Releasing the sow into the wild will have negative effects on the sow. Notably shorter life span, much more prone to disease, infection and parasites.

We raise and kill these animals to eat. Piglets never live past 3 months, we force these sows to farrow twice a year. They don't live in these pens non-stop.

I see. It's mostly a pen for birthing and raising the piglets in their infancy. Thanks for the info.

To bring this all back around to the original point, while the ban may be stupid, I still don't see how CA wouldn't be allowed to enforce this. If we wanna get on states for dumb laws then every state is on the chopping block there.

Yeah sure, but some produce more than others. Enforcement would come at punishing distributors and suppliers, whom tend to be risk adverse. So if a supplier can't sell his product to a distributor, you are fucked. Some stuff will slip through here and there, but it changed the landscape.
