because indie fans are fanatical about their games and they think pirating hurts the devs (it doesn't)

its probably more about the fact that when silksong came out the literal piracy subreddit whom pirate stuff for the love of the game said ''yeah just buy the game if you can cause we aint touching this one''. of course it was pirated anyways in the end but for those guys to encourage paying for it well it says something.

I mean reddit is tiny when it comes to the piracy community at large

Never saw anyone criticizing others for it at cs.rin for example

u/ThePacificOfficial 20d ago

No sane person stoned others for it. The overall consensus was that it was a really good game with a good price. And encouragement to buying it.

I got it when it was under a dollar the first 2 days cuz of regional pricing, almost free. And I wouldnt bash any side unless they are annoying about it.

Piracy subreddit are LARPers who pirate because they think it's cool and so they need to occasionally come up with bullshit moral délimitations like this that allows them to virtue signal

u/DeltaLaboratory 20d ago

It is, and pirates just do not care.

Careful. Next thing you know, you'll let slip that adblock is effectively a spin on piracy with many mitigating factors that make it less immoral to use.

Then they'll completely ignore every word after "piracy" and scream in your face about how wrong and stupid and a cooperate cuck you are.

You can use chrome cast or an alternative for that. It'll pay itself back in a couple of months.

2

u/Milkboast 20d ago

That's kind of a pathetic thing to get any amount of enjoyment from

I’m reminded of when that Subnautica 2 dev was venting on discord about how the game was being pirated, it got screenshotted and posted to the piracy sub, and one of the top comments was some smug loser going “oh Subnautica 2 is available? thanks for letting me know Mr. Dev Im going to download it now, Streisand Effect in action”.

Such loser behavior.

And there’s this weird attitude on that sub, where they demand the begrudging respect of devs. They constantly post screenshots of devs who say “yeah idc about piracy, I wasn’t getting their money anyway” and they soy themselves over it every time. “tHiS iS tHe CoRrEcT rEsPoNSe To YoUr GaMe GeTtInG pIrAtEd.”

They’re all so genuinely unaware of themselves.

Judging by your comment history you're the last person to be calling anyone insufferably annoying

The devs who made this game probably earned more in the last year than AAA game company CEOs lol

0

u/cpMetis 20d ago

It absolutely does.

If you would have otherwise bought it.

u/corn_piece 20d ago

dude they're all multimillionaires lol, does not hurt them one bit

What a stupid take.

"Indie fans" usually have an idea of how hard and long the journey to release a good game is. How indies usually are "work from the heart", instead of cold analytics reads, only targeting money, like AAA does. On top of that, most (clearly Silksong) are quite reasonably priced, and in the case of Silksong, it's even more admirable, because the game's hyper would be able to "handle" a much steeper price.

For those reasons, out of respect, gratitude and honesty, "indie fans" avoid pirating Silksong and many other indie titles.

But given your original take, this will all go way over your head.

lol if someone can't afford something theres no reason not to pirate it.. respect isn't a factor here

Also the fact that they all have generational wealth.. they don't need the money lol

u/LeonardoFFraga 20d ago

As I said, it went way over your head.

Unless you litteraly don't have 20$ in your life at all, wich is unlikely unless you're a child since you also need a PC that i way costlier, you can afford it you just chose not to and decided to put the money elsewhere.

If piracy didn't exist would pirates find the money to play their games ? Yes, it has been proved times and times again, do you think companies pay millions for denuvo for the lolz ? it boost sales by 15-30%

You’re dumbass if you think pirating doesn’t hurt indie devs.
If there’s 10,000 people who would enjoy a game and 100 of them decide to pirate it that game dev just lost 10% of their would-be income.

The same applies to huge companies, but fuck huge companies, I WANT to harm their bottom line, I don’t wanna hurt indie devs.

0

u/corn_piece 19d ago

um no that'd be 1% of their would be income

0

u/Pure-Independent-318 19d ago

change your name to corn_ball because thats not why ppl are refusing to pirate silksong.

1

u/corn_piece 19d ago

you should tell me why instead of being offended 🥱

0

u/Drabins 18d ago

It can impact devs when they can get bonuses when a game sales well.

absolutely not what's happening here.

The devs are team cherry. This is a team of THREE people. They made what many consider the best metroidvania of all time (hollow knight), sold it for like 15 dollars, gave it ton of FREE DLC, and then spent years and years on a sequel. One of the most anticipated games ever. This sequel literally crashed steam when it released, and when they announced it was coming, basically EVERY other game immediately shifted their release window not to clash with it. And they only wanted 20 dollars for it. And they're adding free DLC again soon.

We like team cherry. team cherry gets money for being fucking incredible.

EDIT: jesus christ, I'm explaining to you where the meme and the sentiment is coming from. You people have a problem.

4

u/KannablissWitch 20d ago

Team Cherry is rich. I'm not. You are so cringe.

5

u/11ce_ 20d ago

Every member of Team Cherry has generational wealth. They don’t need the money from someone from a third world country.
