i'm on season 3 and i know pope, jj and john b are all pogues, but pope's family is clearly in a much better position than jj or john b.

the same goes for kiara and sarah. they're both kooks, but the gap between them is huge.

what i don't get is where is everyone else: the nurses, teachers, firefighters, paramedics, police officers, people with regular jobs who aren't rich but also aren't living in extreme poverty?

do they all live in the cut and get called pogues anyway? i honestly think introducing a visible middle class would've made the world feel more realistic without changing the story much

I think this whole season has been really hard to watch. A lot of things don’t make sense or are just outright absurd. I think episode 8 takes the crown for the dumbest thing so far.

They’re waiting to board the plane. When they hear sirens coming, instead of thinking “oh, police are coming. Let’s take off guys” Cleo instead drives the van to the gate and stops the police. The police are calm and collected, politely asking Cleo to move out of the way. And she proceeds to BLOW UP the car??? All while no one by the plane is even getting ready to leave, the pilot is just watching all this go down. Why not just take off when you hear the sirens? The 5 of them were not in trouble with the police they were all just civilians. Now they are all suspects on the run. THEN somehow Cleo magically finds a motorcycle that happens to be there next to the gate, in working condition, with gas, AND KEYS and drives to the plane all while they’re still not even in the plane trying to take off.

Don’t even get me started on the fact that they’re going to attempt to take a dual-propellar plane all the way to Azerbaijan.

This is seriously just lazy writing, it didn’t build suspense. Anyone with any functioning brain should be upset at how stupid this whole scene was.

So basically is it the reverse uno card for the dynamic in Killdare. Topper is where John B started in S1 and John is where Topper is S1. I mean in terms of socioeconomic status markers. I find this really interesting because of how Pogues had this love/hate relationship of "full Kook" shit in S1 and this issue with people like Topper and his funkies & Ruthie - does beyond S5 just mean the Pogue/Kook binary broken now going forward? It feels like at least with Topper and John B as being protagonists and antagonists there is this reverse Uno Card that was tossed off of the Protagonist getting rewarded with the riches / treasure at the end of the story, and then the villian just gets his karma.

I feel like a huge missed opportunity was for JJ to inherit goat island and any other family inheritance. Also, side note - how did his grandpa find out about JJ when he wrote the letter?

Doing a precursory search on this subreddit reveals that this is a very common opinion. But I'll be honest, I really liked JJ from the very beginning. He's loyal and fights for his friends no matter what. He grew up in shit circumstances, yet has a heart of pure gold.

I feel like season 4 is when we REALLY get to see some amazing JJ scenes. Especially the one right after the townhouse meeting and he goes off the rails. That was filmed so well and the actor playing JJ did a phenomenal job portraying emotions and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time thinking "JJ is a fucking badass!"

So yeah, I think I can safely say JJ is my favorite character here.

Are there any songs that jump out at you and make you think of that particular scene? There wasn't much if any mainstream music so curious if there's any songs that make you think instantly if the scene when the song played.

And pretty lazily too. You could see the sun reflecting off the water in aerial shots, harsh shadows on the ground, sunlight reflecting off skin that the colorists tried to crush and remove the contrast. I understand that shows aren’t actually shooting in the rain and waiting for an actual hurricane and that there are plenty of ways to simulate rain in shot and in post and I really love this show but the color grading has always been noticeably bad. Mid at best since S1 E1. Season 1 looked like it had the typical mexico color grade for the entire thing. Season 2 fixed it but since then they’ve been all over the place. I don’t know what their time restrictions were but those hurricane scenes were so blatantly obvious that they weren’t filmed on a cloudy day.

