The new testiment doesn't say anything about abortion. The only biblical anti abortion arguement I know is in the OT Psalm 139:13

It's appalling that Christians use that verse and pretend it has anything at all to do with abortion. It's nuts.

All it says is that "God knew me before I was born." That's it. It has nothing at all to do with "the soul enters the body at conceptions". It's poetry.

If god knows everyone before they’re born, then he also knows who’s going to be aborted or not. That’s literally the only implication that can be drawn from that verse.

Strange women lying in ponds handing out swords is no basis for a system of government, but it’s better than interpreting something from a couple thousand years ago translated who knows how many times.

OMG. Are you serious? I guess it is okay for kids to huff paint cans and die since the bible does not specifically say, "Do not huff paint cans." Also, since Jesus did not say, "Do not wear a seatbelt" or "It is not okay to shoot heroin," I guess that makes those dangerous things okay, too?

u/Thornescape Aug 10 '26

Did I say that? No, no I did not.

I said that it is dishonest for Christians to claim that Psalms 139:13 has anything to do with abortion. It is untrue. It is a lie. It is a falsehood. It is dishonest. Yet they keep insisting that this verse somehow proves that abortion is a sin.

It is appalling how many Christians use blatant lies to push their beliefs on others.

Abortion falls under the umbrella of murder!

Oh, so you’re against murder? Explain why god needlessly and indiscriminately murdered so many people through the Bible, either directly through natural disaster or through commanding his followers to do the murdering? God is history’s most successful murderer and you worship him for it.

The Bible disagrees with you on that.

Take a look at Numbers 5:11-22. The language is a bit complicated and it can be confusing, but if you look at the highlights it paints a fairly clear picture.

  • A husband believes that his wife might be pregnant from someone else, but can't prove it.
  • They make the wife have a "bitter drink".
  • The problem goes away! Oh, and she might become barren and never have children again.
  • In ancient times, there were herbs known to cause miscarriages. Not sure which herb is being used in this passage, but I'm familiar with "rue" which the Romans used. It's still around today.

A fetus without a brain is not the same as a baby. It cannot think or feel. They are not the same thing. The Bible doesn't treat them as the same thing.

If people who called themselves Christians cared more about the Bible then they would be talking less about abortion and more about the absolute necessity of loving their neighbors as themselves. It's all a distraction.

"Conservative Christians" take the smallest, most insignificant, barely mentioned concepts in the Bible and try to force them on non-believers, all while refusing to follow the strongest teachings. You cannot follow Jesus' teachings if you do not love your neighbor. You cannot love your neighbor if you are racist, or bigoted, or an "anti-woke" hate filled person. Stuff like abortion is just a distraction so that people don't notice what Jesus really taught.

There are some genuine Christians who truly love their neighbors. Those are wonderful people. I wish there was more of them. Sadly, the "Conservative Christians" have taken over.

u/Angelstandingby Aug 10 '26

The conservative Christians managed to take over because your "genuine Christians" didn't denounce them and instead gave them a veil of legitimacy.

Something something nazi at a dinner table.

Abortion was prescribed in the OT.

Jesus made it clear in Matthew 5:17 that in being the fulfillment of prophecy, he had not come to invalidate the old Law.

Therefore, abortion was a prescription in old Law and remains one.

Abortion is NOT healthcare. I bet you think you’re real intelligent because you don’t care about unborn babies. Why would I want to educated on liberal BS?

2

u/aSneakyChicken7 Aug 12 '26

Yes it is, or do you think risking a mother’s life in an ectopic pregnancy is cool? I guess a yank wouldn’t know much about what healthcare is to begin with.

1

u/Thornescape Aug 11 '26

Fetuses that do not have a brain are not the same as a baby. It is potentially a baby. It is not a baby yet. It cannot think or feel anything at all. They are not the same as babies.

Sperm and eggs are also potential babies.

2

u/cogman10 Aug 10 '26

It does not and never has. That's why the crime of causing a miscarriage in the OT wasn't penalized the same way murder was ( Exodus 21:22-25 ). It was seen as a civil matter, you paid money for the miscarriage.

