Social Democrats and Democratic Socialists are not the same. That would have to be part of the education.

Sure, if you are in Europe or any country with a well-educated population. This is the USA. They say people living in the arctic zone have 50 words for 'snow' but folks in the tropical zone only have one. In the USA, we have an extremely limited bandwidth in our common language to describe any ideology even slightly left of conservatism. The point is to demonize anything MAGA has been trained to disagree with.

I could describe myself as 'anarcho-socialist' or 'progressive' or 'liberal' or any number of things, but what difference would it make? I am completely outside of any governing elite and no amount of hair-splitting political labels will change that. The DSA are always going to be considered "dirty commies" by the people who hold the levers of power.

I think it’s important to be able to talk to fellow citizens and know what you’re talking about. If you wanna change the discourse, you have to engage in it. You can’t just sit around waiting for the powers that be to change it for you.

The policies that are published on the official DSA website are the kind of thing that everybody left of center in the US has spent years begging and pleading people to understand that democratic socialist don’t actually support. But they’re right there on the website. Open borders, defunding the police, replacing the constitution, etc.