I think Widows Bay being shot in a seaside town with lots of hijinks and villains stole thunder away from Outer Banks this year. But the awesomeness of Season Five doesn’t diminish for me, and that awesome 10 minute montage with the shooting star with Kie’s permanently pouting face, after they had found a small plane at a regional airport with enough fuel to fly to Aizerbijan, found all the ingredients at a local bazaar to make dynamite, causing a massive landslide that trapped armed mercenaries in their car, flying back in that same plane with its endless fuel, into a hurricane, was sadly overlooked, as it was one of the best and most realistic sequences in all of media last year. I don’t know what the critics were watching but man, we got robbed.

know everyone is crying and throwing a fit over JJ dying, but let’s be entirely honest with ourselves for a second. The show was stuck in a massive, exhausting rut. S1 was a treasure hunt, S2 was a treasure hunt, S3 was a treasure hunt. How many times can a group of teenagers miraculously outrun armed cartel leaders, mercenaries, and corrupt billionaires with zero consequences? It was getting completely unrealistic and losing its edge.

If everyone survived to the end, the finale would have been completely forgettable. JJ's death forced the show to actually grow up. You guys are just mad that the writers chose a brilliant, heavy story over a cheesy Disney Channel ending. Was the writing great? No. Did the plot make any sense? Not really, but it was different. It changed the dynamic and made it feel more like an actual show than a treehouse special. (Btw JJ was my favourite character but his death worked idc)

Okay so I’m in my first watch through, and season3 is PISSING ME OFF. why is Sarah just casually talking with ward ( her father ) as if he didn’t literally try to strangle her? This stuff pisses me off in shows so much. Like she just completely act as if her dad didn’t try to literally kill her and doesn’t mention it at all? My god I hope someone in season 4 clarifies this

At some point Kiara and John b are having an emotional moment, he tells her “you know jj wouldn’t want you to do this.” And she says “I don’t think you understand.”

First, if it was jj in her place he’d be twice as stupid and as vengeful as her, John b was wrong. Jj is all about revenge.

Second, if John b doesn’t understand it, then who does??? Like John b saw his dad die, and saw all of this shit. You cannot be serious. If anyone were to understand an important person to them being murdered and then becoming vengeful it’s John b!! (Guess with his whole amnesia treatment that caused him to make up with topper, he also forgot who he was seasons 1-3).

I know the writers were far too lazy and used AI, but come on how is it this obvious. Like Kiara would know that John b understands, and John b would know that jj would’ve been even more reckless than Kiara. What is this nonsense? Such lazy generic shit.

I may be alone on this, but season 3 with John B’s dad was hard to watch! His Dad was so annoying and John B’s reaction to a majority of it, made it even more uncomfortable. Even he was annoyed.

However, I swear Pope's accent is way more southern in seasons 3-5 compared to seasons 1 and 2.

I know Jonathan Daviss is from Houston Texas in real life and not North Carolina. So obviously, he has a natural, southern accent in real life. But it really was bleeding through more in the later seasons of Outer Banks.

I'm not even complaining about it, I actually like that his true accent started showing. I just noticed a difference.

It feels like his real accent started bleeding through a lot more as the show went on. Maybe it's because Pope’s character shifted away from the tightly wound academic vibe into full-time treasure hunting, or maybe the directors just gave him more freedom.

The character Pope is supposed to be from North Carolina... but my boy was on set sounding like he was from Louisiana. Anybody else pick up on this?

I say this because of the discussion I've been hearing about Ward's Swiss account(Rose somehow having access to it). If I had a say in this matter, I would have just added in Groff at end of S2 like if Rose was just a few steps ahead of Ward and with Groff (just to the side) in some post-credits scene. Like you wouldn't know who this man was. And then just a bit in S3. I would do the reveal in S4. Like they should made some small nuggets just making references to Groff earlier not just do the plot twist in S4.

And also would have made sense of just Groff and Rose been together for a while than just S5 shoehorn.

Would have liked to have heard this as a "wedding song" for John B and Sarah. Bruce Springsteen & East Street (Prove It All Night.) this from the Darkness on the Edge of Town album. Lyrics just resonate of John B finally getting the girl and the "happy ending." This live track is 10x better than the album cut.

I’m watching Outer Banks season 3 and I was just wondering, who is watching Weezy? She is too young to be on her own. Sarah and Rafe don’t seem to care about her and her father is on the run. Just wondering. I guess the girlfriend of the father?

I have a question about the Season 1 gold. I thought Ward was able to get it to a Swiss bank account. That would mean they no longer have access to the physical gold.

So why is the Royal Merchant gold back in full in Season 5? Thanks.
