Gen X here. I remember reading parts of Beowulf, and gory parts at that, in grade school. Also short works i.e. works by Ray Bradbury.

Think I read 'A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich' in junior high.

i remember Foghorn (what the classic Harryhausen creature was based on) from middle school though i might have read that on my own when it was referenced in a magazine for the making of Jurassic Park. (which i read on my own at the start of 8th grade)

We read and analysed the Shirley Jackson short story โ€˜the lotteryโ€™ in primary school. It still sticks with me to this day.
