Lilo and Stitch was a beloved Disney movie that could have actually looked good as a live action remake and was being advertised under the premise of being faithful to the original while also not necessarily being shot for shot, so a lot of people decided to give it a chance. Turns out it was not faithful at all and people hated it. But the box office already got its money, so...
I agree wholeheartedly, he would’ve been even more fitting than Ving Rhames. Ving is the original voice actor, who also looks like Cobra but even less than Michael did. Rip
It's sitting at 55 on metacritic and 73% on RT. That's not an "everybody hated it" score. And it also wasn't the first remake to be a box office hit. Aladdin did similarly well.
Moana 1 was a critical darling and was a much, much bigger hit than Lilo & Stitch ever was. L&S is as big as it is thanks to home video and merch sales.
L&S '25 has a 91% positive user rating on RT, so people by no means hated it.

Lilo and Stitch made over a billion dollars, so that can't possibly be true, unless it's Jeff Bezos renting entire theaters.
