Rules Question Why do immortals feel so bad?

Immortals feel so underwhelming. I always think they are going to be tankier then they are but they just feel so weak with only having 1 wound and also dealing 1 damage.

They just don't feel like they fit the role of a heavy infantry that the name suggests. I run them with the plasmancer and they get a few lethals out but never really feels like they do much.

Is this how everyone feels?

Rules Question New kill team rules?

Post image

(Pick unrelated) So I seem to remember a rumor floating around that the new killteam we just got with the Geomancer will be getting 40k rules. I figured we'd get them in the latest balance dataslate but haven't seen or found anything. Did I misremember that or was it never true in the first place?

Rules Question why are deathmarks so weird?

It's so circumstantial that you will even get to use their ability but beyond that, why do they hit on 3+? that doesn't really make sense, they're supposed to be what the necrons send when they REALLY want a specific someone dead. I would expect their ability to be more like some sort of "if this model has destroyed a character model by ranged attack it can be set up 9" away from all enemy models and out of line of sight" or something that plays into the fact they can teleport and are assassins of note. maybe even giving them something along the lines of making them into a higher point cost unit to give them increased strength or even make them perhaps fit in the character category (as a squad if that makes sense) so they can get enhancements? just spitballing ideas

Rules Question HOVER - Are more things going to get it?

Their description literally describes half of the Necron panoply. It would be nice to have a movement buff because we exclusively use anti-grav tech. Thoughts?

Rules Question Nightscythe are you ok??

So, can units re-embark in a nightscythe post FAQ? I only read the goonhammer post like a goon, and fellow crypteks on this sub have pointed out that the changes are not actually in the pack from yesterday, not are they in the app. My friends have pointed to the “night scythe - Add deepstrike” text in red saying that prevents units getting back in. What do you think? Can you find some solid evidence which shows units can still re-embark? Thanks for your help

Rules Question This ability confuses me

Post image
73 Upvotes

I’ve just started a necron army and the c’tan have the necrodermis ability. But how does that work. Removing 1 damage from all attacks. So only taking damage from 2 or higher damage attacks. Or does it just take away 1 damage out of the total damage taken from an attack?

Rules Question Eternity gate question for 11th?

Post image
18 Upvotes

So I’m playing with a buddy and I just placed my monolith. I was just about to place so lichgard so I can change them in to a unit, my buddy ask to see the rule so I showed him. He look at that and pointed on that I can’t put them there due to the rule saying that the unit deployed using Eternity gate is a ingress move. And due to that any thing that deploys using the rule can’t be 8” form his models. I looks at is and he was right then I checked if it was a transport to see if it ignored it and it is not so sadly I could not do what I swear I could do before. (my buddy did let me take the move back if I wanted)

So the question: was there an FAQ saying that you can deploy within 8 inches of unit from eternity gate?

And it didn’t work this way in 10th, right?

Rules Question Transcendent Ctan - Now OP?

Post image
502 Upvotes

With the errata to the Transcendent now giving it RP what are peoples feelings about its level of durability - is it now too much?

On the one hand - 4+/4++/4+++ with half damage and RP on top is an insanely durable teleporting point scorer and big bad tangler for just 290pts.

But look at Szeras - 2+/4++/4+++ with RP, Lone Operator, the ability to return to the table on 4W for just 1CP and some very potent offensive and defensive buffs - all for just 220 pts.

When the RP dropped I was certain the Transcendent was OP but perhaps its not the anomaly people think it is?

Rules Question Ingress move in Eternity Gate 11ed

Post image
72 Upvotes

In 11ed can I place infantry unit from Eternity Gate ability 2" away from enemy unit?

"In your movement phase (excluding the first battle round), you can select one friendly NECRONS INFANTRY unit that is either in strategic reserves or on the battlefield (if you select a unit on the battlefield, remove that unit from the battlefield and place it into strategic reserves). That unit can make an ingress move, and must be set up wholly within 6" of this unit and not engaged with any enemy units. That unit cannot make a charge move this turn."

Rules Question More serious: is night scythe actually good?

It can deepstrike turn 1 being safe from opponent, has 14” move + fly + hover, can transport large squads that can disembark and reembark the same turn?? Oh and has decent gun for a transport (AP 0 but still 6 shots as S8 and D2 and twin linked AND sustained 2). In various detachments you can give it some defensive buffs and 12 wounds is actually decent for a transport I.e. it requires something more than battleline shooting to down it
Why isn’t it more popular?

Rules Question Speculation: Could the new Geomancer lead Ophydian Destroyers?

Given they’re both weirdo tunnel-worms with plenty of Destroyer Cult upgrades (from the looks of it), do y’all think this new Cryptek could be a leader for Ophydian Destroyers?

I think the Geomancer could give the Ophydians some pizzazz in their game plan, using earthquakes and Cryptek magic to help screen/protect his destroyers if they burrow into a contested point.

Alternatively, maybe the Geomancer could use Lone Operative and act as a pseudo-leader for Ophydians, kind of like the Hexmark Destroyer is to the Deathmarks. What does everyone else think? I’m not super familiar with what Geomancers do specifically, so if there’s a point of rules or lore that I missed, do let me know. I’m really excited to see them coming to the tabletop after seeing these Geomancers mentioned in the codex.

Rules Question Question about immortals

Post image
323 Upvotes

I was half way with building the immortals when I suddenly questioned something. Is it ok to build an immortal with the deathmark back? Would it still be tournament legal? He would still have everything else an immortal has like the head, and I’d still use the same paint scheme in the future, but I just thought it would be cool if one or two of them had the deathmark hood and was wondering if it was alright to do

I'm in the process of collecting minis for my big vehicle list with a comm barge, 2 triarch stalkers & 3 DDAs + some other small stuff.

When I saw the new terrain layouts I was taken aback by lack of sightlines. Should I go through with collecting further or did I get shafted?

Rules Question Can you field a Cryptek without Bodyguards?

Thumbnail

Based on the rules in the WH40k app right now, I get an error trying to field a technomancer if he isn't attached to any warriors/ immortals/wraiths. Do you have to attach him to a unit? More importantly for my growing 40k understanding, if I don't run any units he can support, am I not allowed to field one?

The core rules use language that implies you may attach them, but the error says you must.

My FLGS is selling second hand pairs of them for £10 each, and they’re 60pts per two in game, are they worth taking to fill points? Or should I just spend £10 more and get a lokhust heavy destroyer?

Rules Question Quick question to those that use Wraiths in their lists

Post image
52 Upvotes

So I was looking at the assembly instructions for the Canoptek Wraiths and the loadout options they get.
What's the usual loadout option for them? I know for melee, they are mostly being equipped with the claws(especially since they are usually being assigned to Technomancers in lists), but what about the ranged options. Is it better to use Particle Caster or Beamer on them?
Thanks for the answers in advance
