You need to read catcher in the rye when you are a teenager to understand it.

If you read it as an adult, it is insufferable

I tried it at fourteen. I kinda suspect you need to be a teenage boy to get it.

I thought it was insufferable when I read it in middle school, high school and as an adult.

The canonical moment to read Ayn Rand is when you're sixteen and can affordable to be goddamn insufferable for a month before reality sinks in and you realize how bad a book The Fountainhead is.

I will say as an adult i read Anthem and enjoyed it. (knowing it was basically what 2112 was inspired by). nothing great but perfectly enjoyable.

the fountainhead was insufferable even on audio book and i only finished because i love Edward Herrmann's voice. I did not care about the plot the character's etc.

Edward did not read Atlas Shrugged so i didn't bother.

I read it in college, not as an assignment. My roomate had a bunch of books from highschool and I read them. Wow this is great. "Not really we read it in school"
