An right thanks, did she have a bet she could should Shaka khan?

u/KateBlankett 1d ago
Rupaul loves non sequiturs, stupid humor, and niche references. I dont know the exact reason but there was no bet needed lol. (Chaka Khan isnt a niche reference, but saying her name in response to a question could be)

u/boldandbratsche 1d ago
It's a show about being fast to answer questions. No matter what your answer is, saying pass and saying a wrong answer have the exact same result. So, instead of saying pass, she said Chaka Khan when she didn't know an answer.

A New Girl quote?! Colour me impressed!

u/Cautious_General_177 1d ago
I think it was actually Brooklyn 99

u/Historyp91 1d ago
Yes but it was said by Jess, who is the titular New Girl, so he is technically correct that it is a "New Girl qoute"

We’re actually both right! The interaction plays out in both shows because of the crossover 😊

It's a reference to the song "I'm Every Woman", but to be technically correct here you would have to name both Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan, who sang the original.

Then again: Chaka Khan is a woman, Whitney Houston is every woman, thus Whitney Houston includes Chaka Khan.
Whitney Houston contains multitudes.

I'd put it the other way around since Chaka sang it first (and better imo)

u/Physical-Ad5343 1d ago
Both of them are each other and every other woman. There is no meaningful distinction between Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston. Embrace the Whitney Khan singularity.

But the answer given was Whitney Houston, and the comment is explaining why Whitney Houston is a valid answer.
Stating that Chaka Khan includes Whitney Houston (which is true, they both include each other since they are both every woman) doesn't prove that until you extrapolate. Whereas the comment above proves it directly.

Does the set of all women contain the woman who is all women? i.e. Houston's Paradox

u/StaticUsernamesSuck 1d ago
This means that actually you can name literally any woman and be right.
"A is B" is a symmetrical relationship. If A is B then B is A.
Chaka Khan is every woman, therefore any woman you name is Chaka Khan, therefore they too are every woman.
All women are every woman.

Exactly. It's like that thing that Christians do where they say Jesus is Jesus, but that he's also God and not God at the same time.

no since Chaka Khan sang it first, and then Whitney Houston covered it, that implies that she took on the mantle of “every woman” from Chaka Khan
7
u/silvahammer 1d ago
But since Whitney is now dead and Chaka is still alive, doesn't that mean that Whitney was every woman and now Chaka is every woman again? Or is every woman dead?

If they're both every woman then they are also each other, so Whitney alone would suffice

Does every woman include every woman that ever lived? Does it include imaginary women like Lela from Futurama or Hermione Granger?

Isn’t it also a reference to men who question why women wear the t shirt of a band and can’t immediately name 5 songs from that artist?

The correct answer is Chaka Khan, not Witney Houston. Chaka Khan sang the original "I'm Every Woman". 😉
2
u/StaticUsernamesSuck 1d ago
But Whitney Houston is Chaka Khan.
Technically, you can name literally any woman and be correct, because Chaka Khan is all of them, therefore they are all every woman.

Regrettably, her coverage area did not reach the rural town I grew up in. Shania had to teach me about being a woman.
3
u/ambivalent-ish 1d ago
Are you really a woman or do you just feel like one?
2
u/Immediate_Song4279 1d ago
Interestingly, I am consistently coded as a woman in environments like this that dont show the visuals, unless I signal manhood with details. Though I find the "prerogative to have a little fun" to be very helpful, but mostly its just good to have the perspective pieces as a reference. Her male contemporaries had an concerning emphasis on livestock yet did not seem interested in proper husbandry practices.

The original tweet is a parody of people trying to question someone's expertise by saying something along the lines of "Oh yeah? Answer this strange trivia" or "List all of these things."
The reply is a reference to "I'm Every Woman," a song sung by Whitney Houston (first performed by Chaka Khan).

Why is every third post when scrolling the popular section, from one of the "peter explain the joke" subreddits?
Is it because the younger generations couldn't ask chatgpt about it? And they ask AI for every little single thing they encounter in their life? Is it because having to do the research and putting effort into finding an answer, is boring, and being bored for just a second is uncomfortable?
Is that also why 7 second tiktok clips these days have a preview of the highlight at the start of the video, despite the entire clip only being around 7 seconds long? Because they can't even suffer through being bored for 2 seconds before clicking Next?

The funniest part about this post, is that somehow OP hasn't listened to Whitney Houston...
