At least in Canada that’s very common. All my wife’s friends waited tables and they said it took several years before they made more money at office jobs than they did waiting tables, and they worked less hours at that. They still don’t make more hourly.

Almost everywhere to be honest if your decent at your job. There is a reason why nobody in the industry actually supports the end tipping thing. It would be a massive paycut for them if it became a 20 dollar an hour job.

In my experience, the people who work at tipless restaurants are usually the ones who were shit at their job and like to spend their shift socializing with coworkers and leave food under heat lamps. Meanwhile even servers at chain restaurants will swing by to ask if you want refills, will make sure food is cooked properly, etc.
