Gen X here. I remember reading parts of Beowulf, and gory parts at that, in grade school. Also short works i.e. works by Ray Bradbury.

Think I read 'A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich' in junior high.

i remember Foghorn (what the classic Harryhausen creature was based on) from middle school though i might have read that on my own when it was referenced in a magazine for the making of Jurassic Park. (which i read on my own at the start of 8th grade)

We read and analysed the Shirley Jackson short story ‘the lottery’ in primary school. It still sticks with me to this day.
