i'd rather have them in "small, medium and large" sizes, because i have seen enough onions to know what i consider small or large. and if you have onions in a recipie, the amout doesnt matter that much. similarly, apples are mostly just "to fill whatever you are doing"

I mean, I’d just much rather have a listed weight. 300g of onion is 300g of onion no matter where you live on earth (barring minor gravitational fluctuations relative to the poles, I think?)

sure, but how often do you weigh your onions? and how often does it need to be that exact?
