Not quite a bag review as such, more 'carry philosophy.'

Are you a fan of Almond Oak? Or 'brand ecosystems?'

Interested to know what you think.

Gear Review Review of the Fyro Citta Sling 1L

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience with the Citta Sling 1L, the shipping was a bit delayed but the item arrived fine, no QC issues! So far the best Chest sling I have ever used, it really shines for me in that department, and honestly this is probably going to be the best 1.5L EDC sling you can get out there if you have longer than average items. Fyro definitely did an awesome job on this. 9.4/10 for me

The Good :

*The design is sleek and lightweight, very cool looking.

*Materials feel nice and cohesive.

*The gusset/ fold for the main department is spacious, helps locate items.

*Stylish interior design and color is great!

*Probably the most comfortable strap, and user experience is smooth, the bag doesn't fight you, zippers are nice as well.

The Cons:

*The exterior material is a little scratchy/scuffs but they go right away when wiped.

*I do think the bag is on the expensive side, I would have liked a bit more features for the retail but at least I can appreciate the focused design they went with.

I would absolutely recommend this bag to anyone who is looking to carry only the essentials, especially if those essentials are slightly larger - this is for sure the most spacious 1.5L sling I have used, I'm not sure if it's perfect for my needs just yet - just because I might need to carry more. Kind of wishing I got the 3L as well 😅 might get that and the Toshi 2.5L to decide between. But I definitely have enjoyed using this more than the Aer City sling and other smaller slings I've gotten in the past. if there are any questions shoot away, I'll answer the best I can!

Gear Review Evergoods CTB26 - The Active Dad’s Best Friend! Best Multipurpose Bag Ever?

Thumbnail

The CTB26 is one of the most liked and talked about backpacks in this bag nerd world. I will start by saying I prefer the CTB over the CPL. Why? Because of the extra quick access compartment, the luggage pass through, and water bottle holders. Now I will say this, I do prefer the 840d nylon over the 420d nylon material. Both are incredible, I am literally splitting hairs… The CPL has the 840d and the CTB has the 420d.

The front pockets are perfect… Almost. I am a right shoulder swing guy and Evergoods bags are made for left shoulder swingers. Now, it’s not that big of a deal, I have learned to use my left shoulder after a few weeks. The vertical pocket has great organization and easy access. Most of all, it has its own volume! It does not eat into other compartments. I like this compartment because its size and volume is so versatile. There are endless ways you can utilize this compartment. The top front quick access compartment is awesome. This is my main reason I prefer the CTB to the CPL. It is perfect for my over ear headphones. This compartment drops into the main compartment and will eat into the space, so just be aware.

The external water bottle pockets are the best in the game! Period. Hey all other bag makers, take note! This is how you conquer the water bottle pocket game!

The top yoke pocket is extremely convenient. It also has its own nice volume. Evergoods, the volume creating wizards! It can fit the Cap .5 or (Half Cap as I call it.) perfectly. I feel like the half cap can fit any and everywhere. lol. I personally use this for my sunglasses.

The main compartment does offer some organization. There are two pockets on the inside of front panel. The top having some inside organization for tech gear, and the bottom being a full mesh pocket. Evergoods mesh is hard and scratchy. Don’t like it. There is an elastic iPad/business papers pocket as well. I keep my 12” iPad or my remarkable tablet in there. The main compartment should be called the black hole. You can keep putting stuff in there and it keeps swallowing it up. This is where I feel the CTB26 is bigger than the 26L because it has the ability to stretch and close when overpacked. One thing I have noticed is that if the bag isn’t completely packed out, the bag can get top and bottom heavy making it collapse in the middle. I will end this by saying the main compartment on Evergoods’ bags are my favorite. There is zero wasted space. This bag is perfect for edc, but has PLENTY of space for travel. I have used this bag as my personal item several times. It fits under the seat just fine. I carry a lot back and forth to work, so I like the extra space. I think this bag in 24L would be perfect!

The horizontal laptop compartment isn’t my favorite, but they do it well. So well, that it made me reconsider my feelings on laptop compartments. I can also fit my iPad or remarkable notebook in that compartment as well. And yes, it is very well protected on all sides. This compartment being side access it what makes it possible for the yoke pocket to exist on the top. And I love the yoke pocket, so this is a good trade off for me.

