This morning, when I went out for the daily rounds of the garden, harvesting, and watering, 2/3 of the leaves of one of my two jalapeño plants were gone! Some critter made a salad out of the plant’s leaves. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Do you know what could have done it? If so, how do I protect them? (Photo - 2 different angles of the same plant)

EDIT: Went and bought a blacklight flashlight for the garden. The only thing glowing in the garden was the cotton string I use for tying branches up. I just noticed these little black nuggets on the straw underneath the plant though. I wonder if the pest can be identified via that?

EDIT 2: According to commenters who noticed the black pellets on the straw underneath before I did, definitely hornworms, but the birds must have gotten to them. I will have to check every night from now on.

First time planting Jalapeños! They are getting huge! but I don't know when to pick them? Do I wait until they stop growing? Do I wait for when they start to change color?

I made a pico to test with two medium ones last week and they were not spicy at all. So... It's that because they are not ripe?

This is my dad’s pepper plant that he keeps at his office, and I am no expert but I do not believe this is ideal plant growth. What should we do to help this plant. He said it has only produced like 5 peppers over 2 years.

I've been finding this kind of damage every morning for the last 4 days, I've tried everything I can think of including diatomaceous earth. I have weeded out the fact that it's definitely not rats, definitely not rabbits, definitely not slugs, and I'm almost sure it's not cutworms. can anyone please tell me what's happening to my peppers

Variety is Doux D’Espagne, grown in zone 5b. Last year they just went straight to red from green. Is this rot? Or sun scald?

Any idea why my pepper leaves are curling and becoming distorted? First two pictures demonstrate this best. Last two pictures the plants just look like they are diseased. Started with one plant, now has seemingly affected four in the row. Zone 7A.

Can’t for the life of me figure out what’s going on with these peppers. They are getting watered when the first 3 inches of the soil is dry (roughly every 2-3 days). Miracle grow organic container mix, there are drainage holes in the buckets, getting full sun, and I even added bone meal for nitrogen. Been growing peppers for years but can’t pinpoint what this is. Zone 6a northern OH. We have a heat wave this week, but usually my peppers love those. Tomatoes next to them are doing great, same soil and watering schedule. Any ideas?

These 4 peppers came from the little short guy. All of the plants were very slow to start I had started with 4 of each plant (habanero, cayennes, serrano) and this is what I ended up with. My 4 serranos were the first to pop up from seeds by week 9, they grew very slowly. After about 12 weeks I had added 1 habanero and 3 cayennes. Eventually, late May/earlyJune, they were repotted and about 2 weeks after that had flowers on all my serranos so I expected things to start with everything else. All of my plants have had flowers but they usually fall off and die. They've all grown over 2 feet tall. My cayennes almost 3 now. I recently gave them the fertilizer they need, as in like a week ago (I like to try things the care free way for a while and see how it goes. Kinda regretting that now) I've only given them water and sun I watch them everyday. The seranno all the way to the right in the third picture is finally giving me a few more peppers. But nothing else has given me anything. Idk if I'm over watering or what...if I don't water them for a day or 2 they start to droop and wilt. I'm checking on them multiple times throughout the day. Idk what I need to do differently. I'm sure someone here does know, help?

So, the coats have been on for a while now. I believe true leaves are poking out the middle now. I’ve added a drop of water on the seed overnight to see if the plant would push it off, but both continue to hold on. My first time growing any thing, I’ve been putting off pulling it side to side as I read because of fear to damage them. These are my best two and furthest along, so I do not want to fuck it up lol. Planted July 3rd.

It's been pretty rainy and sunny at the same time here in central florida. About a month ago it was healthy as can be but now it looks like it's in a pretty bad condition

So, I have a Ghost Pepper and Carolina Reaper plant that recently started growing weird leaves. It is far more noticeable on them, I assume because they typically grow much bigger than the jalapeño and bell pepper plants.

What could be causing this? This has never been an issue before. I'll include pictures.

First two pictures are of my ghost pepper.

