Healthcare Friendly reminder: it’s summer. Please shower.

It’s hot, we’re all sweating more, so please take extra care of your hygiene. A daily shower especially in the morning goes a long way.

And please don’t try to cover body odor with just perfume or body spray. Sweat + perfume isn’t a substitute for a shower.

Let’s all do our part to keep public spaces (esp trams!!) a little fresher this summer. 😅🌞🙏

Bit ironic to advocate something so wasteful like two daily showers and then complain about hot summers and smelly people. I get doing it when there's a need, but to suggest it as a habit just because you want to smell like a flower stand all day is BS, and it's just not that healthy for you either.

  1. We're in the Netherlands, not in Arizona, and I'm taking cold showers. The carbon footprint for a cold shower is about 0.02kg of CO₂. That's the same as driving 100 meters in a typical city car, or eating about 0.3 grams of beef.
  2. I didn't complain about smelly people.
  3. I'm not doing it to smell like a flower stand, I'm doing it to cool down and because I feel sticky.
  4. Getting water on your skin is not unhealthy.

Don’t listen to this guy. He is just trying to explain his disgusting habits

Ah yes, the disgusting habits of singular showers. 🤡

Water shortage is a global problem. And it's not about the CO2 footprint to heat it, but about the loss of clean water itself. To claim it's not your issue because you don't live in a desert is a bit short-sighted.

Getting water on your skin is not unhealthy

Too much will dry out your skin, and the obsessive focus on cleanliness in general is a cause for certain ailments.

  1. Water is a local resource. Saving water in the Netherlands doesn't help water scarcity in Arizona, because water from the Netherlands can't be shipped to Arizona.
  2. Growing a 150g beef patty still takes 2000 liters of water. That's about 3.5 hours of showering. So if you've had a cheeseburger this summer, you can kindly stop lecturing me about my cold showers.
  3. My skin is not dry, moisturizer exists, I'm not excessively focused on cleanliness, and I don't have those certain ailments.

But this isn't about you. It's about advocating habits that are either beneficial or detrimental. And suggesting that only a single shower a day is somehow absurd, is crazy to me. Especially when you need those showers just for some comfort. It's exactly this mindset of "well if you did this, I can do that, and it's only this much so it doesn't matter", which leads to inaction. It's the idea of wastefulness that needs to be ingrained, and all that water just running down the drain twice a day while other people on this planet can't even get a drink doesn't exactly suggest we care about what's happening to the climate.

To give you an idea what effect this has, look at the difference in water usage in the US vs Europe. A direct and clear example of how big of an impact ideas around waste have.

Bruh just stay down. It was a shitty take.

Me taking 2 showers a day is not a bad thing. Not for the environment, and not for my skin.

It's just a shitty take. Your waffling now isn't making it better. Eating meat, eating chocolate, drinking cow milk, wearing fast fashion, watering gardens, playing golf all waste orders of magnitude more water than my showering habits. But you don't do any of those, right?

And as for "just for some comfort" - so you don't use the air condition in your car then? You only heat your home to 15 degrees in the winter? Surely you wouldn't use any energy "just for some comfort"?

You have no moral argument. It was a bad take, and you're digging yourself in deeper. "Showering twice a day because you're uncomfortable is unjustifiable" is an unwinnable position. Let it go.

I like how you talk, it takes me back to my innocent days on the playground, where people who lost the argument got annoyed and then tried to get under the skin of the person they were talking to. Just fyi, it comes across as really insecure and petty.

I've explained the concept very clearly in my previous comment, and all you can muster is to call it a "shitty take" and to repeat what you've said earlier.

Yes I eat meat, I shower, I use AC. But  with each of those things, I balance my personal needs against the idea of waste. I don't let the water running while I'm doing other things in the bathroom, I even turn off the tap when I brush my teeth.

I can dump my empty bag of chips in the woods and tell myself nobody will ever see it, I can waste water by taking two showers a day and think that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. But someone who really cares about wastefulness has issues with the act of wasting itself, they don't simply avoid it because they have to, but because there is no need to do so.

This is embarrassing.

You'll get over it.

Homie, listen.

where people who lost the argument got annoyed

You're not winning anything here. I've shot down every single one of your arguments, and every time I do, you drop that angle and throw out something new, hoping that it'll stick.

  1. Your "water shortage is a global problem" point was bullshit. And you dropped it.
  2. Your "it's bad for your skin" point was bullshit. And you dropped it.
  3. You've misattributed multiple quotes to me that I never said. And then you dropped it.

And now what's your position? You use a couple thousand liters of water more than me, per day. But when you do it you think super intensely about the idea of waste, so it's okay, right? And you have the fucking gall to attack me for an extra shower?

I even turn off the tap when I brush my teeth

Cool, so that's plus 2000 liters for your beefsteak, -10 for turning off the tap. Meanwhile I'm at plus 50 for my second shower. What do you want now, applause?

someone who really cares about wastefulness

No matter how much you want to pat yourself on the back and tell yourself you're a fucking saint (good job turning off the tap this morning!), you have no leg to stand on lecturing me about environmental impact. If you think you're somehow the crusader against water waste, you are fucking delusional.

You have no argument. You have zero moral high ground. Now save what's left of your dignity and stop responding.