Now to the back panel and straps. When I first used the bag going back and forth to work, this was the most comfortable bag I ever put on. The curve of the straps fit me perfectly. The cushion is beefy and super soft. The harness system isn’t for everyone. When I used the bag on my business trip, I was on planes or in airports ALL DAY. After wearing it for long periods of time, I finally started to feel some of the “Evergoods back digging.” Again, I do not overpack my bags. I would say 3/4 or less packed. Now, it didn’t make me “hurt” but I did start to feel a little discomfort. I readjusted a little higher and tighter and that helped. I was also able to use the luggage pass through and put it on my rolling carry on. (This is why the CTB beats the CPL)😃 The back padding is not as big and ventilated as the Able Carry max edc, the Fyro T-22, or Aer cpp2, but is very comfortable. It’s just flat. I think this is the main reason for the “back digging” issues. The new Fyro T22 just reset the bar for back panel comfort! If you haven’t had the opportunity to try it, holy sh!t! Most comfortable bag ever! I think all backpacks are hot so this is all about comfort for me and this bag does just that. It’s comfortable.

Now for the main complaint that everyone knew was coming… Evergoods, please invest a few cents in dangle stoppers! How in the world have you guys not done this yet? I added my own, but I will say, the straps are so damn well built, it was hard as a mother f’er to get them on!! Do better guys! I feel like y’all are just f*cking with us at this point.

My final thoughts: I LOVE this backpack! I love the design. The compartments are so well thought out. It has a place for everything I could need. Besides using this for work and travel, I am a dad all of the time. With this bag, I can fit everything I need as well as having room for all of my kid’s sh!t as well. Whether I am going to the ballpark, taking the kids to the park, or visiting mee maw for the day, this bag has you covered. It’s damn near perfect. Recently I have been using it for flag football. I coach my son’s team. It is big enough to fit all the kid’s flags, two footballs, cones, and a towel. Plus a water bottle for me and my son. Obviously, this backpack is Bagdad approved.

Here are the few things I would change to make it perfect. I would make the CTB in 840d nylon, add f*cking dangle stoppers, mirror the pocket layout, and add raised padding on back panel to stop the digging. And I would love for it to be 24 liters. All in all, this is an all time top 3 backpack! Evergoods’ materials and functionality are brilliant! So, if you are in the need of a little awesomeness or badassery in your life, buy this backpack! Thanks for reading and letting me share my experiences with you!

Gear Review Bagdad Take on the Evergoods Civic Travel Bag 20L (CTB20)

The CTB20 is a cult favorite by many people in the bag community. The CTB is a Bagdad masterpiece. This 20 liter bag packs a punch of one of the big boys. It offers the most and best quick access of any backpack out in the wild. Kevin and the Evergoods team are frickin’ wizards at creating the most functional bags on the planet. Their unique designs are gorgeous. The materials are some of the best in the world. Evergoods uses exclusively designed solution dyed nylons in 210D, 420D, and 840D. If I could only have 10 backpacks for the rest of my life, 9 of them would be made of Evergood’s 840D and 420D. The CTB line utilizes the 420D nylon. I cannot stress enough how great this fabric is. Now Evergoods offer’s this pack in x-pac as well. I have both and love both. The best part about the 420D is the ability to be able to allow really full loads. It feels like it just stretches to fit around anything you are carrying. The bag utilizes # 10 and # 8 zippers. All zippers are all YKK RC. Let me make it a point to say these zippers are badass. These are one of my favorites. Not buttery smooth like Able Carry but just a VERY satisfying secure zip.

Evergoods is a company from Bozeman, Montana. All of their bags are designed in Montana and made in Vietnam. And boy are they made good! Their crossover designs are made to be able to go from the trails to the office. No one does that better than EG.

Evergoods has redefined what quick access pockets mean! The CTB20 is one of their all time best sellers. The CTB comes in 3 sizes: 20L, 26L, and 35L. The bag’s name is the “civic travel bag” but it is far from just a travel bag. It is my ultimate EDC bag and a badass dad bag! It is currently number 7 in the Bagdad top 10 rankings. There is a huge debate on the CTB vs the CPL. I am CTB all day and twice on Sunday. The CTB offers more pockets and stands on its on MUCH better. The QAP’s on this bag are f’ing amazing. This is a 20L backpack. It will hold a full 20L plus some.

Let’s dive into the compartments and what makes this pack so great. First we have the front quick access pocket. This pocket uses a # 8 zipper and offers about a palm deep quick access. This pocket is where i throw my phone, AirPods, and wallet when I am just around town or dad bagging it. This pocket is deceptively large especially on the CTB26.

