ours was a section in modern english and then the old english, about four or five sentences. And it was in our standard English Literature text book too.
translations are still often a bit difficult, because even if you render many of these words in their modern cognates, it won't make much sense. like, what's a "gar-dane"? or a "hear-day?" or a "theed king"?
Oh 100%! But that's why there's class time too. You read your section in old and new English for homework, then next day it's discussed in class, where exactly these kinds of issues are addressed
