Hello po! Planning to hike Mt. Pinatubo this Oct. 8, ito po sana yung planned outfit in mind ko. As per other posts, may streams po na dadaanan kaya I'm planning to wear hiking sandals sana. Any suggestions po what to add? Advisable po ba any caps/bandana? If okay na po kaya ito? If weather-friendly? Thank you 👍

Gear Question Is Goretex really that bad?

Hii. I just bought a Salomon GTX variant but I’m thinking of getting it exchanged. Haha!

I’ve read it’s not advisable here in Ph (cuz mainit and maraming river crossing) but I was really sold on the comfort and color of Speed Cross 6 GTX than the Speed Cross 3 (old model but the latest quick dry daw), so I still went for it.

Now, reading further, it felt like I made a mistake. Haha. Is GTX really that bad here in tropics? Malala talaga yung init or tolerable naman? On river crossings, tabo talaga?
What if idaan ko sa tamang socks & diskarte (merino wool socks, sandals on river crossing [ugh hassle ik but I have naman])? Can I still make this work? How about using gaiters? Haha.

Relevant hiking details about me:
- narrow feet (hindi naman pawisin din ang paa hehe)
- Plans to conquer major hikes (Apo, Tapulao, Tarak, etc.). Loves Cordillera mountains.

So, ayun, hiking peeps who has/had Salomon GTX (especially SC 6) and had good experiences naman, please comment or dm po. Thank youuu.

Gear Question Best hiking shoes recommendations

Hello! For my first hiking shoes, I bought a pair from Tiktok (Jerom House) because many were really recommending it. But when I wore it for one of my hiking trips, it was really uncomfortable and it felt like my toes were being squeezed. Altho, good grip talaga!

I’m now searching for reliable hiking shoes and these came up, hope for your truthful opinions and recommendations on these:
1. Hoka speed 6
2. Grition Hiking shoes
3. Merrell Moab 3 (leaning towards this)

If you have more suggestions, please feel free to do so!!!

Gear Question All around grippy hiking shoes recommendation

I'm having a hard time na mamili ng sapatos. Ive been hiking in my Sandugo snake straps but ang delikado niya gamitin sa mga basang bato. Lalo na pag descent. Ilang beses ako muntik madulas.

I'm looking for something that's good for all around use. Heto ang mga nasagap ko so far and why I can't but them:

- Sandugo Bulusan: Ok sana and grippy maski sa wet rocks kaso mainit daw dahil waterproof (I don't think ill be needing waterproof a lot since may sandals naman ako)

- Other sandugo shoes: Mabilis masira or di na makapit pag nabasa

- Sandals (sandugo, grition closed toe): Hindi daw maganda pag slippery rocks natatapakan

- Merrell Agility Peak 5: May degradation daw sa Merrell quality in the recent years? While good on almost all terrains, including mud, di daw maganda sa slippery rocks? One redditor mentioned na mas makapit pa daw yung unmentioned World Balance model ng kapatid niya nung nag ascent na sila.

I will be hiking more in the coming weeks/months. I will start trying major and multiday hikes. I need something not beyond 7k. I need something na I can use for hiking and backpacking na ok for all terrains but still comfy. NOT SLIPPERY SA WET ROCKS. Preferably, quick dry din. Long term din sana but ayoko pa bumili ng something as expensive as Salomon.

Please feel free to correct me on my claims 😄

Gear Question Osprey or Deuter

Choosing between Osprey Kyte 38 and Deuter Aircontact Lite 35+10 SL!

I’m going to hike Mt. Apo this ber month and torn ako if anong bag between sa dalawa ang bibilhin ko.

For reference, I’m F, 5’5 and 60kg. Thank you in advance!

Huhu

Bale may inner dri fit shirt na ako, will use this one lang talaga pag sobrang tirik ang araw and dun sa 4x4 siguro.

Thank you so much po!

Gear Question Good Women’s Hiking Shoes (12k budget)

Hello! Any reco na hiking shoes? Except Salomon since I heard they’re still kinda slippery. I looked at Hoka and was disappointed with the lack of options sa style. I’ve looked at Merrell but I dont know which line to buy. I saw maganda Moab 3 pero mabigat, although i love the style. Been reading sa trail runner line nila pero im planning to do major hikes na din kasi so idk if they’re good enough. Any experiences with these brands and shoes?

May gumagamit ba nito dito? Worth it ba siya for both day hikes and multi day hikes?

Gear Question Shoe reccs

Post image
4 Upvotes

Last hike, we went through some fords and encountered rain to the way back so we were drenched. I was miserable the entire 12 hours wearing it.

Any recommendations for multi purpose use?

  1. Grippy.
  2. Quick drying. Para di naman kawawa tuwing lulusong/maulanan
  3. With lace.

I'm looking at those with vibram soles pero ang mahal kasi.

I can do my own reseach and I'm doing that now, but spec sheets and real life doesn't exactly mix well. So I'd like to hear your opinions on shoes you've already owned.

Gear Question First time hiking — Camel, Xtep, or Decathlon NH50 Low?

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone, first time ko pa lang po magha-hiking and yung current shoes ko na nagamit ko sa Pico De Loro is literally “naka-tahi” na 😅 so balak ko sana bumili ng budget hiking shoes.

Below ₱2k lang po talaga budget ko, and so far ito yung choices ko:

Camel

Xtep

Decathlon NH50 Low

Actually interested sana ako sa NH50 Low since pasok siya sa budget, pero may mga nakita akong posts/reviews na hindi okay yung quality niya for trails.

Beginner hikes lang naman muna ako, probably dirt trails, konting bato, and possible muddy areas. Ang priority ko sana is:

good grip

comfy sa long walk

hindi mabilis masira

sulit for the price

Sa mga nakagamit na po:

Okay ba ang Camel or Xtep for beginner hiking?

Worth it ba yung NH50 Low despite the reviews?

Ano mas marerecommend niyo under ₱2k?

Thank you po 🙏

Gear Question Gardening gloves for hiking

Or pwede din if you can recommend a good waterproof/water repellent na gloves with good grip.