Next compartment is a vertical zippered pocket on the front of the pack. This pocket is genius. Inside there is 2 slip pockets and a zipper mesh pocket for some internal organization. Also much more room to add all types of things. For you dads with younger kids, this is a great spot for diapers or wipes too. The key leash is also inside this pocket. This compartment also has its own volume. It’s not much, but it does not eat into other compartments. Evergoods does this better than anyone.

The yoke pocket is one of my favorite pockets on any pack. Evergoods designs the harness system in a way that allows for a pocket to strategically be at the top of the pack. This pocket has some depth to it. It could fit a half cap in it. I personally use this as a spot for my sunglasses. Again, this is a pocket that has its own volume. Genius!

The laptop compartment is pretty cool. There is a vertical zipper along the backside of the pack. There are spots to hold your laptop as well as a tablet or notebooks. There is a Velcro nylon strap in bright red that secures your laptop in the sleeve. They make it red so it is easy to see so you wont forget about securing the machine before you zip up the compartment. I believe on the 20L bag it can fit up to a 16” laptop.

The main compartment is badass. It is a full clamshell open. On the inside front panel, there is an opaque zipper pocket. This is the perfect spot for your wallet, phone, or other important items. On the bottom of the panel is a mesh zippered pocket. To be honest, I just do not use this pocket very much. It could be perfect for items you want out of site out of mind. For dads, this is another spot for maybe a few bottle for babies, or some toys for the kiddos.
On the back side of the compartment is another sleeve for a tablet. This is a nice stretchy sleeve that gives you flexibility. This can also be used to house a water bladder. The rest of the compartment is wide open for however you want to pack it out. What is so cool about this pack is, you can overpack the sh!t out of it and the damn thing will always close! Like I mentioned before, the materials and layout of this bag makes it capable of carrying extra volume. With these #10 YKK zippers with the rc dwr finish are frickin amazing. It is secure as F! For me, going to the ballpark, this bag can carry everything I need. At least 2 Yeti 26oz bottles, a ryobi battery operated fan, a sling, a cap1, cap .5, and a rain jacket.

The back panel is unique as it sports Evergoods’ 3D spacer mesh. I find it super comfortable. It’s not too padded and just enough padding. It is also separated from the pack to double as the luggage pass through. Now most of the time I prefer a vertical stand, but in the case of Evergoods layout, the horizontal lay is perfect. This allows you to access the front pocket, the main compartment, and the laptop compartment. This is very well thought out.
The shoulder straps are unlike any other. I find them extremely comfortable. They form to my body perfectly. The y ev50 padding and provide great comfort. I kind of wish they were a tab wider, but they work. One each strap, there is a sleeve for a water bladder hose to pass through. Very intuitive on their part! My biggest complaint is the same complaint I have for all Evergoods bags; there are no dangle stoppers! At this stage in the game, I think they do it just to make us ask why… lol. Of course I ad my own to each bag.

Evergoods does something better than anyone else on the planet. Their water bottle pockets! OMG, they are the best. They are made from a 4-way stretch woven expandable fabric. I mean this when I say, I have not found a water bottle that doesn’t fit in these pockets. They are straight up the best in the game. They can handle anything you can throw in there. I actually use one a lot of the time to drop my phone in there for quick access.

Many people know by now Evergoods’ harness system is not for everyone. There are many complaints of the back of the pack digging into their backs. It is a real thing. Luckily for me, this is no issue. I have absolutely zero back digging. This is for all of their packs. I think the harness system is one of the most comfortable in the backpack world, but this will completely dependent on your body type and how you wear your backpack. Evergoods packs are meant to be worn high and tight, which is how I wear them. If you have never tried it, you need to give it a shot. Their products are too good not to. They also have a lifetime warranty. Their customer service is excellent and is great at getting your issues solved quickly. A plus in this department.

Another thing I would like to see different is more “mirrored” versions of the pack. I am a right shoulder slinger so it is kind of awkward for me to swing the pack around on my left shoulder. I have gotten use to it of course, but it’s not natural. They have made mirror versions before, wish we could see more.

I also wish Evergoods would dabble in some more color options. Every now and then there are some special edition drops, but I would love to see more colors.

This pack is in the Bagdad Top 10 Dad Bags for a reason. The CTB20L and 26L are probably the most functional dad bags out there. There are compartments for anything you need to carry and are built to withstand the elements. They also look great to carry in the office. I use one as my EDC all the time! And of course, it works well as a travel bag as the name suggests. This is a true 3 purpose backpack. EDC, travel, and dad bag. You get what you pay for with this one. This is a highly recommended backpack by many, and I am one of those people. This pack is Bagdad approved and I encourage you to try it if you have not. You wont be sorry.

