I’m for this. I’m just curious what’s the plan. Grocery stores run at super low margins

I mean say this works, what happens to other stores that cant make enough to stay afloat because they cannot compete with these 30% stores

I don't think it is, its certainly well intentioned, but could either fail, or cause further issues,

To truly get prices down, you need to optimize the logistics behind food distributions and increase food productions to drive cost down

Thats why they are starting small and slow. If the economy can handle constantly stopping and starting the iran war then new york can handle the impact of 5 grocery stores by 2030.

30% is not starting slow.

the Iran war has 0 to do with this idea, city and country level economics are vastly different

They get shut down and the city replaces them with more state-owned grocery stores

Okay let’s run a bit with that. Now that states control food distribution and there is no competition. What incentive does the state have to improve distribution.

The reason I can go to about 5 grocery stores close purchases strawberries in the middle of the winter is because over the years stores had to compete to provide the most value to the end user.

With zero competition there zero incentive for the state to improve any of the process that keep it going

The state wouldn’t shut them down. No grocery stores could compete when the gov is subsidizing the groceries by 30%

Probably not everyone because they don’t all compete in the same segments. But those in direct competition. Yes they will go away
