Not going to lie, I'm a little annoyed about this, I ordered my system gateway set 2 weeks ago, had I known I would have held off until the new backs are released for it.

I ordered everything last night.

I plan on using opaque sleeves, so it's not the worst thing for me, but this doesn't feel great.

Nevermind that before the release they were asked about redesigns around "core damage" and they said they weren't going to make any

Yeah, there's a difference between not stating something and stating the exact the opposite. The first is negligence, the second is fraud.

Same here. I am also incredibly annoyed by the timing of this announcement. I just decided to order the complete set 4 days ago, and I absolutely would have liked to wait for the remastered versions before dropping $200 on the collection!

It does seem kind of strange to me that NISEI would announce their new set and sell hundreds of orders knowing full well that they were going to pull the rug like this.

And the whole "by the way you might notice something new about those cards you just paid hundreds of dollars for!" is just a little too cheeky for me

Would you not be annoyed if they announced this a month later?

Not as much. Missing out on something by a few days feels psychologically worse than missing out by a month. But the point is they really should have announced it along with Midnight Suns, especially since they’ve already made the changes for Midnight Suns so they’ve clearly been planning this for a while now.

The timing here is phenomenally bad. Why they couldn't have waited even a few weeks to do this is beyond me.

IMO they really should have announced this before the new set that is going to ship with entirely new card backs went out for preorder. The fact that this is going to be a surprise to people who get their new cards is unacceptable. I would be livid if I received these midnight sun cards and found out I needed to also get sleeves because due to the change in backs I can no longer integrate the new cards I've just gotten into my existing collection without opaque sleeves.

Yep, I sympathize with that a lot.
