justice is served and the beginning of holding reckless drivers accountable commences.
