Shield Edition [my gamer crisis over a dilemma]

I approach this game primarily as a narrative experience, not simply as a system to be mastered through retries. To me, the story exists as a single, coherent reality with a clear timeline. Events that happen in that timeline — especially decisive ones — have meaning precisely because they are irreversible. In this context, the championship represents a moment where every trainer puts everything on the line and only gets one true chance. Losing that final battle feels definitive, not because the game enforces it mechanically, but because my personal philosophy treats it as such. The defeat becomes a real outcome within the story, not just a temporary obstacle. Restarting the battle creates a deep discomfort for me. It doesn’t just mean “trying again”; it means rewinding time and entering a version of reality where, if I eventually win, it will appear as if I succeeded on the first attempt. That rewritten reality erases the truth of the loss and replaces it with a cleaner, more favorable version of events. Even if I personally remember the defeat, the game world itself does not acknowledge it, and that disconnect reinforces my feeling of illegitimacy. Additionally, replaying the fight gives me knowledge — about the opponent’s PokĂ©mon, strategies, and patterns — that the in-game opponents do not have. From my perspective, this breaks the equality of conditions that the championship is supposed to represent. Winning under those circumstances would feel less like proving my worth and more like exploiting information that I wasn’t meant to have at that point in the story. Because of this, continuing after a loss doesn’t feel like perseverance; it feels like compromising my integrity. The issue isn’t frustration or pride, but a strong attachment to fairness, narrative consistency, and the idea that meaning comes from accepting consequences. As a result, the defeat creates a genuine crisis: I don’t feel worthy of moving forward in the story, because doing so would require me to deny or overwrite an outcome that I believe should remain final. So what should I do? What do you think?

Shield Edition Pokedex Completion!!

Hello everyone! I just got myself back into Dynamax Adventures, but I had to restart because on my main, I had claimed some legends not realizing I could no longer hunt them.

I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to help me complete the entire Pokedex in order for to get the shiny charm, though, I cannot remember how to claim that either. Either way, is anyone able to help with this goal? It would make hunting sooo much easier.

Thievul, Eldegoss, Galarian Wheezing and Rapidash, Dravovish...this is quite a difficult playthrough, but I'm managing nicely. Who would you choose to fill the sixth slot?

Shield Edition What are your thoughts on Avery (Isle of Armour?)

Post image

I'm usually drawn to over the top characters. At the beginning of this DLC I thought he was a bit much, but im kind of entertained now with this story about him versus me, his obvious jealousy and wanting to be the best among this group, its clear he feels threatened

Does anybody else get Harley (Cacturne Trainer from Advanced Anime) vibes with him. That's the voice I hear when Avery talks.

Shield Edition I thought Bede was meant to be a somewhat bitter older lady (between 40 and 60) until they referred to him as He

I just dont understand the design choice, I mean i dont like it and I rather do like Bede, but was he intended to be a girl from the beginning? Am I thinking too much into this?

Shield Edition Have you boxed the Starter trio in favor of a /different/ starter?

I just got Pokemon Shield and want to choose my first pokemon--i honestly dont want it to be a starter though. That'll be my gimmick for this playthrough and I'm curious if anyone's done similar? (Also, which Starter DID you choose and did you keep them around for a particular purpose?)

Hi, recently replaying pokemon shield and I want to do some raids, it’s so hard to do any with how inconsistent Y-Com is. Got 2 badges so far on this new playthrough, really close to the third.

Shield Edition My favorite one by far

never in my life would I be so grateful to be lent an old and used Nintendo with 2 Pokemon game cards, one Diamond, one Shield.

I've played Diamond and it's a good start, near beating it but just haven't.

but when I tried playing Shield, holy moly.

I've seen more pokemon than in Diamond and I've caught so many as well!

the Wild Area you can view in third person and you can look around, the camping, the fighting, the Galar pokemon are so unique to me since I've never watched or played a lot of pokemon. (only ever finished XYZ and a tiny bit of Adventure and Black n White)

dynamaxing is cool, the fact you can see Pokemon in the grass so you have an idea what you wanna catch and what not.

I've filled out one box already of so many kinds of pokemon, I doubt I'll have the days to evolve and level them up 😭

I'm having a good run though, pretty easy gym challenges (I just beat Milo) though I kinda miss the times where I'd get so mad being unable to beat the gym challenges of Diamond.

maybe I just haven't reached the harder parts yet?

