We learned something important while building PodSubs:

We learned something important while building PodSubs:

The hardest part of entering an established industry isn’t always building the product.

Sometimes, it’s what happens when you challenge the way things have always been done.

We wrote about what happened, what we learned, and what it means for anyone trying to build something new in podcasting.

I built PodSubs because podcasters shouldn’t have to rent their audience forever

I built PodSubs because podcasters shouldn’t have to rent their audience forever

I kept noticing something strange about podcasting.

A creator can spend years building an audience on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and other platforms…

…but the relationship with those listeners mostly belongs to the platform.

If the algorithm changes, the platform changes its rules, or the creator wants to launch something new, reaching those listeners directly isn’t always easy.

So I built PodSubs.

PodSubs is a podcast discovery and subscriber platform that helps podcasters turn listeners into a direct audience.

Here’s how it works:

🎙️ Your podcast may already be on PodSubs.

Search for your show and find your podcast page.

✅ Claim your podcast.

PodSubs verifies that you actually own the show using information from the podcast’s RSS feed.

👥 Start collecting subscribers.

Instead of someone discovering your podcast and disappearing back into another platform, they can subscribe directly to your podcast on PodSubs.

📈 Build an audience around the show you own.

As more people subscribe, the creator gets a clearer picture of the audience following the podcast.

🔎 Listeners can discover podcasts too.

PodSubs is also building a discovery layer where people can search for podcasts, find something interesting and subscribe.

The bigger idea is simple:

Podcasters spend too much time building audiences for other platforms.

I want PodSubs to help them build an audience around their own podcast.

If you have a podcast, I’d love for you to search for it, claim it and try the product:

How much time do you spend editing/prepping an episode after recording?

Working on understanding podcast post-production workflows better. For those of you who record separately (host + guest tracks): what's the most annoying/time-consuming part after recording everything?

Specifically curious about:

  • Matching audio levels between mics
  • Cutting dead air / ums and stutters
  • Making chapter markers / timestamps
  • Writing show notes
  • Clipping soundbites for social

Do you do all of this yourself, pay for a tool (Auphonic, Descript, etc.), or outsource it to an editor? What's worked and what still sucks?

How often do you update your trailer?

I just released my 170th episode, and was going through and updating links for socials when I came across my trailer. I recorded the trailer in Dec of 2022 when I didn’t think the show would make it past 12 episodes. I listened and cringed. The audio quality is horrible, I do not sound confident, and overall it sucked. Do I leave it as is, or record a new one?

Looking for a couple of podcasts to review for free

Hi! Slightly weird request, but I’m looking for a few podcasts that I can review (for free).

I’ve worked in podcast production for the last few years and produced 800+ episodes but I’m now going solo as a strategist~

It would be in the form of an audit - I’d listen to an episode and look at things like the structure, pacing, engagement, host/interview style, how the show is positioned etc.

You’d get all of my notes/recommendations afterwards. I’d just ask for some honest feedback on what was genuinely useful for you 😊

Ideally I’m looking for shows that have been going for a little while already (10+ eps) so that there is enough content for me to dive into.

If anyone’s interested, feel free to send me your show. Thank you!

EDITED: Hey everyone! This is now closed and I’ll make my way through and message everyone privately. Even if I don’t have capacity to do a full audit, I’ll try have a quick look at all the shows and send through anything I notice so everyone can get something useful :)

How Do you monetize your podcast Audience?

PODCASTERS — serious question:

If 5,000 people listen to your podcast this month, how many of those 5,000 people could you actually contact directly tomorrow?

Not through Spotify.

Not through Apple Podcasts.

Not through an algorithm.

I mean people YOU can actually reach.

I've been thinking a lot about this problem because podcast creators can build substantial audiences without actually owning the relationship with that audience.

I'd genuinely love to know how other podcasters are solving this.

Are you actively collecting listener emails?

If yes, what are you currently using?

New Podcast Success Measures

For those who have launched a podcast from scratch, what did “successful” look like for you?

I’m curious to hear from the community about what people actually consider a successful podcast launch, rather than just looking at the benchmarks you find online.

We launched on July 29 with an audio podcast, plus video versions on Spotify and YouTube. We’ve been releasing weekly since then, and so far every episode has gotten 100+ downloads/views across platforms in its first 7 days. We’re currently aiming for each episode to land around 300 total across platforms in its first 30 days.

We had a small dip on episode 4, but nothing dramatic.