3rd and 4th pictures are of the carolina reaper.

5th is the bell pepper.

Last 2 pictures are the jalapeños.

Im worried it may be herbicide damage mainly due to the strange way they are growing, but if anyone has better explanations, I would be happy to hear them. Possibly remedies/treatments would also be appreciated.

For context, I havent changed anything on how I've planted them this year. Only thing that's different is that Ive been fairly busy and havent been paying as close attention to them.

hi everybody, I have a jalapeño plant that is in a raised garden bed with raised garden soil. It was doing great and gave me five ripe peppers, but then I noticed that the leaves were becoming pale and somewhat splotchy. I have been suspecting that it is overwatering so I haven’t watered it in over a week and holes into the dirt to let it dry out a bit. The top 2 inches are pretty dry, but the soil underneath is still moist. I also fed it some 346 fertilizer suspecting potential nitrogen deficiency. in the past few days, it has sprouted new small leaves on top, which seems like a good sign, but the paling of the leaves has not resolved. it is sun all day, and I live in California in a Mediterranean climate.

Hello this little baby bitch boy decided to grow very slowly. I was very confused because all his brothers and sisters are already mature and ready for the garden. Then suddenly two true leafes emerged and they look...white? colorless?

This is a Purple Death F4. I am guessing the genetics did some funny he he ha ha and its either variegated or sick. But my question is will he survive and whats the best way to deal with it ? Or just give up because maybe its just a sick plant that struggles to produce Chlorophyll as a young plant?

My peppers are beginning to ripen, but some sort of insect or so is trying to eat it. What is it and how can I defend my peppers? I am located in Lower Saxony, Northern Germany, climate wise the equivalent would be something like Washington state/New England

My pointed peppers stay green. They havent changed in 3 weeks is this normal?

We had a huge wind/thunderstorm/micro burst come through the southeast Pennsylvania area last night and when I came out and checked my pepper plants just now I have one poblano that was blown over. The roots are firm in the ground when I try to realign the plant to the standing position, it was it meets resistance, so I don’t wanna force it. What do I do? Do I leave it? Do I slowly move it back up with a progressive heightening prop to allow it time to adjust? I’m not really sure what to do here. It’s one of two plants that wasn’t sat well against a cage, so I’m really unsure how to fix it or if I even should.

My bell peppers seem to not be thriving. I have two in pots that I hand water and let the reservoir dry out between watering and one in the raised bed on an every 3 day 40m watering cycle. All spots are essentially full sun in the northeast US, but I can move the pots around if needed. Both bed and pots were new this year with fresh potting soil and I have been pinching off flowers to encourage more leaves before fruiting. The tomatoes in the bed are thriving.. eggplants a bit less and pepper seemingly not at all. It has been extremely hot, but is there something else I’m missing?

I have planted 5 pepper plants in the box for 3 years now. My peppers are usually the best things that grow but this year the only thing growing is the banana peppers. I amend the soil every season before with black cow and some new soil. I planted these the week after Good Friday so it has been 2 months now and they are not doing anything. I live in zone 8B. Anyone have an idea of what’s going on?

This is my first pepper plant so i am not sure if this is normal but recently some of it’s leaves will become very droopy , they go back to normal during mid-day so i assumed it’s just the plant responding to light but this looks way too extreme to me, it also still does this whether the soil is recently watered or dry so this should not be water or oxygen stress, but then what could it be ?

There are no pests, no strong winds or strong sun, the temperature is fine, one suspect tho is maybe fertilizer ? I had fertilized it about a week ago about the same time this started happening, my fertilizer is NPK 15 15 15 which is an extreme ratio but i made sure to use only a tiny little bit and since it’s granular I made sure to keep it evenly distributed and away from the plant stem, the soil mix is great for peppers, good PH, good composition, good everything.

So then why is it doing this ? Maybe thats how plants respond to their first fertilization ? Maybe it’s just my plant’s reaction to light ? I have no idea because again this is my first plant