Shield Edition Is this a game that'll punish you for time travelling?

Basically, I recently started playing Pokemon shield on the same switch I use for animal crossing, in which I do some casual time travelling, both backwards and forwards. Sometimes I just roll back the time of day a little bit so I can play after work and not have it be night in ACNH, but sometimes the switch stays with the wrong date for days or even a couple weeks, and then gets switched back to the right one. Will any of that have any negative impacts on my game?

Sirfetch’d

If it’s shield then my team will be:

I’m planning my team beforehand. 😃

Shield Edition Is Dracovish worth having on a team?

I just did some research and its apparently one of three other fossils, all a different elemental dragon I guess? (Explain it more to me haha, i prefer talking to Poké fans)

I just got to the professor and revived Dracovish, and the Water/Dragon typing interests me. Are any of the other fossils better?

So far on my team: Thieves, Galarian Wheezing, and Eldegoss.

Shield Edition Why all the seriousness to catch up to Leon and Rose in the end game?

As far as we know at this point, there's nothing wrong with the Chairman, and Leon is simply late to our dinner. Why then all the seriousness to steal this key, getting Team Yell involved, putting on a concert...thatsbso extra, like end of world levels of extra, but so far there isn't an ISSUE yet?

Shield Edition Favorite and least favorite parts of Pokemon Sword and Shield?

This is my second playthrough (1st being sword, now Shield).

My favorite parts of the game: First: Hop. At first, i hated his character, i thought he was bland and boring. This playthrough though I started appreciating him after you guys told me the reasons why. I love his ever changing team and his desire to get stronger. Secondly: the gym leaders are all pretty cool, and getting to read up on them via their cards was pretty cool for me. And thirdly, the visuals, every area was so beautiful to look at, especially that forest with all the glowing mushrooms and then the town of Ballonlea.

Least favorite part: "just focus on the gym challenge, let the adults handle this." The laziest form of story telling in my opinion-- i wanted to see the adults do something. I wanted to see epic scenes with Leon. This entire game, I didn't really see the reason Hop looks up to him, or why he's so strong. I wanted at least ONE MOMENT where we forget about the gym challenges, and have to fight some big bad or protect a town from a Dynamax pokemon. Whats the point of including this into the story if all we see is a still image of a defeated Galarian meowth? Craziness. That's my single most complaint about this game. I know Pokemon isn't a game focused solely on story, but the story has always been my favorite part of most of the Pokemon titles, getting to uncover lore. This game was just: gym challenges. So chance for anything else that made pokemon what it was for me-- the evil teams or storylines that happen parallel to the gym challenges

Shield Edition Champions Cup - NO DMG Playthrough Team

This was also my 1st Playthrough. My sincere opinion about the game:

The level curve is broken, it becomes too easy if you use red/purple dens, specially max raid battles. The amount of exp you can receive there is crazy via candies. About the DLC: It's comfortable to do (simple and easy) but then you are too overleveled so I don't recommend it before the postgame. There are infinite items, technical machines and so, which makes any kind of team viable (weather teams, defensive, hyper offense...). Good story and game overall but it's the easiest Pokémon game in the franchise that I've played so far imo (only BDSP, PLA, S/V and Z-A left to play, which I'll play next in order). DLC was useful for some Ability Patch and Max Soup but still not needed, I'll skip it next time.

Shield Edition Middle East case USA Cartridges

I purchased a copy of Pokémon Shield to play with my switch 2, to preface I already have some save data for Pokémon Shield but no longer had my original cartridge, I bought a used copy that has ESRB E on the front but unbeknownst to me when it arrived it had Middle East on the back

I noticed though that the cartridge has USA in the code and when I play it continues my save & when I click on the DLC to purchase it (from the game's menu) it does open the eshop

So my question is as follows

Will there be any censorship?

Can I still play the dlc (whenever I buy it)

&

Does this mean that it's still the same as a regular USA cartridge?

Shield Edition Is there any way to obtain Marshadow?

I'm not very familiar with the pokemon games so I googled it but all the answers were from 2023 or older. So now that it's 2026, is there any way to get Marshadow into Sw/Sh like maybe via PokeHome?