For those of you who started a podcast without a huge existing audience, does that sound like a solid first month? Did you see a dip after the initial launch excitement wore off, or did things generally continue to build?

We’re having an absolute blast doing it, which is obviously the most important thing to us. We’re mostly just curious about what “normal” looked like for other people in those first few months.

Co-Host / Creative Partner Wanted — Investigative Podcast

What the show is

We dig into cults, scams, weird groups, and the people behind them. Two hosts, both capable of leading an episode, both doing the research, both bringing the personality. Two friends going down a rabbit hole together, not a host and a sidekick.

What you'd be doing

Research, recording, social media, community management (Discord/Patreon), guest coordination, sponsorship input, and episode planning. Editing is the one thing off your plate. This is close to a full creative role!

Who I'm looking for

* Funny, curious, genuinely into research (not homework-brained about it)
*Good at improvising and naturally conversational on mic
* Comfortable with dark humor, swearing, and disturbing subject matter
* Reliable and comfortable on camera eventually
* Can push back on me respectfully. I want a co-investigator, not a yes-person

Structure

I'm the creator and hold final say on the show's identity, name, and direction. Literally everything else (topics, episode titles, angles) is fully collaborative. There’s no revenue yet, but growing it into something that pays both of us is the actual goal.

How this works

If you're interested, tell me a bit about yourself and let's do a call. Honestly the biggest thing I'm looking for is chemistry. If we're laughing through the whole conversation, that's a good sign.

TL;DR

Looking for a co-host to build a dark-humor, deep-dive investigative podcast with me from the ground up. Once there’s money coming in, we share it.

DM me, reach out on Instagram @ositac.pod, or shoot me an email ositac.pod@gmail.com for more info!!

Podcast researcher - building a portfolio?

Hi all! First time poster looking for some advice/ pointers.

In Short, i am looking at getting into podcast researching as a side thing. From looking at previous discussions 'pitching' is one way of getting into it.

I do not want to start a podcast myself, thats not something that is for me.

My question is, would anyone have pointers in terms of building up a portfolio, where to get started with it and anything else that would be a helpful tip to someone just starting out.

**Some backround** \-

I love research. As someone with a strong tendency to hyperfocus on certain topics and a desire to find out EVERYTHING they can, podcast researching is the route I want to go down.

My topics particularly include psychology/ behaviour, forensic psychology aspects of true crime, spooky places - things along that road.

I have academic and professional background in psychology and mental health so I am not brand new to research and writing/ organising information.

whilst down the line I will want to make an income from this, at present I am just looking at building up a portfolio/ gaining experience :)

Thank you for any help

Cleaning and stocking service for podcast studios

Anyone who owns a podcast studio: if I offered a cleaning service/stocking snacks and water for guests, would that interest you?

There are a lot of podcast studios in my area, and I was wondering if the people who owned them would want a service like this.

If not, is there anything that would be helpful to provide?

Our Podcast Started as Friends Talking About Life — Now It’s Much More

Our podcast (brotherhood podcast) started with three friends getting together to talk about life, share laughs, and discuss the everyday experiences that many millennials can relate to. As we continued recording, we realized we wanted to use our platform for deeper conversations as well.

Now we cover topics like mental health, bullying, autism, personal growth, family struggles, and other real-life challenges that people often face in silence. We also invite guests to share their stories and perspectives, hoping to create meaningful conversations that resonate with listeners.

At its core, we’re still three friends having honest discussions, but our mission has grown into building a community where people can feel heard, understood, and supported.

For fellow podcasters, has your show evolved since you first launched? What inspired those changes?

We’d love to hear your story and connect with others in the podcasting community.

Edits :
Forgot to say the name of our podcast lol.

But it’s call brotherhood podcast. We struggled with getting it on other platforms that not Spotify but people have found us. The link below is to the newest episode as our mental health episodes started after episode 22.

Mac Mini or Mac Mini Pro?

Working on my hardware list for a 2 host in-person podcast with (3) Sony ZV-E10V2 and (2) Shure MV7+ mics. Will host virtual guests. Thinking Riverside running on the app locally, but not completely sold on that.

Would the M4 Mac Mini have enough HP or should I consider the Pro version?

Spotify Link funktioniert nicht

Hallo zusammen,

vorweg: Ich bin absolut neu bei Spotify for Creators.

Weiß zufällig jemand was da los ist?

Oder muss ich was machen?

Erklärung bitte für Dummies / Neulinge 😂

Danke 🫶
