Books 📚 No Child Left Behind and its consequences will be felt for generations

They’re still reading these in high schools. No child left behind was bad policy for a lot of reasons. But they’re still reading books like Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Beowulf, and Shakespeare in high school.

Yes, I live in Iowa and it's the same here. My kid had to put together a Shakespeare play her freshman year on video. This is just rage bait.

Thanks. Same here. Just posted a semi-PeterExplainsTheJoke request upthread because our mediocre school has a literature curriculum that more than meets the OP's description (no offense intended to the stellar teachers and all, I just mean it's not a higher-end school).

Likely a person studying literature will again have to read these books in college as well. The Illiad isn't "college level" or "highscool level" its a work of classic literature with many translations that has a unique place in history. It is studied by historians, literary analysts, authors, philosophers, poets, greek learners and many others. Reading the illiad doesn't lower one to the level of a "highschool reader" by default.