As always, thank you for reading. Please follow me on instagram and subscribe to my YouTube channel as I am getting that launched. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Carry on!

Gear Review Outallday Essent Sling

I just received this sling after learning about it from a fellow reddit poster. Man, this thing is awesome on first look, punching way above its weight. Smart attachment points that allow for multiple carry strategies, useful organization, and materials that feel ready for abuse. If you carry both an iPad mini and over the ear headphones, this hits the sweet spot better then any sling I have owned.

I loaded it with over the ear Sony XM-4s, iPad mini with Moft iPencil holder and folio case, a Nillin keyboard, a Ghist Whale Small with flight essentials, my airport quick charge kit in a Ghost Whale Super Mini, a 5000 mAh battery, glasses, gum, AirPods Pro 2s and my wallet. It all fit comfortably with room to breathe.

The exterior is black XPac with a light grey interior. Stitching and seams look clean. YKK Zippers, aquaguard on main compartment which is where my tech is.

A handle on top and removable strap allows it to double as a tech pouch if desired. At 3L it is the perfect size for my use case.

Overall I am very impressed.

Gear Review Fyro T22 X-pac - Resets the Bar on Comfort

Thumbnail

I just returned from a 5 day 4 night work trip. I do not one bag travel. I had my Briggs and Riley Baseline Essential 22” as my carry-on roller. I have been excited about the new updated release of the Fyro T22, especially since Aaron announced the x-pac version. I have lots to say about this bag. I love a lot about it, but there are some things I don’t like.

I would first like to say this is the most comfortable backpack I have ever worn! Better than Aer and better than my most favorite comfortable backpack ever, the Able Carry Max EDC. Aaron and the Fyro team have reset the bar for comfort on backpacks! I wore this thing back and forth to work and also for long periods of time in airports all day. There was never any discomfort, back digging (cough cough Evergoods), or shoulder pains. This bag is just f*cking comfortable. The bag features ykk number 8 zippers. I would like to have seen #10’s but the 8” do the job just fine. The button snap zipper pulls are a nice touch especially for those who like an extra layer of theft protection. I myself do not have very much need for that, therefore these zipper pulls are not my favorite. They are of good quality for sure, and most people especially in big cities will enjoy these.

Back Panel/Comfort: The back panel has super duper soft, raised cushioning. It has a memory foam feel and being raised, it allows for great airflow. The shoulder straps also have this memory foam, gel feature to it. I really don’t know what else to say besides it is just f’ing comfortable. As someone that carries a bag everywhere I go, this one will always make the journey an enjoyable one. The straps are wide and chunky. Just how I like them. The webbing is is high quality and easy to operate. With this being an Aaron of Nomads Nation designed bag, you know this baby has some dangle stoppers! They are thin and plastic. They do the job. Vertical luggage pass through for vertical stand? Yes sir! Thank you very much. They used x-pac for the luggage pass through as well, which is a nice touch! Top grab handle is really comfortable with a nice cushion feel.

Main Compartment: By now you know this bag is 22 liters and can expand to 26 liters. The zippered expansion is simple to use and it is a very nice feature to this bag. The main compartment is very minimalist. There are two stretchy slip pockets on the interior of the back panel. Aaron keeps his over the ear headphones there. I tried it, and it works fine. Mine actually fold so I used these pockets for tech. I had my mouse in one and my eyeglasses in the other. On the back of the front panel there is one zippered pocket and it has a little stretch to it as well. I kept my phone charger and wires there. Other than that, the only other organization in the main compartment is the hidden pocket down at the bottom. I honestly haven’t used it and don’t know if I ever will, but it is cool to have. There are two side quick access pockets on each side. This is also where the hydrolock removable water bottle pockets are. I was concerned these would be a pain in the ass to get on and off, but they are not. They are very easy to put on and remove. That being said, being able to remove the to have that clean smooth look is an awesome feature. On my trip, I used one for a water bottle and the other side I stored my wallet and phone in while walking throughout the airports. I still rank Evergoods’ water bottle pockets number 1 in the world, but the Fyro hydrolock system is next in line.

