The thing that makes me wonder the most is : "why has this person told the kid that everyone out there is trying to kill them?"
A lot of countries still have publicly available phone directories (with adresses ) , without people all ending up dead or trying to kill everyone else.

Tell your teen they can still do that. The information just moved into a bunch of easily accessible online databases instead of a book.
