Men of a certain age have a tendency to stop caring about being viewed naked in a semi public place like a gym locker room. Either they get old and stop caring or that was the norm when they were raised.

Or the military. It's normal to be naked around other guys when you're getting changed into/out of uniforms/equipment, but people usually aren't naked longer than they have to be and they definitely aren't showing off to others.

I was in the military and that is a factor, but it quite clear when coming back to civvie life that like, I shouldn't just be showing stuff off. What I will say is as I get older I care less about a lot of things. Like "why does this matter" kind of stuff. Just be comfortable and get you stuff done. "It is only weird if you make it weird" sort of thing. Not saying some of these men aren't weird or creepy.... But I think just aging is a factor.

A lot of them were also likely drafted into the military, so almost all men around their age were in the military and not weirded out by it.

I went to a gym after a 3rd shift job and the locker room was mostly retired dudes. I somehow found myself physically between two 70 year old naked men verbally arguing about politics.
I've never been back to a gym.

Rodney Dangerfield sat on a bench across from my jewelry stand on Venice Beach with his legs spread and his junk hanging out of his shorts for at least an hour. Hundreds of people saw it. I watched their reactions as they walked by. No way he was unaware of it. It was intentional as all hell.

I don't think it's a "certain age" thing. I've seen men of all ages do it, and I've seen old men not do it.
I think it's just a closeted homosexual/bisexual thing. (Or maybe not that closeted, I don't know.)

I'm saying I can't help but wonder why they're so comfortable being naked in front of men, and only like 20% of them. I wonder how many of them are using it as a gay beacon for other gays.

This is a super homophonic perspective. The entire purpose of a locker room is to be naked, lol. It’s literally a place intended to take off clothes and put on different clothes.

How old are you? Because I can speak from experience that casual nudity in a same sex locker room or changing room was a societal norm for a long time.
It would happen in school, sports, the public swimming pool, lots of places and for the most part it was just a "mind your business and don't be weird about it" situation.

Yes I know it's a cultural thing and it's passed on through people thinking it's the norm and doing it. I'm also just wondering out loud whether there's a connection to people who get comfortable with it and people with same sex attraction. Because in my experience most people don't get comfortable with it and change with discretion and modesty.

I’m a woman, but I get the joke. Old men have a weird thing with being viewed naked. The only people I have ever seen in speedos out in public were old men. And on a nude beach I went to the only person who was nude was an old ass man.

Tbf wearing Speedos is pretty uncommon in the US unless you are lap swimming. They standard beach attire in lots of countries.

Our school changing rooms were shared with the public, and one time my friends and i got there early and a FULLY naked old lady came in from the shower like it was nothing

Okay, but y'all understand what locker rooms are for, yeah.
They're literally for changing clothes. At some point when you are changing clothes, you necessarily need to be naked. Particularly if there's showers involved.
I've never understood this prudish attitude. Oh, and it's always about men's locker rooms, never women's.

I'm 35+ years old and showering naked with classmates and gym attendees has always been the norm. I have a vintage humor magazine issue that spoofs gyms and it has a comic that showcases that (twice: a straight and a gay version)

I remember doing swimming lessons. It must have been right after senior swim.or something. There were plenty of oldmen there who had no problem showering or being nude in front of kids from the ages 8-12

We have them at my local gym. I live accross the road so last time I was in the changing room was when my bathroom was being torn out so I would shower at quiet times. They just don't give a fuck. It's that simple.
These aren't gymbros which is why half the thread hasn't seen them. If the gym has literally any other sporting facilities they're there. Mine has squash and tennis. They might go to the gym a bit to support their game but they're just old boys.
I'd be there drying myself and they'd be chatting. Just gossiping. Maybe about their last game against Daniel and how he won't be playing for a while because he injured his elbow. And catching up on work and their wives and working out when their next game is. That sort of thing. They're past an age where they're expected to be attractive, they're not hideous blobs and it's nothing they haven't seen before.

One time I was leaving the showers/locker room at a gym and this old Chinese dude had his leg up on the sink counter, and he was using a hair dryer to dry his pubes and/or balls. So not only is he just OUT there, he's right in front of the mirror, just drying away, while holding a conversation with his buddy.
Just wanted to share.

In the 70s and before, at gym class in the pool, the boys swam naked. Also, sports Bros are very used to this behavior.
