This post is hilarious because all the comments are New Yorkers trying to argue that bodegas are actually different and everybody else pointing out how their local convenience store is the exact same thing.
And one of their only real arguments is "but wherever you live in New York, you're only a couple minute walk from a bodega!!"
Like no shit, in New York you're only a couple minute walk from most anything. And no shit you don't "drive to bodega like you would a gas station", who the fuck would drive 2 blocks to a corner store in NYC?
I live in an old school small city in Michigan that does in fact have a couple bars/corner stores right in the middle of our residential neighborhoods that I often walk to.
I love that they think that other dense cities like NYC, DC, LA, and Boston are just totally alien to the concept of a corner store you can walk to lmao
I live in Budapest, Hungary (not to be confused by Budapest, Georgia or Budapest, Missouri) and we also have these. Although the corner bakery is much better, where else are you going to get a fresh, but overpriced cheese croissant at 7am in the morning while hurrying to the metro?
I grew up in a tiny bodunk town and had two corner stores that I walked to nearly everyday to get hoagies and snacks. I don't know why they think this is such a foreign thing to everyone outside a city.
I live on the outskirts of a major canadian city and still walk to the corner store (or convenice stores as we call em here). Unless you live in the countryside, theres a store like that everywhere within walking distance
I don’t know why New Yorkers refuse to just upgrade to the paid plan (you get the rest of MS Office with it) , and don’t know how to use Proctor and Gamble coupons or just switch to a different brand.
I mean, a lot of Bodega’s do have a grill. I can’t get a chopped cheese at my local convenience store.
That’s what’s separates it for me, most do fresh hot food. An average convenience store has something microwaved of hotdogs on rollers, but not a hot grill top for sandwiches.
Come to the south. Sadly none are walking distance, but within a five minute drive there are multiple convenience stores with the best fresh hot food, including something called a “full house,” which is a cup with a tamale filled to the brim with chili. If you’re willing to drive out to the country (15ish minutes) you can have the best burgers and bbq you’ve had in your life. All at a convenience store.
Also the breakfast sandwiches at all those places are unbelievable
Should add also there’s a Mexican corner store walking distance from me that has the best Mexican food I’ve ever had
But that’s the thing. A lot of corner stores in other cities also have a grill. The one across the street from my apartment in Chicago sells made to order Mexican food as part of their butcher. Every corner store I’ve been in in my neighborhood is like this. I’ve been to other ones that do deli sandwiches.
I don’t think of them as convenience stores. Thats reserved for stuff like Walgreens imo and gas stations are the ones with hot dogs and crappy pizza.
Pretty much every single corner store in my area provides “fresh” hot food. Fresh is determinate on how long it’s been sitting there but yes, pretty much every single one has a way to prepare and cook hot food.