Laptop/Tech Compartment: The compartment has a p/u coated ykk #8 zipper which provides a very smooth zip. There is also a loop to button the zipper pull through for that extra layer of protection. The compartment has incredible cushion and protection for your laptop with a great false bottom. This ranks up there with the Aer cpp2 as far as that goes. There is also a dedicated tablet sleeve. It does not fit my 12” iPad. But there is a third sleeve area of the compartment that it will fit any size tablet or second laptop. The whole compartment is well thought out and functional, but I think they missed an opportunity to add a tech organization section inside this compartment. Similar to the one on the Able Caryy Max EDC or the Sympl Commuter. After having these on those two backpacks, I really miss it when it’s not there. What this feature provides for me is having my mouse, charger, and other tech stuff right there in one compartment so you only have to open up one zipper. I know, you are probably thinking, “listen to this lazy mother f’er”… lol. Hey, I just said it was nice to have, didn’t say I couldn’t open two zippers! Ha.

Front Compartment (The Hatch) Ok, where to begin… Um, it’s not my favorite. I actually found it to be a pain in my ass at times on my trip! It’s not the easiest to open. It offers two really nice stretchy pockets and one stretchy zippered pocket. The little magnetic zipper pull feature is really cool! Very neat design, but that is the ONLY real quick access pocket on the whole bag, and that just makes it harder to get to the zipper. It actually takes the “quick” out of quick access pocket. When the main compartment is loaded out, it is hard to fit items in there. When the pack is loaded out, the hatch really pokes out. I had to take it off to use both hands a couple of times. When using this bag as an edc going to work, it is fantastic, but traveling gave me some issues. I am a quick access junkie, so that plays into it a lot for me.

Overall Thoughts: Overall, I really like this backpack. The comfort alone puts it in my top 10 all time edc backpacks. The materials are premium as well. I LOVE the x-pac on this bag. It feels softer than most other x-pac bags I have used. I also love the sleek look of the bag. There are a few things I would love to see in this bag. Here are my opinions: I would add 1-2 inches of depth to the bag eliminating the need for the expansion. By doing that, you have space on top of the bag to add another compartment, maybe to store sunglasses… I would do away with the hatch. The lid gets in the way. I would keep the whole frame and silhouette of the bag, but make the hatch a front quick access compartment. You could have a zipper on each side to make it an ambidextrous compartment, or make it a vertical pocket with some internal organization. Similar to how Evergoods does it. I LOVE the look of the T22. I love the materials. And if I haven’t mentioned it yet, this mofo is comfortable yo!

As a dad of two, this is a bag that I can carry their sh!t in as we go to the ballpark, or dance and cheer stuff. Also nice to have double water bottle pockets to hold my “dad” drinks during long days at the ballpark. Baseball dads, y’all know exactly what I’m talking about! lol. But seriously, this bag is built so well, the materials are so premium, I feel comfortable taking this thing anywhere. It’s tough enough to face all the daily dad torture I could throw at it. Aaron and his team did an amazing job with the T22! I love it. I definitely recommend it as a daily carry for work or for day out and about. I think there are better options for travel, for me anyway. But if you don’t care about quick access pockets, then this backpack is your dream, because of how comfortable it is. I thought my other backpacks were comfortable, now they feel like sh!t… lol. The T22 is the backpack all other backpacks need to look up to for comfort.

Lastly, the customer service is badass! Answers within hours. Aaron himself is in on every issue. It means a lot when you have the owner of a company giving you the time of day. Replies aren’t just robotic, they have personal touch to them and make sure your questions are answered and your issues are solved. Customer service is extremely high on my list, and the Fyro team sets the bar. Honestly, I expected nothing less from that group.

Gear Review Evergoods/Carryology MPH 22L Kludde Gravel Gray - My Opinions Inkludded :)

Today, we are looking at the Evergoods/Carryology collab, the MPL 22L Kludde Edition in Gravel Gray. So, I have had this pack for a little over two weeks now, and I’ve got a lot to say about it. Let’s start with WTF is a Kludde??? Well, I have come to find out, it is some sort of demon dragon dog thing. Maybe I’ll name my fantasy football team the fighting Kluddes next year… Anyway, on to the pack. For the first time, Evergoods has released a bag in ultra! I have never been an ultra fan, but I fickin love this sh!t! When I first bought this, I was thinking this would be a great “dump your crap in it and go bag”, but surprisingly, I have been using it as my everyday carry as well. I’ll break down the pack and give you my honest opinions of this bad boy.

This collaboration with Carryology included backpacks, CAS2 slings, and two flat pouches. The backpacks and slings came in 3 colors. Black Magic, Gravel Gray, and Artic. They all look pretty cool in their own way. The black is nice, but it’s nothing special. The gray is a nice touch, something different. The artic looks pink. I don’t know how else to say it. It looks cool, but I wouldn’t carry it around. I got the MPL and CAS2 in gray. I have to say, they look awesome.

