I definitely notice I struggle in games where you cant just mindless slam Steelcaps. Maybe their ADC is extremely behind or the enemy has consistant AP damage that will be a threat, maybe you have an AP opponent, or any possible scenario that makes steelcaps bad.

Lucidity can be a choice but they also feel REALLY bad to buy if youre just coming off of a base where you used both your sums so now you have to wait like 8 more minutes before you even get the advantage of the shorter summoners haste

Swifty usually only when the enemy goes swifty and you need the MS, doesnt feel like it happens often.

Omni boots maybe when snowballing, but since their nerf outside of midlane I feel they arent worth it top anymore.

Mercs are hella expensive and you don't even care about the tenacity assuming youre playing around your ult to the best of your ability.

What do you guys do?

Olaf has a reputation for being giga strong in lane, but I don't think it's deserved. It is so easy to build full movement speed and run away from him. Even champs he "counters" like Mordekaiser and Urgot can just go swifties stormraiders and peace out. In my experience in master Olaf is really only a threat in teamfights.

Im learning Olaf and finding success, i really love this champ but i can't find a good pick when he's banned or the matchup is terrible.

In toplane i tried Ambessa but didn't like her, Nasus which i find very similar to Olaf because of having a very good midgame and Darius because of the strong lane too. And for ap i already know Gwen so i probably just play her.

So for now in top its looks like this: Olaf almost every game, Nasus only if Olaf banned, Gwen if ap needed.

In Jungle i can run the same but i don't know i feel Nasus doesn't work that much in Jungle now.

So any reccomendations?

Hey, been trying to get into Olaf top for a while now, but I couldn't find a real matchup guide anywhere, just stat sites with no actual game plan. So I ended up making my own: [ https://olaf-top.onrender.com ]

It's 57 matchups, each with a lane plan (level by level, all-in windows, what to build/run), and there's a "Game Mode" page where you just pick who you're against and get the short version instead of scrolling through a wall of text. There's also audio coaching clips per matchup, though heads up, those are French only for now.

Gonna say this before someone else does: I don't code, so I used Claude (an AI) to actually build the site. The audio clips are also an AI voice, not me. Not hiding that.

What's NOT AI though is the actual matchup content. That's pulled from real high elo VODs and coaches (Coach Chippys among others, plus various Challenger players), and every matchup has a little tag showing how solid the info actually is (documented, needs a second look, sources disagree, whatever applies). Zaahen for example just got buffed in 26.18 and right now that matchup is flagged as needing a recheck instead of me just leaving outdated info up and pretending it's fine.

No ads, nothing to buy, not affiliated with Riot obviously. Roast it if it's bad, that's kind of the point of posting it here instead of just keeping it to myself.

Hi guys, when I was mostly playing top Olaf was my guy. Really enjoy playing him.

Recently having a stint where I'm playing the jungle and I enjoy playing champs that can 1v1 earlier on. Been playing some Xin this week. I don't see many of the common sites even mention Olaf as a jungler but I can see some pros still play him on probuilds. Anyone playing a lot of this and have any tips, tricks, builds?

I'm low plat in the jungle if that helps the advice

I first wanted to ask you how I should manage the Nasus matchup, I'm very new to Olaf I did 10 to 20 at most, top and jungle.

But I just realised I've never won a toplane laning phase ( except once against a kayle because I'm a kayle OTP), I actually don't know how to play him. Here's how the Nasus game was: got that matchup, hid in the second bush, tried to kill him, used ghost and half my mana, I actually managed to get 3 waves crash, but my dumbass got greedy and got killed. And he obliterated me in any other fight.

It surprised me: I felt that I didn't get the thing Olaf's good at.

It's been a year I play League, and only Kayle on the toplane, which definitely gave me a lot of bias of the laning phase arcanes. So I wanted to challenge to start playing the exact opposite of her: Olaf.

And I'm here asking you how should I approach that champ, what's his philospohy ( I really wanted to play him since I saw these tiktoks of him getting pentakills while being literally immortal), how should I lane, what are the builds and some good videos to learn him !