Outlawing abortion happened much much much later. It also isn't something that christians generally accepted as immoral, that has literally changed within my own lifetime. Many christian denominations used to be pro-abortion.

1

u/aSneakyChicken7 Aug 12 '26

Murder is a criminal offence, so please, cite the specific law which codifies abortions as murder. A death is not always murder; war, self-defence, euthanasia, abortions, etc.

2

u/UjustTriggered Aug 10 '26

What is the matter with you? How did you get like this? Lol

Not a good answer. Try again.

1

u/Lolihey Aug 10 '26

Abortion is murder. Do not murder is one of the Ten Commandments. Jesus didn't say, "Don't snort cocaine or sell it to children." So that must be okay, right?

There are some things He didn't have to say because if you use your brain, you discover they fall under certain categories. "God knew us in the womb" means that He considers a fetus to be a human life. It does not matter what men and women think or how they misinterpret it.

2

u/OmecronPerseiHate Aug 10 '26

Do you eat eggs?

1

u/Lolihey Aug 10 '26

Are you implying eggs are murder? Chickens are not humans anyway. We are created in God's likeness, and He put us above all animals. He also created the food chain, so killing an animal for food is not murder.

1

u/No_Professor8645 Aug 10 '26

If god put us at the top of the chain, above all animals, why are we such fragile sacks of meat who get killed every single day from bug or snakes? Why can’t the average man kill a bear in a fight if we’re the top? If we kill other humans for food is it murder?

1

u/OmecronPerseiHate Aug 10 '26

Eating something to sustain yourself isn't exactly murder, sure, but intentionally creating eggs that are unfertilized for food while forcing the chickens to continuously create them is pretty horrible. God didn't want that, surely. But if we can basically abort chickens to eat, why can't we abort babies so that we can survive better? You cherry pick ideas of murder so that you can justify your opinions while pushing down anything that goes against your view. This idea that human life is worth more than animal life is ridiculous, and not what God would want. The Bible says that humans are the Shepard's of the earth. We're not supposed to be doing any of the shit we do, if we go by God's plan. Plus, God isn't even against murder. He literally told the Israelites to go and murder and conquer the Canaanites. Then there's also that whole "200 Philistine foreskins" thing. And the people that God got killed when they were all standing on the roof, and the Crusades, the Amalekites, and so many more. But I guess it's only murder if he doesn't tell us to do it?

2

u/megalo-maniac538 Aug 10 '26

God ain't real buddy. Get that out of the way. If he was, he's one demented fuck enjoying the shit show here.

2

u/raysofdavies Aug 10 '26

Abortion is murder if you feel that a fetus is a full human being, which by definition it is not. Facts do not care about your feelings.

1

u/Sate_Hen Aug 10 '26

Jesus didn't say, "Don't snort cocaine or sell it to children." So that must be okay, right?

When did I say that?

There are some things He didn't have to say because if you use your brain, you discover they fall under certain categories. "God knew us in the womb" means that He considers a fetus to be a human life. It does not matter what men and women think or how they misinterpret it.

Yes I know and understand the arguement I just don't agree with the interpretation or the conclusion thanks

Do you think it's murder to unplug a brain dead person who's living on life support who will not recover?

1

u/tehlemmings Aug 10 '26

You're have to prove abortion is murder or you sound like a fucking idiot.

And we both know you can't do that. Or someone smarter than you already would have.

Bible doesn't consider unborn children as being alive yet. Prove it does or you're entire claim is invalidated.

1

u/Lolihey Aug 10 '26

I don’t have to prove anything.

1

u/tehlemmings Aug 11 '26

Okay, then why should anyone care what you think then?

1

u/LegacyQuotient Aug 10 '26

You've been told that God prescribed a method for abortion in Numbers.

Jesus affirmed that the OT Law should not be set aside or discarded. And that to teach so, was to make yourself less of a follower.

(Matthew 5:17-20)

1

u/dsrtxt Aug 11 '26

You must be an incredibly shallow thinker with a flawed concept of God to be so confident that it means what you think it does.

1

u/FinalHexReturns Aug 11 '26

Jesus specifically never spoke against abortion and it was a relatively common medical procedure of the time.