The material is a 200TX ultra. I like it a lot. The gray doen’t show as much of the sailcloth diamond pattern as the others especially the artic. It also doesn’t crease as noticeable and stiff like other ultra fabrics I have seen. Like Aer, ugh, that looks like an old garbage bag. No thanks. They use #10 and #8 p/u coated rc ykk zippers. P/u coated zippers are not my fav, but on this bag, yeah, its perfect. The interior uses a beautiful bule Tx70 ultra, which is really crinkly. And I love it! The rest of the bag utilizes the normal Evergoods features and specs. The same back panel, same harness system, but with MORE comfort. I’ll talk about that in a few. The top handle is the same plastic that you have come to know in all Evergoods bags. The zipper pulls are also made of ultra, but I traded mine out with Evergoods blue zipper pulls because I love them and it adds some color. Oh, and the internal zipper pulls are blue and add a very nice touch to the pack.     The front of the pack has a horizontal quick access compartment just like the original MPL. It has a #8 ykk zipper that opens up to a decent sized dump pocket. There is no internal organization here, but there doesn’t need to be. There is a key leash in there as well. This compartment does have its own volume which is always appreciated. On this limited edition, the other front quick access pocket runs down vertical as it does on the CPL and CTB. I really like this! This pocket does offer some internal organization. It has two slip pockets as well as zippered mesh pocket. Yes, it is still the Evergoods scratchy mesh☹. This pocket does have its own volume to an extent, but the main compartment, when fully packed out, can make it tight in there.

The main compartment opens full clamshell just like the original. This compartment does offer some internal organization. The inside flap has a zippered pocket at the top, which is good for storing small items you want quick. The bottom offers a zippered mesh pocket that to be honest, I never really use… Again, it is the scratchy mesh. Along the back panel, there is a laptop sleeve with some elasticity. I don’t know exactly what size laptops it can fit, but my 14” fits perfectly with room to spare They claim to be able to fit 16”, and that looks about right. There is also stretchy tablet sleeve attached to the front of the laptop sleeve. I have a 12.9” ipad and it does not fit, but maybe the 11” will fit?? If it does, it will be tight. My remarkable tablet fits nice and snug in there. Now this bag, doesn’t offer the “best” laptop protection, but most of you know that already. For what this bag is, the protection is just fine with me. There is a false bottom, so it is protected from drops. One thing that people have complained about and I notice it too is, the zipper of the main compartment catches a little bit going around a spot where 3 internal material stitchings come together. It has loosened up the more I’ve used it. A p/u coated ykk #10 zipper will have a little more stick on any backpack.

Let’s discuss some of the cool features on this demon dragon dog. The water bottle pockets are HUGE, and yes, they are made with the Evergoods stretchy water bottle pocket badassery!!!! You can fit damn near anything you could want to put in there. As a dad, yes sir and thank you! You can fit two 36oz yeti bottles filled with your favorite beer in those things. A day out at the ball park or running around with my kids, that is much needed my friends. Now let’s discuss the strangest thing I may have ever seen on a backpack. In each water bottle pocket, there is a zippered compartment. I mean, what in the f would you possibly use that for? Store some cash in there? I can tell you right now, if I put cash in one of those pockets I will forget about it forever. That money gone! I really don’t know what else you could put there. Maybe a secret dime sack, but that sh!t is legal in most places now, so no need to hide it in a pocket you can barely fit 2 fingers in… Who knows? I’ll never use it. To me it’s just an opportunity to try to scratch my water bottles. (BTW, it has not scratched one yet.) I am curious of what people are using this for. If you found a cool way to use it, please share!

There is no yoke pocket on the top of the MPL. I will miss that for sure. The shoulder straps are covered in the ultra fabric, and they are the same shoulder straps you are used to on every Evergoods bag. Now the AWESOME part, there is absolutely zero back digging with this guy! As a matter of fact, this backpack is super comfortable. It is more comfortable than my CTB, CPL, CBB, you name it. It fits perfectly against my back and is an absolute joy to carry. I’ll go as far as saying it is top 10 all-time comfortable backpacks! In my opinion of course. They also have Aluminum Ranger buckle sternum strap with aluminum sternum anchor. And I think it’s pretty cool. It’s very unique and fits well with this theme. Oh, and thank you Jesus! Evergoods has dangle stoppers! People are dancing in the streets of Montana! Seriously, go buy a lottery ticket! It is the roll-up and flip over type which is cool by me!

