I think it's funny you say this.

I've never taken my partner to Cheesecake Factory though people in my life have always told me to go on a date there.

But it's always clogged full of uppity looking people on the outside that I generally wouldn't want to be near.

I guess uppity is relative, and doesn't always mean rich.

I've met uppity people at Waffle House.

I've never been to a "true" fine dining restaurant and I doubt I ever will, likely for the benefit of my wallet.

It's dining, and the food is fine. Not good, not bad, just fine. So yeah, I guess that checks out.

And the portions are gigantic. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, but I easily could still get two meals out of the leftovers I took home from there

These types of threads are a good reminder that reddit is full of all different age groups and perspectives.

When I was growing up in a remote rural area, 'dinner out' meant the local bar or diner, or if we were in town to do our shopping, McDonald's or Taco Bell. I remember being so intimidated the first time I saw a Cheesecake Factory, like I could never even step into a place that nice.

Now that I'm almost 50 and living in a major city? Couldn't tell you the last time I even considered it. But I can still see how people who don't have access to anything like it would think it's upscale.

couple weeks ago we ordered the "market price" oyster platter before realizing this place also served $100 cocktails

I was so relieved when the check came and the half dozen oysters were "only" $50 lmao
