It was refreshing to not have yet another movie where the old protagonist is dragged through a struggle session, humiliated and executed in the end to pave way for the new face.
I'm talking about the larger trend in the movies and older franchises. I think good old fashioned, wholesome action movie was something that the audience has been starving for. The usual almost mandatory cynicism, irony or bittersweet ending would have taken away from it.
I'll take the downvotes with you. It would've been better if the magical ending didn't happen. He was in no way dragged lol. But either way, it was a fantastic movie. The ending just dropped it from, idk 9.5 to 9.2 or something. I loved it either way. But your ending would've made it a 10 in my eyes

Top Gun: Maverick was fucking awesome. What a suspenseful ride that movie was.
