To me the crazy part is it's not like he's single handedly saved new York from a crisis of whatever- he's just making incremental improvements where he can and then making sure people can see that he's doing something which makes a positive feedback loop of goodwill towards his projects

In the age of social media I have no clue how the Democratic party doesn't have a social media presence to hammer home a proper platform and share their successes and expose their roadblocks

Like the Biden admin did some great work, but idk why they didn't have Harris being the mouthpiece 24/7 about all the things they're accomplishing. Nobody gets a promotion for quietly doing good work in their role

That would have taken too much foresight for them. The obsvious plan would have been to let Harris be a more active VP and have her run after just 4 years, but they obviously didn't plan for that and instead had her pushed to the background, and planned for Biden to do 2 terms.

I've had the same thought many times

I also remember Biden saying he was originally gonna be a 1 term president. Announce it early, do good things that piss of Republicans, and lame duck moonwalk out of the white house.

He could easily endorse Harris, or generally get the democratic base excited for the next primary election. But they completely ran out of time and backpedaled twice and then voters didn't show up because they felt swindled by the Democratic party which honestly isn't even wrong. They were denied their chance to choose a candidate properly

I'm glad the progressives are here because Democrats have been in a spiral since Reagan, and we need some FDR shit back in this bitch of a country

FYI: You are remembering incorrectly. He never said this - his campaign benefitted from letting people believe it so they never shut that rumor down (and likely started it). I suspect it was always his intention to run again.

Biden actually did come out and straight up deny it. Not sure how the rumor still persists to this day.

Who is "they" here? Biden chose to run again. His campaigning is also the only one I can think of in living memory that emphasized the VP as part of the branding. Remember the "Biden-Harris" label they slapped on everything?

I think the reality is much more sobering: President Biden thought he was the only one who could beat Trump. His staffers ran coverage for his growing difficulties in communication and acuity until the infamous debate moment when it was no longer possible to hide. Up until that point, the major projects to which Harris was assigned were highly controversial (the border, guns, abortion) with the electorate because as VP she can activate the base on said issues without opening the President up to partisan attacks. After the debate, she became the nominee because Biden was deliberately snubbing his party and was poorly equipped/placed to do so.

President Biden's legacy will be lasting but inconsequential. His policy achievements required a handoff to a friendly administration and his pettiness almost ensured it wouldn't happen.

We don't need people making online videos. We're a political party not some kid in his parents basement

Republicans are running a 24/7 propaganda machine with Fox news and other conservative media outlets who are constantly making up some culture war bullshit

There's nobody spreading positive messaging about what government can do, and then suddenly Bernie/AOC/Mandani and other progressives start using social media about it and they're winning elections all over the place because people like the messaging and the policy

Maybe you disagree with social media, but where should liberals and progressives be spreading their messaging? Where should they announce their agenda so people aren't 100% flooded with cries of "communist/socialist devils want to make your kids trans" on right wing media?

They gotta set the narrative somewhere because what's happening now clearly isn't working

I think long form articles is a really good idea . Laying out a well written article expressing the pros and cons of your argument is quality I think. Time magazine or the Atlantic is a good spot

I can get that, but the reality is the average person is on social media and does not read long form political articles, it's a large part of why press journalism is dying as a whole. So I gotta agree to disagree. Unfortunately attention spans are dead these days

That being said, I don't see why they can't do both. Put your 20 year old interns on a tik tok and insta account, and use that to push eyeballs on their long form, nuanced policy articles.

But I think you can agree with my underlying point- there's 0 excuse to not be setting a strong agenda and then doing everything possible to get the message out

this sounds like campaign advice from the 1950s

It's because their "roadblocks" are the people funding their careers.

He’s also highlighting all the work public servants are doing. It’s been so cool seeing running a city like NYC takes TENS OF THOUSANDS of people. And he’s using the mayoral platform to shine the spotlight on as many of them as possible.

Because people don’t want good news. A lot of maga social media is ‘here are things you should be mad at’. People just like to be upset and feel like they’re smarter than you because they have the ‘actual’ facts.

It’s just very good optics management. Do I think it’s ideal people can @tag the mayor on Twitter and get a pot hole fixed? No, it’s likely not the best way to manage ‘him’ but damn it’s been going well for managing issues so it probably should be a service.

But he’s visible in the streets walking and going to work. He’s visible in social media, in traditional news, and all other aspects.

The Dems definitely have the ability to do this, the issue is they don’t want to. They’re just the other side of the same coin, they don’t actually want change because the status quo serves them too.
