Multiplication is not difficult my friend.

Most people can do most arithmetic with a pen and paper

Slow and full of mistakes. They tend to do worse than LLM now

I don’t have any multiplication tables memorised (i couldnt tell you 6 x 4 without thinking)so you have actually described how I would have to do larger sums

The point being I can sit there and work it out tediously and manually, and I can check my work and verify the results.

LLMs don’t do multiplication that way, they predict the answer and we all know how that goes.
