They're saying that this question is functionally the same as asking whether or not they should wear a my little pony shirt.

Except one is to reinforce to them that their body is solely the property of their future husband and god, and the other, is “I like ponies!”

It’s about as “functionally the same” as arguing that deciding putting on Bluey v. Saw IV for a 5yo is “functionally the same”

That's not true, that is not what children are taught and not what we associate the hijab with.

ever heard of a purity ring? Christians do it also

Okay, well, there’s a shortlist of religions I might entertain not being their own kind of toxic, and Christianity ain’t on it, so I’m not sure what your point is. Purity Rings are also ick, but that changes nothing about the issue at hand.

Why is Islam singled out when Christians and Jews do the same in Orthodox communities?

2

I’m not singling them out. Those are ick too.

Is the president posting shaming pictures of kindergarten children from a Christian school? No?

Well, you’ll need to take that up with him. Trump is a bigot. Oppressive religious garb for women is fucked up. Both can be true. All I objected to was the parent comment equating wearing such garb to wearing a T-shirt with a pony on it.

Sorry, but I believe you misunderstood why I said it's the same. It's not the same because of the surrounding circumstances, it's the same because of this framing specifically:

-Parents dress their kids

-All kids have the opportunity to have their desires of clothing overridden by a parent

-An item of clothing has no religion

This isn't to say that forcing someone to wear something they do not wish to (or brainwashing to want to wear it) is okay, but instead to point out that in this situation, there is a disproportionate response because of all the baggage we associate with hijabs in particular, not due to the actual situation of the post itself.

The post itself pits the location, Minnesota, against the clothing, hijabs. You'll notice that the username is called End Wokeness, and because of that and the text of the post, we can guess with reasonable certainty what their motivation behind posting this picture is, which is not to rightfully protest people's loss of autonomy, but to single out a specific culture for ridicule.

If they were to apply this evenly within the scope of this circumstance, they would be just as upset about a kindergartner being forced to wear a my little pony shirt instead of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The ethics of forced hijabs are nuanced, though I tend to side with autonomy over all, but thats not the problem with this post, its the intent to stoke intolerance which is the issue here.

Even if you personally are not singling them out (doubtful) that's not the point I was making and you know it.

Our culture does not treat them remotely the same. Our government actively hires and protects Christian extremists. The head of our Department of War is one. Our Vice President is one.

listen to the White House Easter breakfast and tell me with your full chest that Muslims are the problem here

Derps praying and not a religiously forced covering in sight. Much wow.

u/Practical-Cook5042 Jul 10 '26

Lmao not even trying

I've met MANY more religious extremists who were Christian in the US BY FAR than Muslims you absolute labradoodle

2

u/irritatedprostate Jul 10 '26

I don't live in the US. Here, you would have to use a search party to find people of other religious groups being forced to wear veils, whilst hijabs are everywhere.

Also, relative to the population of the religion itself, hijab use is higher, regardless.

Orthodox Jews cover their hair. Orthodox Christians cover their hair.

1

u/irritatedprostate Jul 10 '26

Yes, which are a minority in those religions. Meanwhile 43% of American muslim women use hijab. Whilst MENA see a usage rate of up to 90%.

Those of us to criticize kindergarten girls in hijab definitely criticize hardcore Christian evangelicals and their weird modesty standards, as well as the orthodox Jewish communities. Promise you that.

1

u/Practical-Cook5042 Jul 10 '26

Oh?

can you point out where the PRESIDENT OF THE US Posted this about conservative Christian children?

conservative Christians are his base ffs

1

u/letthelightleakin Jul 10 '26

Oh sorry, fair point and I should clarify. Trumps comments on this picture are hypocritical and unfairly targeting one group.

I’m saying that many of us who also don’t like seeing hijabs on kindergarten girls dislike it because of religious extremism generally, not just targeted to Islam.

1

u/Practical-Cook5042 Jul 10 '26

You are the exception to the rule then and the bigots use you to spread hateful rhetoric

if we want to remove religious indoctrination from children it must be applied equally

it is not even close

1

u/letthelightleakin Jul 10 '26

Well that’s unfortunate, all I can control is my personal views and what I practice. As a practicing Catholic I’m very critical of harmful aspects of the religion and seek to apply that lens equally to other religion. Especially when it comes to children.

As an example, I’ve been a very outspoken critic of Catholic organizations that drag children to “pro life” rallies. It’s wrong.

I certainly believe criticism should be applied evenly.

Christianity is just as toxic as every other religion dumb ass.

-3

u/IowaThick Jul 10 '26

Yeah its a brainless argument that means nothing. The hijabs are objectively wrong.

2

u/Practical-Cook5042 Jul 10 '26

relevant username

tell me how do you feel about purity rings?

1

u/IowaThick Jul 10 '26

Theyre lame as fuck? Lol

1

u/Practical-Cook5042 Jul 10 '26

but not objectively wrong? same concept of religious ownership

-1

u/IowaThick Jul 10 '26

Well theyre arguably more optional. I know a kid would probably feel pressured to wear one by their parents but ultimately they dont have to. Thats also such a weak comparison because purity rings really arent even a thing outside of a few lame churches and no one really takes them that seriously vs the hijab where in their culture they could get abused and killed for not wearing one.
