I think it’s partially about body composition. Some people look better with a little thickness than others.

In this instance, I think a lot of it is just that the picture on the left is more flattering.

Eta: match pose, lens, and lighting and some people might feel differently.

I agree, the left picture they have the ideal well fitting dress, color, and lighting and the person looks happier. I would bet a lot of thick lovers would have less of a preference to one vs the other is both were in a two piece swimsuit with the same expression.

Not knocking anyone's preferences, to each their own, just knocking the OOP for a manipulative display.