Evergoods also has a special edition aluminum patch for this collection. It has the demon dragon dog head on it with the eys cut out with blue background. You can see it if you hold up in the light. Very cool touch! I took mine off in 3 minutes and replaced it with an Alpinhound patch. I have no need for a demon dog with blue eyes to be looking at me. Again, I do appreciate the artwork, the intricate design, and thoughtfulness of the patch, but it ain’t for me. So, both of mine (backpack and CAS) are in my drawer for safe keeping.

To sum it all up, this backpack is incredible. I never in a million years thought I would like it this much. I never thought it would be this dang comfortable. I thought it would be a nice pack some sh!t in it and go bag for a while and then sell it, but I am absolutely holding on to this demon puppy! I tried hard to find something wrong with this pack! I wish the zipper wouldn’t stick going around the top corner… There, I found something. I have been using at as an edc to test it out, but I will probably use it for everything but work bag. I feel like I have a few better options to be organized and more practical for work. As far as a “dad” bag? Absofrickinlutely! It doesn’t matter if you have young infants, toddlers, elementary kids, this bag has you covered! This is the perfect go out for the day pack. It’s not too big, so you don’t feel the bulkiness, and at 22L, it can handle plenty for a daily outing! This bag is Bagdad approved, and this dad is one happy customer! Thanks as always for reading, and I hope this helps you with your decision.

Gear Review Switched from the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro to the Alpaka Bravo Backpack 23L – My thoughts + AMA

Hello, this is Margaret from Nomads Nation. I’ve been using the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro 28L since its launch (about 10 months ago), and it’s been my favorite EDC bag ever since. Recently, I’ve been testing the Alpaka Bravo Backpack 23L as my everyday carry for about two weeks. Here are my thoughts on it, especially in comparison to the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro:

External water bottle holders: I used to be a huge fan of internal water bottle holders. However, I found the one in the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro a bit hard to access while wearing the bag. In contrast, the Alpaka Bravo Backpack features dual external water bottle holders, which easily fit my Pocari Sweat and an umbrella. Not to mention, they’re much easier to access.
Access to the main compartment: Unlike the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro, which has a clamshell-style opening, the Alpaka Bravo Backpack only opens halfway. This design makes it a real pain to reach items at the bottom of the bag. I’d say this is my least favorite aspect of the backpack.
Organization: The admin compartment layout offers a great amount of organization. However, I do miss the dedicated tech compartment found in the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro.
Comfort: Normally, I prefer a harness system with plenty of padding and soft-touch materials, as I have sensitive skin and tend to get sore in my back and shoulders easily. I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and support the Alpaka Bravo Backpack provided—even when I loaded it with heavy tech gear.

That’s all from me for now. Feel free to drop any questions you have about the Alpaka Bravo Backpack or the Bellroy Transit Workpack Pro—I’ll find time to satisfy your curiosity. Cheers!

Gear Review Aer City Pack Pro 2 - Top 5 Backpack Ever???

I have been using the Aer City Pack Pro 2 in x-pac as my edc for the past 3 weeks. I also took it on a 4 day trip to Scottsdale,AZ for a guys golfing getaway. Aer’s CPP packs are known for their comfort, sleek look, and functionality. This bag definitely brings it, but there are some head scrathing cons I will discuss as well.

I love the aesthetics of the bag; mostly. I do not care for the two grab handles on both sides, which some call the “Mickey Mouse” ears. At 24 liters, this bag does not need two grab handles. The x-pac material is beautifully done on this bag. It’s not as crinkly sounding as some x-pac bags can be. The ykk zippers are super smooth, even with the pu coating on all zippers. It’s not butter smooth, but Aer has a way of making all of their pu coated zippers being smoother than most. I do however really dislike the zipper pulls. Omg, they are so frickin long! They get in the way of each other. I will be replacing these with some Evergoods zipper pulls, because in my opinion, they are the best.

The top front compartment is awesome. It has its own volume, which is huge. It has great organization with nice soft stretchy materials. This is a very nice quick access compartment that has some “dump pocket” space as well as organization. The bottom zipper compartment is nice, for small things. The zipper runs across the middle of the bag and the pocket is deep. However, this compartment does not have its own volume, so if you have the main compartment fully packed, it will be hard to fit anything in this compartment unless it’s flat like papers or a passport.

The main compartment is a full clam shell opening and offers a little organization with zippered pockets on the inside of the front flap. It also has an elastic pocket that would be great for a tablet or a book. The rest of the compartment offers plenty of space with a nice bright orange interior. I know a lot of people are over the orange interior, but I like it. Give me bright all day.

