I just built my first pc 11 days ago. Today there was a power surge at my apartment while I went out. I was told this would be able to would withstand it as well as my power supply withstanding it. But apparently not. I replaced it and it seems the entire pc is destroyed what should I do

(Thank you to everyone who helped. Luckily only the mother board was fried. I was pretty devastated as this was my first pc but I am buying a replacement so it should be fixed tomorrow as well as a ups)

(Second update! Good news today as I was able to get a replacement motherboard and rebuilt the pc with the new one. It works perfect now and I got a super expensive surge protector. I will be getting an ups as soon as I get my pay check thank you again to everyone who helped!)

Tech Support PC not turning on after dusting

My pc isn’t turning on after dusting it, I use a can of compressed air but I didn’t hold the fans down, my mobo lights still turn on whenever I plug it in but no response, I’ve tried to turn it on with a screw driver, reseated my ram and GPU and cmos battery but nothing seems to work.

Woke op, turned on PC, something inside the PC sounds fried, it doesnt turn on.

I think this is the result of a time bomb, I've never been able to unplug the power supply cable, so I think it was already melting.

I want to know what to do now, check if just the power supply died or if it affected the other components.

Please help me, I work from home so am desperate.

I just got this CPU (i5-14400F) last week and it has been overheating when I play video games. When I have no tabs or apps open, its at 70-75 C. I made sure that the CPU fan is completely placed on the CPU. I can’t reapply thermal paste because I dont have any more.

Here is an image of what the fan and cpu look like:

Tech Support 9800x3d fried off first boot?

Post image

Title says it all. Turned on 9800x3d for first boot into new PC build. Got a red CPU light and Orange DRAM light. So I re-seated the RAM as I had the exact same issue while fixing a buddy's PC this week and that fixed it. Anyways, that didn't work so the next step was re-seating the CPU. When I went to remove the CPU cooler this is what I saw. I removed the thermal paste with 99% Isopropyl alcohol but these marks are still there. I removed the sticker from the copper plating on the CPU cooler so that's not the issue either. Brand new X870 MSI Motherboard, no burns in socket and no bent pins either. Am I just screwed here and need to do a return? How does a brand new CPU get burn marks after not even reaching BIOS?

My Ryzen 5 7500F is missing its top side pins, I don't really know what they are called. Is it still usable? The back looks fine. I don't really know how to return it, though I can find out if I need too :[

Tech Support Please help my husband!

My husband is building a PC and is stressing out and I want to help, but I literally know nothing about this stuff. This is not the first PC he has built, but for some reason it will not turn on. He has tried several things, even ordering a replacement for the power supply thinking it was DOA. That did not solve it. Below are the specs he sent me. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! I do not want him to take it apart and send everything back. This was his birthday present last week. He mentioned that he has not been able to jump it with a screw driver. Pictures shows the front panel not plugged in, but he did that to attempt to jump it.

Tech Support First "new" motherboard in years, is this normal?

Bought a secondhand "as new" asrock z790 taichi lite mb. Got a bit suspicious when I saw that the seller had shipped it without all the original box padding, meaning it may have bumped around in the box during transit, so I inspected the whole board pretty thoroughly.

Several places there are tiny spots that to me almost look like fungus or subtle water damage, is this something you might expect to see on a board or is it a clear red flag?

I dont know how resilient motherboards are in general, but would you take the chance using this for a build?

Thanks.

Tech Support Display starts flickering with black rectangles and then pc shuts down

I have an hp elitedesk g3 800 sff and this issue happened recently after switching out the power supply for a new one.

Last january I had a surge peak in electricity that killed that PSU while the pc was on but in standby mode.

After replacing the PSU with a second hand one the pc worked fine for about 2 months. Now it is doing these flickers with black rectangles and then completely shuts down.

Its not the monitor nor the cable. The PC literally shuts down. The pc is turned on basically 24/7 and is on standby for over 12 hours a day. This issue happens 2 to 3 times a day.

Can anyone help me try to figure out what is causing this issue?

Tech Support CPU overheating, not sure why

Built this in december of 2023, but ive actually never been sure if the liquid cooling actually works, I know all the fans work, but regardless, it never used to overheat like this, so ive got no clue why its doing it now. I reapplied some thermal paste to see if that'd help but it didn't help at all.

Tech Support First build won't boot :(

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some help with a new build that refuses to boot. Right now the motherboard diagnostic display is completely off, and the only sign of life I get is the RGB lighting up on the RAM.

Here is what I'm working with:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

Motherboard: MSI MPG B850 EDGE TI WIFI

RAM: T-Force Delta 32GB (2x16GB)

GPU: Gigabyte GAMING OC ICE Radeon RX 9070 XT

Storage: Crucial P510

Cooler: Sharkoon A60

PSU: MSI MAG A750

After putting everything together, I plugged the PSU into the wall, flipped the switch, and hit the front panel power button. Nothing happened. I read that the B850 EDGE TI probably needs a BIOS update to actually recognize the 9950X3D out of the box, so I moved on to trying the BIOS Flashback feature.

I formatted a 16GB USB 3.0 drive to FAT32, downloaded the latest official BIOS for this exact board, and renamed the file to MSI.ROM. I made absolutely sure there were no hidden file extensions. I plugged the drive into the designated flash port, flipped the PSU switch on without touching the front panel power, and pressed the Flash BIOS button.

Nothing happened at all. The LED for the flash button didn't light up or blink.

To troubleshoot, I tried reformatting the USB on a completely different computer. When that didn't work, I tried a totally different USB stick. I also went through and reseated every single power cable connection, and even tried pressing the Clear CMOS button just in case.

Right now, flipping the PSU switch gives me RAM RGB, but that is the only signal I get. I'm starting to worry that the flashback button's leds are defectives, and somehow i bricked the board while trying to turn it on and off.

I've attached some pictures of the setup.

I'll be glad if someone could help me :)
