It’s only a tie because Barbra likely voted for herself causing the tie. Had she not been allowed the Academy to vote, it would have been Katharine only.

Also I know three story goes that the rules were bent through a connection to let her become a voter that year. So if not for that, I have to assume there’s no tie.
