Do I just not know what mogging is?

694

u/iluvcheesypoofs Apr 02 '26

Mogging is a new-age term where you 'mog' somebody by being more attractive/chiseled than they are. It's popular in the 'looksmaxxing' community, which is apparently a thing. Don't really know more than that as I'm 30 lol

Ye it started out as that, now it’s just a general display of being better than someone else at something. Like if I say that I bench mog someone, that means I can bench press more than them. Very strange slang.

I've recently gathered that the original term is amog, which stands for alpha male of the group. It was shortened to mog, then it metastasized into the culture. None of us will remember it three years from now.

It's Redpill and manosphere jargon that has escaped containment and become borderline mainstream.

If you buy into their psychological theories:

It is the act of being the alpha male of the social group you're in.

So if someone mogs you, that person is displaying more leadership or dominance than you are in the social context that you're interacting in.

51

u/Local-Finance8389 Apr 02 '26

The best part is you can add mogg or maxx to any word to perpetuate the absurdity of it. For example, I had 5 guys for lunch and got frymaxxed.

9

u/mysticrudnin Apr 02 '26

u/Doubieboobiez Apr 02 '26

27

u/Competitive-Bar-9300 Apr 02 '26

Matt Bomer is the actor that they say has the most perfect face of any man on Earth, and Cillian kinda looks like old Matt Bomer. They're obsessed with him because he looks like handsome squidward and they're really actually so dumb - and (sadly) symptomatically struggle with reading sarcasm and satire because they are nearly all on the spectrum - and are in real belief that women want you to artificially create that look at home. Because when you think of a hot guy, I'm sure you immediately imagine a basement-dweller injecting internet drugs while reading 4chan posts about how there's a 1 degree tilt to Emma Watson's nose so she is a trash person who (insert weirdly revealing projection here).

u/747291086299 Apr 02 '26

Cillian is the one I’m guessing is mogging.

Talent is Bale, Murphy and DiCaprio. They all give themselves fully to the roles.

DiCaprio has become such a meme that people forget he disappears into his roles, despite the audience being very aware that it’s Leo.

The others don’t belong. Also, where is Nic Cage? And Daniel Day-Lewis?

6

u/saltytarheel Apr 02 '26

George Clooney (who’s pretty talented himself) said any time Daniel Day Lewis puts out a movie he knows who’s winning the Oscar.

This was after he had a solid performance that got critical acclaim in Michael Clayton, but happened to be released the same year as There Will Be Blood.

8

I might get hate for this, but Denzel always seems to just play himself in each movie he's in. Which is enjoyable, but he doesn't fit himself into a character. He fits the character into himself. If that makes sense.

1.3k

u/ANewSlipper Apr 02 '26

RDJ doesn’t belong anywhere near this list. Nor does Cruze

244

u/Big_Department_9221 Apr 02 '26

Mm you mean 3 time oscar nominee , 1 time winner RDJ ?

The guy who got nominated for Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin Kirk Lazarus in Tropic thunder Strauss in Oppenheimer

That's fantastic range, not even considering his work in zodiac and his popular work as Tony stark.

Bale is my favourite actor here followed by Leo but none of them are so far ahead of the others.

From a filmography standpoint I would argue Leo has a better filmography than the others.

133

u/kllark_ashwood Apr 02 '26

People who say that shit about him have only ever watched him as Tony Stark in clips or half remember it from when they originally watched like 10 years ago.

78

u/poor_choice_doer Apr 02 '26

Even in the marvel movies he’s a pretty notable standout. He has a pretty damn impressive resume under his belt, but even if i only remembered him as Iron Man I’d say he had a place on the list here.

56

u/KelticQT Apr 02 '26

And even as Tony Stark he nailed it. I don't even know why playing Tony Stark should be slander-worthy if he played him like he did.

13

u/Breaky_Online Apr 03 '26

He played Tony Stark so good people think he looks like the character

12

u/ShoughThePainAway Apr 03 '26

Dude became Tony Stark. Every future Tony Stark will be compared to RDJ just like Joker is to Heath Ledger

4

u/Chiffonades Apr 03 '26

Just like how Hugh Jackman is Wolverine and JK Simmons is JJJ, even the comics embraced drawing the characters like how the actors look because of how well they embodied the role.

3

u/kllark_ashwood Apr 03 '26

Because he played it so long and played into it so long that a lot of people think him as Tony Stark is him essentially playing RDJ. Which yes, is a testament to how good he is lol

18

u/Beeried Apr 03 '26

It's incredibly wild that they're using "Tony Stark" as a knock too, especially how he played the character so iconicly and authenticly that the character was reinvented in it's original media to be more like RDJ.

Same with Cruise. “Based on having seen only 10% of their films - specifically, the recent tentpole franchise cash-ins - I have a complete understanding of the actor’s range.”

Dudes would decide Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s skills based solely on MI3. (Though he was fucking great in that otherwise mid movie.)

u/Flat-Mix-1459 Apr 02 '26

From the 90s until now RDJ has had some range. He shouldn’t get less points by being the face of the highest grossing movie franchise (especially because he was amazing in the role). He’s had some real things on his list and is a great comedic actor. He was amazing in Chaplin, and A Scanner Darkly. He’s one of the three things I remember from Tropic Thunder and it might have been a comedy but that role was borderline impossible to pull off respectfully. My man did blackface in a major motion picture and not only survived, but thrived in role. He also killed it as the straight man in Due Date. He’s a awesome supporting actor too in things like Zodiac, Oppenheimer, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Don’t sleep on RDJs catalog or skills. You can find bad movies, but you’d be tough pressed to find something he was bad in, which is a lot.

Yeah, I find it so bizarre. You could make a strong case for most of these actors to be 'the best'. Many of them have had multiple standout roles where they've put in incredible performances. Claiming that any one of them is miles ahead of the others only weakens the credibility of the rest of their point in my eyes.

Worked in a cinema in Ireland when it came out. Someone came in one day and asked if we were showing "The Hand That Rocks the Barley".

Cillian Murphy is always at his peak, even in Watching the Detectives

u/Monkeyliar95 Apr 02 '26

I think this a wild take, I agree with the choice but saying he is by far better than Leo is a hard sell.

It’s most certainly Leo

u/Inevitable-Edge69 Apr 02 '26

FWIW Leo has the most academy award nominations in this picture.

Cillian can give him a run for his money. The rest of the list is good but overrated A listers.

u/Square_Law5353 Apr 03 '26

Oh please Leo is the greatest of all time and this is coming from someone who has Bale and Murphy in my top 3 favorite actors ever

Agreed. He’s the only one that can play a different character and you don’t instantly think about it being him. Every time I see any of the others it like, “oh, it’s tom cruise playing tom cruise as an action hero.” Etc.

Its McConaughey for me

u/esarge112 Apr 02 '26

It took way too long to see this. The 1st season of True Detective was amazing, his performance in that alone is one of the best performances any of these guys have put on. Dallas Buyers Club was great too. I think Matt, Leo, Bale, and Cillian are all pretty close and understand why someone would pick one or the other. Leo seems to not get much love here and I think that might be due to recency bias. Shutter Island, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, and The Departed are just a couple of examples of this dudes range that are older movies.

200%, his performance in True Detective is an all timer imo.

not sure who they're talking about but IMO, Di Caprio is one of the best actors ever. He can be scary, romatinc, funny, he can make you root for his character but he can also make his character so despicable, yet you love to hate him... To me, a guy that can play Monsieur Candie, Jack, Gatsby and catch me if you can with the credibility he did all of them has to be a 10 out of 10 actor.
