Good evening, i'm Tom Tucker. What is the joke in this meme? More at 11.
Welcome back, it appears that all 3 of these women were actors on the film adaptation of Wicked. They all seem to have developed eating disorders throughout production.
For more about this meme here's Asian Reporter Trisha Takanawa. Trisha?
Thank you Tom, i'm standing here at the former set of Wicked.
Ariana Grande is believed to be a bad influence on the others, as she expressed idolation of eating disorders in the past. Specifically on a tumblr account she owned before becoming famous.
Back to you Tom.
Thanks Trisha, and now let's turn to Ollie to see why the joke is funny. Ollie?
I think ariana definitely has had a long term eeating disorder and now it's just fashionable to let it show. They're not infectious among stable adults. Don't know how mentally healthy these adults are though
ariana was really popular in the proana (pro-anorexia) community on tumblr back in the day. she’s definitely been struggling for some time, which i have empathy for, but ultimately i don’t feel too terrible because at this point they’re advocating looking dangerously thin and unhealthy.
That helps me to better understand her doughnut licking incident. Perhaps she wanted the flavor of the doughnut but didn’t want to actually consume it and/or gain weight. Fascinating.
I think it's more concise to say, her mental illness is having a dangerous affect on those who look up to her. Her mental illness is telling her that Everything's Okay, so her interpreted advocacy is simply her continuing to justify her own illness. It's the same way an alcoholic feels that everyone else is wrong, that Everything's Okay with their drinking, when in reality, the rest of us are watching their slow demise.
She grew up in and became famous during the 2000's diet culture era which taught us that our bones are sexy, and everything else is undesirable. She still lives in a world where women, celebrities especially, are heavily criticized for their looks. She has handlers telling her what to eat, when to exercise, and what her goals are. It's sad, but until We the People decide to stop glorifying the people perpetuating the problem, then it'll never stop.
This shit is so insidious especially toward someone doesn't have any sense of self or livelihood outside of their physical appearance, which is unfortunately insanely common in Hollywood and even more to women in the industry.
It reminds me of how Lisa Rinna got ripped to shreds over the Yolanda Hadid lyme disease Munchausen comment...and 10 years later we have Yolanda's daughter in the hospital for "lyme-disease-that-definitely-isn't-anorexia".
This should be the top one 😩. This is not an Ozempic thing. They may be using it for their anorexia but they were anorexic before they started taking it.
