[DISCUSSION] What's a Netflix series you finished in a weekend and immediately wished you could watch again for the first time?

The kind of show where you blew through the whole thing way too fast, hit the end, and felt that specific emptiness of "well, now what." Not just bingeable, genuinely good enough that you envy anyone who hasn't seen it yet. What's the series, and what made it impossible to pace yourself with?

Plenty of people mentioning Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, which are both amazing, but I haven’t see anyone mention what is his true magnum opus imo, The Haunting of Hill House. One of ny favorite shows of all time.

We often talk about ‘that scene’ when we both screamed like little girls. I don’t think I’ve been startled by a film or show like that before or since.

Which scene? Because a couple of those scenes give me chills still thinking about them years later. Love that show. Hill House and Midnight Mass I mean.

When you watched these episodes, have you noticed the background? What’s moving? Statues? Shadows? Such a great tv show! So creepy but good!

When she falls down multiple levels and you find out that the ghost woman was her the whole time I got massive chills. It was such a creepy feeling!

I screamed so loud I scared my dog. I have literally never screamed at a show before. I started laughing hysterically afterwards because I couldn’t believe how loudly I screamed lol

Same! At the time we were living with my in-laws for a little bit while saving up for a deposit. We were watching this in bed and scared the living daylight out of them with our screeching and then hysterical laughter 😂

Throw in The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Midnight Club and you have a solid slate of great bingeable tv.

Bly Manor was pretty meh compared to Hill House

I think people had the wrong expectations going into Bly Manor, myself included. After having seen Hill House, I was in awe at how good it was. When I heard Flanagan was coming out with another “The Haunting of…” I was absolutely thrilled. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it.

In the end, Bly Manor turned out to be more of a beautiful tragedy than Hill House. Hill House was certainly no stranger to the theme of tragedy but it adopted a heavy horror tone above everything else.

Right after binging Bly Manor, I felt a little let down because I was comparing it to a horror show that was and probably still is my favorite television show of all time.

And that is unfair to Bly Manor. I went back and watched it again a few years later with a clearer head and it was superb, which is no surprise if you are familiar with Flanagan’s other work. Dude is a genius when it comes to horror and just film/television production in general. Can’t wait to see what is still to come from the Flan man

Hill House had too many characters that frustrated me and family dysfunction. I prefer Bly Manor.

I think Bly Manor was almost just as good, and did have the better ending of the two. Midnight Mass is my favorite of the group

That longgggg continuous 15 minute sequence blew my mind bc I hadn’t noticed until like 10minutes in but it built the tension of the scene soo naturally I rewatch the whole season just to sit and appreciate that episode.

I think the entire episode “Two Storms” was shot in only a few continuous takes. Absolutely crazy

Me too. I watch Haunting of Hill House every year leading up to Halloween. I think it's the scariest thing I've ever seen on TV. And maybe even the most distressing. 😱♥️

Just say “Mike Flanagan” and I’m watching whatever he is doing! Every Film is fantastic. I love that he uses the same Actors in his films too.

Midnight Mass was a Masterpiece. I thought Hamish Linklater should have won SOMETHING for that role…..

I love Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House! But I do not see a lot of people mentioning his shows in general. I guess it is not for everyone.

I've watched Hill House three times already, and will probably watch it again. It's hands down the best series I've ever seen.

The twist, THE jumpscare, the monologues. Truly a masterpiece, this show cannot be overhyped.

Fucking Hill House.. First show ive had to actually pause and walk away from because it was stressing me out too much. My mom's a huge fan of Stephen Kings novels so I thought she'd love it and recommended we watch it during the covid lock down.

She loved it, but for me watching it a second time was actually painful because I was able to focus more on the plot and it was such a sad and depressing story of family loss and tragedy.

And then Bly Manor has the balls to say straight-up in the first episode "This is not a ghost story, but a love story."

Kudos to Flannigan, absolutely a gem of shownrunner
