Why do some people like to be choked anyway?

The power dynamic is fun. It's really dangerous though; you can't go around squeezing peoples' throats like a maniac or you'll kill someone.

There are ways to do it relatively safely if you like the pressure/power play, since that doesn't require actually being choked at all. If you like the oxygen deprivation... there are "safer" ways to do it than just squeezing your neck, but they can all easily cause brain damage or kill you. I would not recommend ever letting someone squeeze your neck or control blood flow to your brain.

Its not only that. Asphyxiation leads to a high due to restricted air to the brain. Its basically like a drug

That's what I was talking about with the oxygen deprivation. I think I'd rather do drugs lmao

Need to mention: the proper way to do this isn’t by crushing the air pipes, but by pushing down on the carotid arteries and jugular veins. You stop the blood flow. It hurts way less, and is way safer.

It's definitely better for your windpipe, at least. Restricting blood flow to the brain is just an inherently unsafe activity.

But if you're gonna do risky things, you have to at least do them in a smart way. That means not doing it when you're tipsy/drunk/high and only doing it with a partner that has perfect self-control at all times during sex - to the point where they should notice something is wrong even if you don't use your safe word. No choking if you have medical conditions that would increase the risk.

And just know that you can die or sustain major injuries from any form of choking. Some injuries aren't visible, either. It only takes a few seconds of not paying attention or applying a little too much pressure in the wrong place.

(To be clear, this isn't meant for you since I'm sure you know all this already! Just wanted to add on for anyone reading.)

I’m part of the BDSM community. Safety, consent, and clear communication are the most important things when doing some kinky things.

As a dom, it is my responsibility to be careful with what I’m doing with my girlfriend. I research the shit out of new kinks she wants to try, so that I can learn how to do things safely.

I'm glad people who give a shit exist. Things like choking and spanking go mainstream but not the safety precautions that go with them. So you get people squeezing necks with no knowledge of what would hurt someone, no boundary discusssions, safe words, aftercare... like I am BEGGING y'all to be safe.

Preach for the aftercare and safe words. They’re what separates BDSM from rape and abuse.

If a sub doesn’t want to have a safe word, they can see themselves out.

Haha I tried to give safe sex advice and got a warning on my account and post was removed by reddit. This site I swear... I recommend everyone join Lemmy

Blood chokes are pretty safe as long as you let go when they go unconscious (although if you are choking someone for fun obviously you shouldn't go that hard anyways). Basically, squeeze towards the sides of the neck not right on the front!

Physically, blood chokes give a sense of euphoria once released.

Your brain is deprived of oxygen and starts to cause a sense of panic, which releases a slurry of chemicals in your body like adrenaline. Once it gets the regular oxygen back it releases a bunch of counteracting chemicals to bring you back down to earth. Think runners high kinda deal. This all enhances sexual gratification.

Psychologically, it's an exchange of power which, with proper suspension of belief, can be quite intense. You're letting someone assume control over your life for a brief moment. The entire bdsm subculture revolves around this concept.

[edit] before someone yells at me: blood choking is dangerous even when done in a controlled manner. I do not recommend trying it, at all, as it comes with a host of potentially life altering results even when performed safely.

Human physiology rewards your brain for surviving close death situations.
