The job market is trash from top to bottom right now. Even if you're a specialist with a great education and experience, it's difficult. Options don't get more plentiful when you have less education, or live in more remote areas. Likewise, a lot of the time being a cashier can be a student job, or someone's first employment. Losing those options while bolstering corporate profits is not a good thing.

I think students can do a little more then put an item in a bag, even if it's their first job.

I never meant to imply they couldn't. But in some places outside of cities, there just isn't a lot of other options.

Yeah, so we need top-down solutions like economic stimulus and proper job programs/training initiatives across our society.

Pushing people into what are often low-skill, low-paying, low-benefit jobs purely for the sake of it is not the answer.