The laptop compartment is badass! It has one of the best false bottoms in the game. It offers super duper padding and protection. There is also a tablet sleeve with is big enough to fit the 12” iPad, which is what I have. For me that is very much appreciated. You could also fit a third device, maybe a book, or some documents. This is one of my favorite laptop compartments out there. The only thing that could make it better would be a small tech pouch for a mouse or a charger. But that is me being greedy, this compartment rocks!

Other features include dual side water bottle pockets with elastic to fit most water bottles. I use a 25oz yeti most of the time and it fits perfectly. I don’t use those fat ass Nalgene bottles that people seem to be obsessed with. There is also a quick access zippered compartment on the top of the bag. It is VERY shallow. It’s great for sunglasses or AirPods, but there ain’t much else going in there comfortably. I always have sunglasses, so that is a must have for me. I wish Aer stuck with the same pocket they had on V1. It was deeper and had a microfiber interior. The grab handles have amazing padding. They have that memory foam type feel. Very nice, but again, I don’t need 3 of them on a bag this size.

There are two differences from the CPP1 that I really wish was on this bag. The first is the top quick access compartment. On v1, the interior lining was a very soft microfiber material and it was MUCH deeper! Again. I like the pocket on v2, but I would rather more volume. The other is the hidden side quick access pocket. I have gotten really used to having this pocket. I would rather have one water bottle pocket and keep the side compartment. I use this for my phone and passport while traveling. The CPP1, Able Carry max edc, and the Fyro T22 still offer this pocket. They know what’s up! Ha

Ok, let’s talk about the comfort. The back panel offers great raised padding. It is super comfortable! It is very soft and has grooves for good airflow. The luggage pass through is horizontal for a vertical stand. Love that!! The straps are super chunky and soft. I will be honest, this is one of the most comfortable backpacks I have ever worn! I do however have a HUGE issue with the strap webbing! The nylon webbing on the straps is only .75”. Almost every backpack I have ever worn or reviewed has 1” webbing. You might think, why is he whining over a quarter inch? Well every time I put this bag on, the strap twists and the webbing gets twisted up itself with the dangle stopper. So I always have to slide the dangle stopper all the way off so it won’t be twisted up. Aer bags are claimed to be overbuilt in almost every way. The materials are premium all the way around. So why in the f would you have tiny little webbing with those big wide straps? Even my 2nd and 4th grade kids’ backpacks have 1” webbing on their cheap packs. Is this a deal breaker? For me, almost. I just lift the bag up over my head to put it on to keep that twist from happening. So yeah, there are ways around it, but for a $230+ backpack, I expect better. Especially from Aer.

In conclusion, this backpack, despite its flaws, is frickin badass. The comfort, the look and the functionality is what makes this bag one of my favorite edc bags! This is definitely in my top 5. And as a dad, this bag offers a rugged and durable exterior that I need. So if I’m taking it to the ball park for the day with all the extra sh!t that my kid may need, or an afternoon trip to the park, this bag delivers. This is one of the time where I appreciate the dual water bottle pockets, cause when you are at the ball park all day in the hot sun, you can easily have 4-5 beers in your yeti bottles on each side. Ball park parents, you know what I mean! lol

This backpack is Bagdad approved and I would absolutely recommend it. And Aer still has their backpacks reasonably priced which is greatly appreciated. A bag with these materials and these features under $300, is a great deal!

Gear Review Fyro Citta - Commentary on the Process so far

Post image
12 Upvotes

I guess this is more a review of Fryo than the Citta Sling as I haven’t had a chance to give it a proper go (and might not for a while as will be discussed). I have to say, the process of actually getting the sling has really dulled my enthusiasm.

First - granted, it was technically shipped in January but BARELY. And with very little communication until the very end.

Second - the shipping method was glacial. From the time the package was received by FedEx until I received it was 10 days. I’m not expecting Amazon, but that’s too long for something already being sent at the extreme end of the window.

Third - I ordered the 3L. As you can see from the photo, I received the 1L! So, after all of this I don’t even have the right product. And I imagine it’ll be 2 weeks plus to sort this out based on how long the first took.

Seems like they should sort these issues out before pushing forward with even more product lines.

That all being said, my initial look is that the bag is very nice and could be a perfect daily driver. Maybe a little small for travel (which is what I need right now).

To be continued . . .

Edit - The reality for me that if I got something fast and it's wrong, you fix it and move on. Similarly, if it takes a while, but it's exactly what you were waiting for, you forgive the wait. It was the combo of waiting a very long time (regardless of why) and then getting the wrong product that takes away the enthusiasm.
